What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“2 years after getting Greenlit, thanks to the intensive full-time work of our team, Gloria Victis finally moved to Steam Early Access. We have waited with launch until now to make sure the game will be polished enough to meet your expectations. However, we know that we can achieve a lot more together, so we encourage the players to discuss the game and its core features, as well as the recent progress and future development plans.

Early Access gives us an invaluable chance to increase the development pace and make sure that the final game will be polished as much as possible. Thank you very much for your priceless support and giving us a chance to bring our dream to life!

DISCLAIMER

Please remember that the game is currently in alpha stage and you may experience some issues or some of the features may not be implemented yet. We recommend supporting us only if you want to help us develop the game!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Thanks to the Steam release we will hopefully be able to expand the development team and release the complete game by the end of 2017.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While in Early Access you receive a solid foundation of what Gloria Victis is and will be, some of the awesome features (in big part designed in co-operation with our Community!) are still being under development and will be implemented in future updates. Our plans for future development include:

– Replacing the character’s model and hiring the motion capture studio to rework animations, particular for combat
– Implementation of the playable female characters
– Continuous increasing of the servers capability, until there is only a single server per supported region of the world (since then you can freely switch between current servers)
– Implementation of siege engines
– Implementations of sailing and naval combat
– Implementation of mounts and mounted combat
– Implementation of housing system
– Implementation of dynamic events dynamically changing the world according to the players’ actions
– Implementation of new playable factions
– Developing the available world – right now you have access to a large archipelago but the lands will be expanded with entire mainland
– Numerous minor features, including fishing, gambling and emotes”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early Access of Gloria Victis includes most of the core features planned for the final release. Some of them are still being discussed with our Community, improved or developed.

Non-Target Combat – Engage in action-based, non-target combat where your skills and tactics matter! Prove your skills and earn fame as an undefeatable duelist, eagle-eyed archer or respected commander inspiring your allies in battle! With the income from Early Access we are going to greatly improve the animations and overall combat experience, as well as to implement mounts and siege engines.
Open PVP – Fight to the death in tournaments, towns and castles sieges and epic wars where entire armies collide!
Territory Control – Conquer the lands, siege non-instantiated towns and castles and develop fortifications to earn an advantage in the everlasting conflict of the realms! In future the player guilds will be able to control and develop towns and castles with surrounding keeps, farms and mines, to forge alliances and declare wars to the other guilds.
Innovative Partial Loot System – Defeated your enemy? Take your reward, selecting which specific items you would like to loot – but hurry, the clock is ticking!
Fame and Disgrace – Be a part of a living feudal society, establish your reputation and move up the feudal hierarchy, leading your allies to victory under your guild’s banner – or run and hide as an outlaw! In the final version you will even get a chance to become the ruler of your nation or the public enemy.
Complex Crafting System – Look for the best resources and materials, use crafting workstations and co-operate with others to increase your efficiency and achieve mastery in one of 8 different realistic crafts. The economy is in your hands – swords don’t drop from wolves but are forged by the blacksmiths!
Class-less Progression – Become who you want to be, shaping your character without artificial classes and fully customizing your equipment using hundreds of available items! Thanks to income from Early Access we will be able to add playable female characters!
Open Living World – Seamless, breathtaking, unpleasant, dynamically reacting to your actions – the diversified and overwhelming world of Gloria Victis awaits you! Right now you have access to a large archipelago but the lands will be expanded with an entire mainland!
Low-fantasy Setting – Explore the lands based upon medieval Europe and Middle-East, discover ancient secrets, seek for forgotten treasures and face creatures designed after medieval tales!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The current price is calculated to cover the costs of the constant development of Gloria Victis, upkeep the servers and supporting the game after release. However the final release will come with a free, content-limited trial with the possibility to eventually unlock the content through gameplay, owners of the Early Access will be granted full access to the entire content delivered in the final version, as well as numerous precious reward for purchasing the game during development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are continuously looking for insightful feedback and brilliant ideas from our Community, often discussing them and applying the best ones to the game. We also invite the most active players to check the latest features and changes during internal tests before they are released in the official updates.”

Dev Journal - 50 updates deployed in less than a year!

9 months ago Gloria Victis came to Steam Early Access. Over these 9 months we were able to deploy 50 regular updates and likely 3 times more smaller fixes! It wasn’t easy to maintain such high momentum all the time, especially being a small independent studio, but the continuous support from our awesome Community keeps giving us the power boost we need. Let’s take a look at the progress done over the last 9 months of Gloria Victis’ development.

First of all, we have applied new character models! Not only do they now have 10 times more details than before, they also came with greatly expanded options of character customization, including tattoos and face painting, face details and much more! We have also reworked the entire character creation interface and added an optional ability to shape the background of the player’s character.

