Game Update 182328 to 182494 - 06/26/2016

182328 - 06/26/2016

Update Information:

Howdy Don’t Starvers, how are you all? Well fed I hope! Couple of fun changes added in this time. The “/roll” command will give you a random dice roll, good for filling your time on those cold nights with friends around the fire playing games of chance, and “/emote” will expand your range of expressions to whatever you can think of and hasn’t been animated yet. We decided to remove the Winter and Summer traps from Don’t Starve Together’s Worldgen. We miss them and will be looking to fill their void in the future, but with something a little more tailored to suit multiplayer. Inactive Bernies were causing some confusion, so he now remains fully functional when transferred to other Players, like many of the other character items.

Stay dry, stay sane, and stay fed. See you again soon.

  • Removed Summer and Winter Traps from Worldgen.
  • Bernie will now activate for any Player who goes insane, and will no longer decay on the ground unless it is completely broken.
  • Added sound FX for Salt Lick.
  • Added new ‘/roll’ and ‘/emote’ user commands.
  • Pasting text into DST is now supported on all platforms (Windows, Linux, and OSX).

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed crash sometimes when a Player disconnects while opening a gift.
  • Fixed UI compatibility issues with mods that add save slots.
  • Beardlings and Beardlords will now appear properly for Players whose sanity drops below 40 percent (30 percent for Maxwell).
  • Picking thorny Roses no longer triggers battle music.

HOTFIX 182494 - 06/24/2016
  • Fixed bug where a Dwarf Star may never fade out in some rare cases.
  • Fixed a crash in Mods screen.
  • “/roll” command now accepts an optional [max] parameter.
  • “c_announce” can now be used to send system messages to the chat area by specifying “system” as the category: e.g. c_announce(“This is a test!”, nil, “system”)

As always if you run across a bug, please hit up our bug tracker here:

Just a disclaimer before I get started: I have yet to play this game with random people who are not my real-life friends. As such, I will not be discussing the experience of playing with randoms because I haven't had such an experience.

That being said, this game is great! The music, art style, and gameplay are all fantastic. My friends and I have put many hours into this game together.

However, as with most survival games, there isn't really a tutorial. I guess the basic thinking for Don't Starve Together was that it would be popular with players of the original Don't Starve. If you're like me, you played Don't Starve Together BEFORE Don't Starve. As such, I had a lot to learn. Which was okay, because I had two or three friends that could teach it all to me. The wiki is also a great help so be sure to study it from time to time.

If you're anything like my friends and I, you will start out having the hardest time surviving the first season. After a while you'll start to improve and eventually, like my friends an I, you'll be able to survive two in-game years, and then you'll start a new world, not because you died and lost the last one, but because you were getting sick of the same world after having played on it for so long!

My only gripe with this game is a small one: the hitboxes seem a little wonky. You can be far out of biting range of a Hound and it'll still manage to hurt you somehow. Again, small gripe. It has yet to be death of me, and it certainly won't be the death of my enjoyment of the game.

I really recommend this game if you have some friends to play with in a private server.

Tip: Don't set fire to nearby trees to get charcoal, go someplace far from your home base. Trust me...

This version of Don't Starve is the definitive one.

-You can play with your friends on modded servers.
-The game is cheap.
-All the future DLCs will be included.
-There is a cosmetic steam inventory thing but you can't buy keys or anything, you just drop cosmetic items by playing (they go from hats to the way items in the game looks).
-I got 2 keys of Don't Starve Together for the Alpha just because I had the original game in my library (and the keys are still working for the final version).
-There's both coop and PVP.
-You can customize your experience by changing the way the world is before creating it and you can install mods on both the client and the server side.
-You can also play alone on a single player world (just like in the original game but with all the elements from Don't Starve Together like having every characters from the beggining).
-The servers are working realy well and without optical fiber I could still play with my friends on my server without any problems
-The game is very community friendly with a lot of help in order to create your own playing experience.
-The art style is still great.
-There are a lot of options to play with your friends like being able to give them items without having to drop them, seeing them on the map and help them while you are dead as a phantom before they get able to make an item to resurect you.
-The PVP is great and it can be realy fun to have dedicated servers with a lot of people on it and have bases that attacks each other (like in Rust for example).

-No adventure mode (from what I've seen).
-No more progression exept for collecting cosmetics (you already have every characters from the get go).
-Loadings are a little long.
-I had some little problems but I think they are on my side (like not being able to attack on one of my playthroughs).

Verdict 9/10
It's a realy good thing that Don't Starve became a multiplayer experience to finally create a goal in the game (like destroying the ennemy base). It is cheap and fun so you should defenitly get it !

I crafted a cookinng pot, so then i thought \"hey, this thing needs fire to work right?\"

Set the cooking pot on fire with my torch.

After a little while.... \"Hey, why is there smoke coming from my tent and farms?\"

Good memory....

My name is Wickerbottom; I am a librarian and I cannot sleep at night. But one day I slept and woke up to only find out that I am in the middle of nowhere. However, I have 2 Papyruses in my inventory but what can I do with that? Moments later, I glance at the vast blue sky and then at the beautiful forest that surrounds me, but then with such curiosity I journey out to the wilderness. I decide to pick twigs and flint that are randomly scattered throughout this weird biome. Since I am a librarian I know many skills for living in the wild. I have read "Living Wild: The Ultimate Guide to Scouting and Fieldcraft"an informative book by the magnificent Bear Grylls. After trying figure what to do, I craft an axe so I can chop down trees and provide myself with shelter. After 5 hours of hard-working, I am hungry and horny. I see a digusting human-like pig creature that can speak the English language. I was horrified that this ugly piece of ♥♥♥♥ is eating all the food around me. With my intense knowledge of survival, I grab the grass from the ground and turned it into rope to craft a spear so I can kill this ugly piece of ♥♥♥♥. I do not know how to use a spear but I go f***ing nuts to kill this swine. I repeatedly stab the living ♥♥♥♥ out of it's puny life and I grab it's meat and I store it in my inventory. What have I become?

