Imagine a group of people really liked Counter-Strike but wanted it to be like Ghost in the Shell and you have NEOTOKYO°

I know it's frowned upon to compare it to Counter-Strike but that's really the closest thing there is to compare to it.

General run down on gameplay:

* Round Based

* If you die you are out of the round

* There are 3 classes, each with it's own perks, disadvantages and equipment

* If you are not careful you will die really really quick

* There is an active cameo ability 2 of the classes get to use that makes you transparent and hard to see, moving around though will get you spotted

* Each class has it's own vision mode (such as heat vision to track people through smoke grenades)

* You unlock weapons the better you do in a round and unlocks are reset once the map changes

* Teams are pretty much identical

* Capture the flag is the most popular gamemode, twist being the flag (a female robot torso with no arms) can show the holder where everyone is on the map after a few seconds of hodling it

If you can get some friends to play with you and use the mic chat it's a lot of fun and rounds can get intense.

You blow people's limbs off just to rescue robotic breasts.

Is it original? Yes.
Is it fun? Yes.
Is it at all clunky? Maybe a little.

I'm keeping it short: NeoTokyo is an amazing mod with a great concept, and it has a killer sountrack to boot. I feel like it could incorporate a few more elements of the Counter-Strike series, but even as it is, it's a solid mod.

So, one usual Saturday I woke up and started steam. Found this on the on the recommendation page and it was free and I was like meh, let me give it a shot! Downloaded it, not being very interested in futuristic games. Started the game and went wow, 10 servers and only one with acctual players. Still clicked and played and was I wrong, this is an epic game(mod :P)!

Played my first whole round and died instanly and got a team kill by mistake! Well, said sorry and he forgave me(Who knew you could plant a C4 and send someone on your team flying. Then found it fun and went to top of the score-board on the second round! Everybody was having fun untill a Russsian guy and a 7 year old Russian kid joined. You're probably thinking that everybody ragequit cause of their utter stupidity but no! These other guys trying to help us where saying there on the roof, or go right basically being helpful but the Russian guy started saying shut shut shut up in a wierd accent (I recorded but Fraps wanted to be a ♥♥♥♥♥!) So that guy and the kid started begging me not to call the admin cause I was gunna send the video to him, they are lucky Fraps stopped!) I hope that these guys don't make a fuss next time but today when I joined the same server (only server), people went like, dude did you upload the video, so I told them about how recording stopped 20 second later but they were still saying it was nice of me to shut those 2 up!

Now, never say there is less space in the maps, too narrow or something. You'll get a response like :"Go Play CS!" (This isn't hatred towards CS, just that the NT community don't like players asking why it's not like CS! (The game isn't based on CS!)

Now to end this!
Community: 10/10, nice and tactical in-game and fun to talk to!
Game: 9/10 , No reason to not give 10/10 but you just feel it doesn't deserve 10/10, no game does to be honest!
Weapons: 10/10 I love the way the weapon choosing system works! You get kills and more weapons unlock, now you might say "Wait' isn't that just stupid to let newbs get bad weps and pros get good ones?". Well no! I can choose a P90(Weapon you get at First) and get a kill on a pro with some high level weapon easily and you mostly unlock snipers and low profile silent but low powered guns but doesn't mean they are bad, someimes it is really important to have low powered but low profile(silent) ones!
In-game Music: 9/10, pretty good, get's you pumped up!

Cons: I wish more people would play this and would be great to see some sort of a competition so more players join in to play! Please don't add hats or buyable stuff but let's say a fee of .50 Euro is okay if you want to join the competetion!

One of the best sci-fi first person shooters out there. Being made in the source engine used for Half-Life 2, it does show it's age. But for it's limitations, it is not a bad looking game. The gameplay is solid, using elements from Counter Strike as well as incorporating a lean feature. The mechanics that add a dynamic element to the gameplay is the classes, and their individual features. Besides the obvious "scout is quick with low health, assault is balanced, support is slow and armored", vision is key. The scout class has night vision, assault has motion sensitive vision, and support has thermal vision. Why are these here, you might ask. Well, it has a dark atmosphere, support has smoke grenades paired with thermal vision and two of the three classes can activate camoflage, hence the motion sensitive vision.
Combine all of this with maps designed with realism in mind, original firearms that don't break physics laws, this is easily on of my top games.

counter-strike japan anyone?

played this game for almost 2 months . its enjoying despite having a high ping coz im playing in SEA but yeah its a new way to enjoy yourself. Overall, for me its a good game :)

A guy used his mic and yelled "HULLO, I'M AN 89 YEAR OLD CHINESE MAN PLAYING VIDEO GAMES".
A little prepubescent kid, no older than 9, got onto the mic to tell him to shut up.
The guy then replied "SHUT UP YOU LITTLE KID, NEOTOKYO IS MUCH TOO VILOENT FOR YOU", before laughing harder than Santa Clause having a stroke.

