What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“2 years after getting Greenlit, thanks to the intensive full-time work of our team, Gloria Victis finally moved to Steam Early Access. We have waited with launch until now to make sure the game will be polished enough to meet your expectations. However, we know that we can achieve a lot more together, so we encourage the players to discuss the game and its core features, as well as the recent progress and future development plans.

Early Access gives us an invaluable chance to increase the development pace and make sure that the final game will be polished as much as possible. Thank you very much for your priceless support and giving us a chance to bring our dream to life!

DISCLAIMER

Please remember that the game is currently in alpha stage and you may experience some issues or some of the features may not be implemented yet. We recommend supporting us only if you want to help us develop the game!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Thanks to the Steam release we will hopefully be able to expand the development team and release the complete game as soon as possible.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While in Early Access you receive a solid foundation of what Gloria Victis is and will be, some of the awesome features (in big part designed in co-operation with our Community!) are still being under development and will be implemented in future updates. Our plans for future development include:

– Replacing the character’s model and hiring the motion capture studio to rework animations, particular for combat [DONE]
– Implementation of the playable female characters [DONE]
– Continuous increasing of the servers capability, until there is only a single server per supported region of the world (since then you can freely switch between current servers) [DONE]
– Implementation of siege engines
– Implementations of sailing and naval combat
– Implementation of mounts and mounted combat
– Implementation of housing system
– Implementation of dynamic events dynamically changing the world according to the players’ actions [DONE]
– Implementation of new playable factions [DONE]
– Developing the available world [DONE]
– Numerous minor features, including fishing, gambling and emotes [PARTIALLY DONE]”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early Access of Gloria Victis includes most of the core features planned for the final release. Some of them are still being discussed with our Community, improved or developed.

Non-Target Combat – Engage in action-based, non-target combat where your skills and tactics matter! Prove your skills and earn fame as an undefeatable duelist, eagle-eyed archer or respected commander inspiring your allies in battle! With the income from Early Access we are going to greatly improve the animations and overall combat experience, as well as to implement mounts and siege engines.
Open PVP – Fight to the death in tournaments, towns and castles sieges and epic wars where entire armies collide!
Territory Control – Conquer the lands, siege non-instantiated towns and castles and develop fortifications to earn an advantage in the everlasting conflict of the realms! In future the player guilds will be able to control and develop towns and castles with surrounding keeps, farms and mines, to forge alliances and declare wars to the other guilds.
Innovative Partial Loot System – Defeated your enemy? Take your reward, selecting which specific items you would like to loot – but hurry, the clock is ticking!
Fame and Disgrace – Be a part of a living feudal society, establish your reputation and move up the feudal hierarchy, leading your allies to victory under your guild’s banner – or run and hide as an outlaw! In the final version you will even get a chance to become the ruler of your nation or the public enemy.
Complex Crafting System – Look for the best resources and materials, use crafting workstations and co-operate with others to increase your efficiency and achieve mastery in one of 8 different realistic crafts. The economy is in your hands – swords don’t drop from wolves but are forged by the blacksmiths!
Class-less Progression – Become who you want to be, shaping your character without artificial classes and fully customizing your equipment using hundreds of available items! Thanks to income from Early Access we will be able to add playable female characters!
Open Living World – Seamless, breathtaking, unpleasant, dynamically reacting to your actions – the diversified and overwhelming world of Gloria Victis awaits you!
Low-fantasy Setting – Explore the lands based upon medieval Europe and Middle-East, discover ancient secrets, seek for forgotten treasures and face creatures designed after medieval tales!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, since the price is calculated to cover the costs of the constant development of Gloria Victis, upkeep the servers and supporting the game after release. If a free-to-play option ever becomes viable and necessary for us -- which will be something that may only happen long after the official release -- we will make sure that the players who bought the game for the original price will receive much more than what they paid for.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are continuously looking for insightful feedback and brilliant ideas from our Community, often discussing them and applying the best ones to the game. We also invite the most active players to check the latest features and changes during internal tests before they are released in the official updates.”

Combat Dynamics Update! (Update v.0.8.7.2 – Steam Patch 149)

Hello warriors!

New update is live, and this time we have something big – the combat update! Addressing your feedback, we focused on increasing the combat dynamics and expanding the significance of the player’s skill. More details below – we hope that you’ll like these changes as much as we do!

There are also numerous gameplay improvements, including better streamlined-experience in the Ismirean starting questline and many bugfixes.

See you in battle!

Changelog v.0.8.7.2

Combat Dynamics Update:

This update includes numerous changes done to the combat dynamics, in order to enhance the experience and skill factor. We’ve focused on addressing the following problems:

– For a significant part of our Community, the combat wasn’t dynamic enough yet
– Despite that dynamics issue, there was not enough reaction time for blocking attacks in the attack’s aim/hold state
– In effect, the reaction time issue was going even further as it eventually led to promoting side-attacks which would reduce the enemy’s reaction time during the attack’s release
– The overall combat needed many anti-spam systems, however, they weren’t effective enough

We took our time to identify reasons for these problems and rethink the combat assumptions. We've come with the following solutions:

– Increased the attacks release speed, mostly for 1-handed weapons – it might take some time to older players to get used to it but this change allows better feeling the successful attacks and aiming, as well as increasing the combat dynamics
– The long axes’ attacks release speed wasn’t increased significantly but their powerbar’s loading times are shorter now, matching those of longswords
– Slightly increased the knives’ attacks holding time without changing the overall attack’s length
– Reduced the time it takes to return to the base stance after performing an attack, so from now on, a player will have more opportunities to successfully hit enemies when being outnumbered, i.e. in the 2v1 scenario
– Increased the reaction time for quick attacks, while for strong attacks (full powerbar) it remained unchanged

In total, these changes give higher combat dynamics, though at the same time the attacked player has more time to perform a successful block, which is crucial for an MMORPG game with region-based servers and non-target combat where the player’s skill matter. We hope you’ll like these changes as much as we do!