After I killed that swine b***ard, I decide to cook it but with what? Again, with my intense knowlegde of survival I decide to craft a crockpot; I need charcoal, twigs, and cut stone. After 3 hours of searching for the resources, it is finally time to craft it and cook me up some food. I had 6 berries in my inventory and 2 pieces of meat from that swine b***ard. I do not know what or how to cook food with this junk. So I try to remember the past, and finally there was a book I read by Paula Deen and I can recall a few recipes. Turns out you need 1 meat and 3 berries to make meatballs. Mmm, that ♥♥♥♥ good! I have finally ate something and now it is time to add modifications to my little hut since I got the protein and nutrition I needed. I craft another axe since my last one wore off and I travel out west to find more trees, because I chopped down most of them near my hut. Finally, I find trees near a Savanna biome. It looks pretty interesting but I need to cut down trees first. After chopping down about 9 trees, I go to the awesome looking biome. I hear a weird groan; I was startled so I equipped my spear and hid behind a bush. I see these f***ing huge ♥♥♥ buffalo-looking creatures. There's not one, not two, not three, but f***ing 6 of them. This can be a 4 month supply of food because of their fat bodies. I need to kill these fat b***ards immediately. I craft more spears and attach rope to near-end of it. I throw my spear into one of the creature's heart. I killed it and pull the rope to back to me, and I noticed that one the creatures is looking at me. He roared like a ferocious beast and all the other creatures charge at me.

At this moment I knew I f***ed up. I yell at the top of my lungs but I hear a stampede behind me. I looked behind my shoulder and it was an army of those "swine b***ards." There were so many of them charging at the buffalo-looking creatures. I quickly ran out of the way so I won't get hurt. It was intense, the swine b***ards all jumped and thrust ed their spears against the creatu... f**k it I'm calling them beefalos... they thrust ed their spears against the beefalos' brains. It was the most bloodiest battle I have ever seen. To my left, I see a group of beefalos stomping on the swines; you can see it's organs just spilling out on the ground. The blood was staining the grass; it was horrifying. I run back to the bush where I hid myself last time so I don't get caught into the action. While I was waiting for the battle to end, all I heard was screaming and roaring. I was getting tired so I slept here. A few moments later, I wake up because I can hear footsteps coming towards me. I grab my spear and I held it in a defensive position. It is the swine b***ards.

To be continued...

Don't Starve Together is great. 9/10

Survival, crafting, dark scary nights and a social aspect of bringing your friends along for an adventure.
You simply can't go wrong with a game like this. The artstyle is of incredible beauty and highly stylized, the soundtrack is very suitable for the game's setting and the effects round everything up.

As for the gameplay, it is not for a second shallow. When you start of you are in this intense rush to get enough materials and food to survive your first night. Klei brought this idea of dark and fearful nights back and really did a great job at delivering this frightening experience to the survivors. Especially when you're only just starting, the lack of knowledge and your cluelessness about what to do add a thrilling factor to the world of Don't Starve. Seasons, your sanity, the need for food and the want to build a home make for a very packed list of things to do in only ever so much time, as the days are flying past one after another.

The base game is already a lot of fun, but with the twist of playing with friends it is even more. The reviews speak for themselves and for the price, this is an incredible deal that you probably don't want to miss out on.

I really freaking love this game! A friend gave it to me a while ago as present and I never played it 'cause I had no idea, what it was about (I don't like playing games if I don't even know a little bit about it) one night we played it together and I freaking love it! I'm so obsessed with it.

I like that you don't actually need the Single Player Game "Don't starve", you can also play all alone on your own server and even offline. It's quite challenging, it's pretty hard to keep health, hunger and sanity up and avoiding/fighting weird creatures, but it's so much fun though! And even more fun with friends. A must buy for people who like strange things and challenging survival games.

I really like the style of it, the sketchy grafics, the cute characters, the music and sound effects, this game is a masterpiece and worth every cent.

A great game to play with friends; a not-so-great game on public servers.

Don't Starve Together, or DST, is a multiplayer game based on the popular singleplayer game, Don't Starve. DST is an incredibly fun game to play, with many elements from Don't Starve incoporated into it. It does not have a relatively high learning curve, and the HUD is easy to learn and familiarize oneself with. The crafting system is simple and neat and only the bare minimum detail is used, albeit cleverly.

This game is not forgiving however, do not expect an easy game. Every second must be spent doing something, be it gathering basic resources, or out exploring new sections of the world, scoping out potential allies to befriend or enemies to behead. You may be frustrated at the lack of many "OP" items in the game, or their cost; however, remember this: This is Don't Starve Together, a game that does not want to help you, that will send misfortune upon you, that wants to kill you. The Bees, the Dogs, even the Birds don't like you very much. It's up to you (and friends) to brave the bads and get the goods. So saddle up and invite some friends to play Don't Starve Together.

P.S. I also highly recommend the usage of mods to enhance gameplay once vanilla gets bland. Mods introduce new characters, new buildables, and other fantastic fun actions that you and your team can do.
