Two new Human Tanks games coming!

14 mai 2014

Human Tanks – ALTeR is the much-awaited second installment of the Human Tanks, Charge! series, and sequel to War of the Human Tanks. This time you assume command of the enemy of the first game, the Royal Army, and fight back for all you hold dear!

Human Tanks – Limited Operations is the last of the three games in the Human Tanks, Charge! series. In contrast to the first two games, Limited Operations has the player complete difficult missions with pre-assigned resources and face up against even harder opponents.

Free Bonus Map Pack live now

19 martie 2014

Upon launching War of the Human Tanks on Steam, we asked players to design a new map to be added in celebration.

Out of the submitted designs, three unique designs were chosen to be further polished and created.

We are now happy to announce version 1.10 of War of the Human Tanks, which includes three all-new maps under Free Battle:

"Hellish Infrastructure" - fight your way through claustrophobic corridors with enemies all around. Survive till the end for a handy little bonus (Unlocks after Episode 7.)

"Outpost" - A head-on collision with a difficult enemy force and multiple paths of approach. The enemies here really pack a punch. (Unlocks after episode 11.)

"Ambushed" - a gauntlet style map with limited deployment and an overwhelming enemy. Can you take the heat? (Unlocks after Episode 7.)

The maps are balanced to be hard but beatable on first playthrough, and will be unlocked by playing their respective episodes, or if you are already past that point, by progressing to the next episode from where you are. The patch also includes minor tooltip fixes.

In celebration, we are knocking 25% off the price of War of the Human Tanks - Imperial Edition for 10 days!

“Different in a strangely appealing way; and as a wargame, it is nicely designed and quite tense.”
Costik - Play This Thing

“If you're a military buff with a thing for anime then you'll definitely be interested in War of the Human Tanks.”

Despre joc

War of the Human Tanks is a story driven strategy game with a gameplay reminiscent of Battleship and Chess, featuring a story of war, loyalty, sacrifice and human shaped tanks.

This story takes place in a land vaguely reminiscent of modern-day Japan. In the twenty years since the first Human Tank was developed, the war raging between the Empire of Japon and the Kingdom of Japon has turned into a proxy war fought between Human Tanks on both sides.

The Empire of Japon once ruled the entire land of Japon. Now diminished and cornered, the Empire prepares to make its last stand as the tanks of the Kingdom of Japon draw close to its capital. Shoutaro Daihon'ei, Lieutenant of the Imperial Army moves out to the battlefield, followed closely by the loyal Human Tanks in his company.

Cand ma gandesc ♥♥♥ pierdeam timpul aiurea prin scoala, in timpul orelor, primul joc care imi sare in minte e avioane pe hartie, sau batlefields. De accea cand am vazut War of the Human Tanks pe steam, mi-am adus instant aminte de acesta.

Povestea

War of the Human Tanks isi plaseaza actiunea intr-o lume asemanatoare ♥♥ Japonia moderna.

Gameplay

Jocul propriu-zis e chiar distractiv is intuitiv, insa.

Pacat ca jocul e parca desprins in doua.

Adorable...and yet ruthless at the same time. Remember, human tanks have no rights, and are totally expendable.

Human-like Tanks: what's not to like. Gameplay is easy enough; I found it to be like a watered-down version of Advance Wars, with one of the largest divergences being tile size = hit points (1x1 unit is killed/destroyed by one hit, with a few exceptions).

I liked the storyline between battles too. If you read in other reviews about how the cutscenes were too long; you can speed it up by holding down Spacebar, if I remember correctly. You can also unlock and replay maps, if you're not into the main storyline.

Get the game, or you'll make Heshiko cry a second tear.

Anyone who has bought a fair number of visual novels on Steam knows all too well that Steam seems to have little quality control nowadays, especially in regards to visual novels. Plenty of visual novels that have been released on Steam fail in all regards, bad art, an even worse story and terrible music. So I’ve become apprehensive about buying visual novels from Steam.

War of the Human Tanks, of course, is not solely a visual novel. Most of the gameplay is a top down strategy game. So, assuming that the visual novel part of the game would mostly be filler in between battles, I decided to pick the game up.

First of all let me say that the actual gameplay in Human Tanks isn’t very interesting. It will likely remain interesting for the majority of your first play through (which will take about 5 hours) but once you go back to get the other endings it will start to become a grind. In short, it doesn’t have much depth. Not only that, but the game is also extremely easy, so little to no strategizing is needed to win the game. Once you figure things out it essentially boils down to moving your units forward until you win.

However, the visual novel part of the game remains interesting throughout. It was often humorous and I also found myself becoming more attached to a number of the human tanks than I honestly should have been given the lack of depth in the story. I feel like I was a bit cheated into liking them because of the cute art style and the overall sadness of their existence, but hey, in the end I cared about the story and wanted to see how it ended and that means it did something right.

The art in the game is serviceable but far from great. For the visual novel part of the game the character sprites are a very simplistic chibi style and look good enough, however, they clash greatly with the backgrounds which are just photographs ran through a filter. In the end, the backgrounds are not that distracting and the various art in the actual gameplay portions go perfectly fine together.

Most of the soundtrack is nothing special, but it gets the job done of setting the tone. A few of the tracks are quite good and a few of them are rather poor. All together Human Tank’s soundtrack is fairly average. The sound effects will be rather loud compared to the music unless you lower their volume in the system options, but it is forgivable seeing as they give you the option to turn them down.

Overall, the gameplay of War of the Human Tanks is lackluster but it turned out to be a surprisingly interesting visual novel. Neither the gameplay nor the visual novel are good enough to stand on their own, but together they’re good enough to keep you interested for the time it takes to finish the campaign and get some of the alternative endings. The visual novel part is the better of the two though, so I would not suggest buying it if you’re mainly interested in the gameplay. If you’re looking to buy a visual novel on Steam that isn’t terrible like many of the others on Steam I’d definitely suggest picking this game up.