Besides looking much better, player characters also have many more places to visit, as over the last nine months we have been filling the breathtakingly open world of Gloria Victis with numerous new locations. They vary a lot – from bandit camps set in the wilderness and single watchtowers built atop of rocky hills, to charmful villages and guarded outposts, to entire settlements, such as greatly improved areas for new players and a castle controlled by robber knights. There are also dozens of new events, in which players can partake to affect the surrounding world and earn fame, as well as world events where players group in warbands to compete with the other nation, either for glory or for the spoils of war.

Speaking of PVP and locations, we have made huge improvements to territory control. There are new objects to be built and upgraded as well, including farms, lumberyards, crafting workstations and guardhouses, each giving either military or economic benefits to the nation controlling the given location. Moreover, Steam Update #50 has introduced an impressive towering castle keep which has been applied to 6 settlements. With strong stone walls, an enforced door, dozens of archer spots and functional machicolations allowing to melt enemies with boiling oil; it is a fortress itself, a castle keep each lord would be proud of - and now you can have one!

We have also greatly changed the design of existing towns and castles to increase their defense values – now even a greatly outnumbered group of defenders can hold the castle if they outmatch enemies with their own skill and ability to cooperate. We have also introduced new locations, which can be fought over by nations. Some of them may be captured and upgraded to gain benefits, while some have special purposes, like the Last Stand forts – even in the face of defeat, the dominated nation still has a ground to be hold and glory to earn. Gloria Victis!

Another important change was the introduction of the burning mechanics. Do you not feel strong enough to assault the enemy fort? Take a torch and distract them by setting their wooden walls on fire! What could make a warrior’s morning better than seeing an enemy tower set ablaze, with dense smoke covering the rising sun?

Tons of other changes have been made over last 9 months as well, like introduction of Glory system which allows players to compete in rank tables to earn fame and precious rewards, almost complete database migration – just migrating players inventories required us to move 4 million item stacks! – and many more. In short, these 9 months since Steam launch were a crazy ride for us – we have finally established an office after years of working remotely, expanded the development team and launched servers in likely every region of the world: Europe, North and South America, SEA and Australia and Oceania!

And there is no time to slow down – we are currently in the phase of polishing the long-awaited combat update! We are excited to finally see new motion capture animations in-game, as they are made by Jakub Kisiel, known for his amazing work in games like Gears of War and the Witcher 3, where he was animating Geralt himself! Moreover, animations are based on authentic medieval techniques, and the update itself will come with a greatly improved controller and synchronization. Another huge change to come soon will be the map expansion, which will add about 50% to the available landmass!

A lot is yet to be done but the progress we have made since Steam Early Access launch, and the awesome support we receive day by day from our Community, makes us proud of working on Gloria Victis.

See you in battle!

Update v.0.6.8.8 – Steam Patch 51

Hello!

New update has just been applied! It includes a lot of minor tweaks and fixes aimed to improve gameplay and user experience.

Enjoy and see you in battle!

Changelog v.0.6.8.8

Gameplay:

– Added NPC guards inside recently introduced castle keeps – their strength and amount depends on distance to main town of nation which controls a settlement
– Increased respawn time of doors in the castle keeps
– Restored player spawnpoints inside the castle keeps and adjusted terrain under them
– Increased damage dealt by tournament guards by 20%
– Modified terrain East of Lord’s Wrath Fort to prevent players from walking it around
– Increased maximum upgrade level of Lord’s Wrath Fort to level 6
– Replaced a rope bridge leading to Lord’s Wrath Abbey with a stone bridge
– Increased levels of Outlumbereds and level of event taking place in their encampment
– Added War bardiche recipe to the loot table
– Replaced unused crafting materials stored in players inventory and depots with proper ones – for example, semi-hard and soft steel ingots have been replaced with steel bars so you will be able to use them in crafting

Fixes:

– Fixed an issue causing client- and server-side desynchronization of arrows
– Fixed an issue causing that safezone status remaining on player in edge cases after death
– Fixed client side item duplication, which occurred when dragging part of stack from depot to inventory; the source item quantity was not updating resulting in increase of total amount of stack
– Fixed client side errors while dragging item icon over depot
– Fixed improper update in database of tab size in inventory and depot while drag & dropping bags from one tab to another – this could in some cases break loading character and hang on loading screen at 90%
– Fixed a bug in Trade window while trading stackable items – It used to show whole stack size instead of traded amount of items
– Fixed a bug when (sometimes) selling item to merchant or trading it with another player wasn’t register on the client and item was not removed properly from inventory – such item would block the slot and it wasn’t possible to remove it
