What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“And why not? We have basically made the game we planned, but we will definitely do far more work to improve Despot’s Game. So if you came to this section to decide whether to buy this game now or wait for version 1.0 — buy it now. Yes, we are planning to experiment with game modes, add monsters and mutators and collect player feedback. But we are not trying to sell an unfinished game because our money has run out. The game is entering Early Access because we are continuing to work on it with the full studio lineup and we will obviously do a lot more before version 1.0 is released!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“No more than a year, but not 1-2 months either.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“It's hard to say. There will definitely be more content — more units, quests and mutators. The balance will definitely undergo significant changes, as we will shake it up every season so that players don’t get bored in the King of the Hill multiplayer mode. Here is a list of tasks from our To Do list, any of which might move to the Done list or be postponed and put on the Backlog list forever:
1. A secret new game mode with a focus on multiplayer
2. Dungeon raid statistics
3. Two brutal bosses with dialogues on levels 4 and 8
4. An “endless” PvE mode
5. Full gamepad support
6. Consumable items which aren’t worn by characters, but used only once to prove a temporary effect of some kind
7. Secret rooms
8. The ability to battle a friend in King of the Hill (without affecting your ranking)
9. New game modifiers (similar to Mutagens and Hunger Games)
10. More items per class. Multi-class items that give a character two classes at the same time
11. Player customization — the players can customize their own half of the King of the Hill field, and their Leaderboard medals
12. More monsters!
13. More mutations!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“This is the game that we planned to make. All of the mechanics are available and nothing is blocked off. However, we will only understand what Despot’s Game should be like in version 1.0 after getting player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price will increase after the Early Access period, but we haven't decided by how much yet.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read every review and talk to the players on Discord. We are not sure which direction to concentrate most of our efforts on — should we add other cool bosses? Or add more variation to the normal monsters? Maybe there are enough enemies and it’s more important to give the player 5 times more abilities? Or is everything great and it’s better to experiment with game modes? Our plans for version 1.0 completely depend on the reaction of the players. But remember, d’Spot will always have the last word!”

About This Game

Prepare to die, humans!

A group of people wake up in a strange post-apocalyptic labyrinth — naked, with no memories and with a bunch of weapons. Is this a joke, a crazy experiment, or... a game? You'll find out soon enough, just try not to die first!

Get your pretzels ready

Your puny squad is capable of much more. Choose your loot and transform the squishy humans into wizards, cultists, ninjas and dozens of other heroes, including the mythical stale pretzel throwers. With perks and class combos, there are thousands of ways to build your army. The man-eating cabbage will appreciate the variety in its diet!

Crush your rivals

If you can survive the labyrinth, you'll meet THE UNSTOPPABLE END-GAME BUILDS OF OTHER PLAYERS! You'll beat each other to death and only one will be spared by d'Spot. No offense, but in his own game he writes the rules!

Indirect combat

Prepare your warriors and let them fight it out on their own! Indirect combat allows you to focus heavily on tactical considerations rather than reflexes. Strengthen your front line with fridge-movers, aim your food-throwers and look after your Forbidden Summoners!

Endless exploration

The dungeons are generated from scratch every time, and there is no chance puny humans will ever find the way out! And even if they strike lucky — don't worry, there are endless ways to die in Despot's Game!
