What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This game is a hobby project by a university student. I am marking this as early access because art is a limiting factor, but have high ambitions for this game. Ideally, we will have a full character creator instead of a preset model. I also want to have 5 game modes with at least 5 maps for each, and around 50 different weapons before considering the game ready to leave early access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It really depends on funding, and how many artists we can get working full time. Art, from 3D models, textures, props, and sounds have always been the limiting factor and depending on how fast we can get those bottlenecks resolved, I would say around 1-2 more years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to have the same design pillars, but will be focused on providing more ways to make your character unique from adding a character creator, an additional female model, more weapons and more modes and maps. The core gameplay loop will remain the same, just with more content, art assets, and sounds.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully custom networking code that supports up to 24 players, 1 map, 1 game mode, a fully custom and feature rich level editor for community creativity, 15 weapons, fully custom physics for a fast paced Quake/TF2 style feel, and zero cosmetics.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Probably not. I was thinking of going for a free to play game with paid cosmetics to customize your loadouts. All functionally unique items will be free (no pay-to-win). The base price of the game may also depend on if we get a publisher or stay fully indie. The monetization strategy may also change depending on player count, server costs, and many other factors. Rest assured that you will never be able to spend real money to give yourself an in-game advantage or unlock things faster.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is the lifeblood of this game, I rely on them for testing and hopefully art in the future. They can also create maps for the game using our custom Map Editor! Players can use the Steam Workshop to submit maps that they create using the TeamSpec Map Editor, a tool available as a separate download with this game. Join the community discord server to help the development, especially if you are an artist!”

About This Game

TeamSpec is the class-based shooter where you can make your own class! Change your stats by allocating points into three categories: Power, Pick, and Support. Most weapons require a certain amount of points to be allocated into one or more of these roles, so you can mix and match to create a loadout, and customize the look of your character to something that feels like you!