Gameplay:

– Disabled using bandages while swimming
– From now on, bleeding effect is applied only with strong attacks
– Improved the forest stage of Ismirean starting questline – hunting and fighting poachers – enhancing the location layout and visuals, as well as improving the NPC enemies placement, in order to provide a better experience for new players
– From now on, the second daily restart is being performed right before the server’s local primetime
– From now on, the Dukla’s 1st daily PVP tournament starts 2 hours earlier in order to cover the Oceania region’s primetime
– Removed the Halloween decorations

Fixes:

– Fixed an issue causing that some players couldn’t build Bloomery – instead, a tent was being placed
– Fixed an issue allowing to pass through the closed palisade gate
– Fixed an issue allowing to attack party members in the arena
– Fixed numerous cases of wrong textures applied on the environment models – there might still be some edge case issues remaining, so we’ll be thankful for reporting them using the in-game tool!
– Fixed displaying the nation color on the Storm Guard’s Salad feather
– Fixed the Praetorian’s Closed Greaves clipping issue
– Fixed an issue causing that the teleport to arena could be triggered by re-doing and finishing the previously interrupted item equipping progress bar
– Fixed several issues allowing to escape the ranked duels’ arena by moving to the capital city and main arena

Polish Independence 100th anniversary, new quests tons of fixes! (Update v.0.8.7.1 – Steam Patch 148)

Hello warriors!

November 11th, 1918, after 123 years, Poland regained the independence. This date is written deep in our hearts, and we’d love to celebrate the upcoming 100th anniversary of this unforgettable event!

For this occasion, we’ve just added a special skin for the Champion’s Heavy Spaulders, which refers to the brightest moments of the Polish military. You can purchase the Wings of Glory in the Supporter’s Shop, but also – up to November 12th – obtain this unique skin by completing the recently added Sea Wraiths world event!

And there’s a lot of other changes in this update! First of all, we just added 6 new questlines – 2 available for each faction – which can be started right after completing the first quest chain. There are also further server-side optimization changes, numerous improvements to the recently introduced player-built furnaces and many fixes.

Also, don’t miss the upcoming PVP event! It will start at 10:00 PM GMT (Saturday, November 10). Join us in the arena on the [Europe] Eaglewood server and fight for fame in 5v5 battles. The winners will be immortalized on the in-game monuments and every participant will be rewarded – to arms!

Let’s celebrate with us, and see you in battle!

Changelog v.0.8.7.1

Gameplay:

– Added new skin for the Champion’s Heavy Spaulders: Wings of Glory, due to the celebration of the upcoming 100th anniversary of regaining the Polish independence
– Added Wings of Glory skin to the rewards pool in the Sea Wraiths world event – it’s being assigned directly to the account of each player from a team which completed the event’s last stage; Wings of Glory will be obtainable from this event only up to November 12th!
– Added 2 new questlines per each nation, which can be started at the nearest flags from capital cities (O’Nar’s Farm, Dunfen Farm, L’Obart’s Farm, Mereley Farm, Basilea Farm, Baalhammon Farm) – the new quests are available after finishing the starting questline
– Further server-side performance improvements
– From now on, the enemy’s attack indicator disappears right after receiving the attack’s last damage (i.e. if it was a cleave attack, the indicator will disappear after the last target received damage) – until now, it was still displayed until the enemy’s animation type switched, which could be misleading in combat
– From now on, fire in the furnaces remains even if the temperature reaches the lowest level until there’s enough fuel inside
– Reduced the furnaces temperature level lowering speed to 25%
– Reduced the amount of Calcite Crystal required in the Dziwer Bar from 20 to 10
– Reduced the number of Iron Scraps required to use it as an alternative material to Limonite
– Added missing Steel Scraps as an alternative material to Pyrite in the Steel Bar recipe
– Added possibility to re-bind the “My constructions” window to another key (default: J)
– From now on, player’s character kneels down right after the player accepts the ranked arena duel
– From now on, the player’s character automatically stands up from the kneeling stance after canceling the ranked arena duel by the opponent and is signed to the queue again
– Increased the max camera zoom-out range
– Improved the Midlandic starting questline: the stolen goods stage
– Removed the Halloween rewards from world events rewards and NPCs loot tables
– Moved the Logistician in Mereley towards the Northern gate, much closer to the spawn point
– Improved the Moonshines buff description

Fixes:

– Fixed respawning in the player-spawned tents
– Fixed an issue causing that the item disassembling critical success message didn’t always describe the end effect – from now on, if a recipe for disassembled item exists and a player’s character doesn’t know it yet, the message will inform about learning the recipe
– Fixed an issue causing that the crafting critical success increased only the quality-dependent experience modifier instead of the overall experience gained while crafting
– Fixed an issue allowing to join the ranked arena duel while swimming
– Fixed an issue causing that the amount of fuel in a furnace slot was being reduced each time it was moved to another slot
– Fixed an issue causing that the furnaces’ fuel slots were remaining highlighted after moving the fuel back to inventory
– Fixed the Veles Padded Gauntlets recipe – due to a bug, using it ended in learning another recipe
– Fixed the Bandit’s Hammer recipe – due to a bug, using it ended in learning another recipe
– Fixed closing the “My constructions” window with the X button
– Fixed placement and rotation issues of the fallen trees in the Midlandic starting area
– Fixed an issue causing that players were receiving empty buckets in specific cases, i.e. when stopping the fire on fortifications, while the bucket is an unused item
