What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Origin

I once worked on a game called "Birds and Beasts Fantasy."

Because "Birds and Beasts Fantasy" was so large, I spent a lot of time writing the script and drawing the artwork. I also had to adjust numerous code issues related to the game's size. These tedious tasks left me physically and mentally exhausted. I initially estimated that the game might take two years. After nearly a year and a half, the project was still far from complete. I also felt anxious about the game's quality. Every time I added a feature, I felt like I needed to add more to improve the overall quality. There were also countless features that needed to be adjusted, including combat numerical balance and combat feel. These things made me feel physically and mentally exhausted.

I had been thinking about making a smaller game after "Birds and Beasts Fantasy." Like "The Binding of Isaac," could be completed in six months.

Until one Friday, I couldn't bear the frustration and anxiety that "Birds and Beasts Fantasy" brought me. Whatever I wanted to do, I had to do it now. There was no afterlife. I immediately started working on a new, smaller game.

I named this game "Fakeway." It's more of a self-talk. Lowering my expectations and setting my goals might make it easier to achieve.

With this game, I wanted to return to where my gaming dreams began. It was Terraria. Ten years ago, I was working as a Java web engineer at a company. I was assigned to work on a web project at another city. My colleagues were playing Terraria. The pixel art style instantly captivated me, and I played it day and night. This game inspired me to switch careers and become a game designer.

To become a game designer, I read programming books recommended on Stack Overflow. I put these skills into my projects. Six years were spent learning programming. Then I spent another two years learning painting and another two learning music composition. I also spent time learning scriptwriting.

Let me, a half-baked game designer, return to where my dreams began and embark on a new adventure in life.”