Neotokyo.

A nice fresh breather from all the generic material out and about. It has provided a nice learning curve that has been unlike any other game for me; but I am not implying that we've a totally unique game here. Since it's a mod built on a limited budget there are some aspects that don't seem all that smooth nor polished, but if you're after the gameplay you would simply cease to notice such reduntant worries and enjoy what's right here at your disposal.

As a warning I'd like to point out that this isn't a game like CS or CoD in which you pick up a gun and roll. In other words it's not a game for people with short attention span and childish mentality as it's a rather slow-paced tactical shooter which is really my kind of thing (referring to America's Army 2). Even Recon class with b-hop is unable to make it a quickie.

Soundtrack? Pure gold.
Gameplay? Initial reaction will definitely be confusing and it urges intensively to quit and return to other games, but outperform it and you'll be arriving in a place that is actually very enjoyable.

If you're a fan of Ghost in the Shell then this game is highly recommended... Very tactical, hide and seek gameplay. Requires a bit of skill. Not for the casual gamer but a good change of pace from most modern shooters.

One of best free to play games I had occasion to play. Totaly no microtransactions, nice and simple tactical shooter in near future with cyberpunk athmospehere.

It's been five years... now it is on Steam! Countless hours had been poured in the game and it is still fun as it was five years ago. Certainly one of the best multi-player mod out there, well balanced classes, exotic and colourful maps.

And oh! there is ZERO grinding to get competitive, just stick with it and bear through the learning curve and you will be rewarded with the excellent gameplay.

NT veteran or totally new to NT, give it a try once again. With the new lease of life, it is certainly less punishing than before, when only core veterans left playing. With 5 years of feedbacks and community involvement, it is a extremely well polished mod.

Counter Strike with more customization and options. Do it.

Fun game, interesting concept and great to play with your friends. However, this game is rather out-of-date and glitched, it is in need of some serious updating to revive it.

a very fun and tactical half life mod... if you like insurgency or CS: GO you will like this... because it's kind of a mix of the 2 in my opinion.

Pros:

+ Stunning graphics.
+ Good map design ( multi level combat )
+ TENSION

Cons:
- Difficult Learning curve.
- Small lag spikes
- No use of vehicles - that would be awesome ( perks or something like that)

Conclusion:

A very well made game with interesting tactics, however, the use of vehicles would be amazing to add - e.g. the vents in the levels could be used by robots ( its Japan! ANYTHING can happen :) ) The only downside is the slight lag spikes - whether thats my PC or the code i dont care, it still adds tension :D

• Some people like this, some don't. But it has friendly fire.
  
• Gameplay is enhanced with a mic. If you don't have one it might be a little hard to communicate with your team. But it's still worth playing.
  
• Unfortunately not played much. There are still full servers here and there. But don't expect thousands of people.

NeoTokyo is a free sourcemod FPS game similar to Counter-Strike that revolves around two teams using teamwork and tactics to defeat eachother. There is one main gamemode in NeoTokyo (Capture the Ghost) which is very similar to Capture the flag in which opposing teams must either eliminate the enemy team entirely, or return the "Ghost" to the allied team's score base. The weapons in the game unlock as you play the game and "rank up" over time from your performance. The game also has a slew of maps to choose from which is quite impressive for a mod with relatively humble beginnings. It has a meager but dedicated community of players from all over the world, and it's quite refreshing to play with people speaking multiple languages and cooperating together. If you can handle the occasional lag that is.

PROS

+ Plays very similarly to Counter-Strike
+ Promotes teamwork and skill to win
+ Most maps are very detailed and interesting
+ Dedicated servers

CONS
- Some weapons feel unbalanced
- Some maps are very confusing to navigate
- Relatively small but dedicated community
- As far as i know, updates are very rare
- Only has one serious game mode

Bottom Line
NeoTokyo is a really fun experience that's free to play with a melting pot of players all working together. The gameplay feels solid and despite only having one mode, can be a lot of fun in small bursts at a time, especially on weekends.

really fun. super chill game. like counter strike but has bullet spread. which makes it less of an mlg headshot aiming game and more of a teamwork/survival tactics or watever. its a real simple fun game. kinda like halo. needs to be more populated. gameplay really wakes u up. the default maps are really creative. i dont see this game getting old any time soon. when ever i think about playing it, i see its fun friendly atmosphere. listening to music and conversating with other players while carefully eliminating enemys. the main gamemode is kinda like griffball from halo, but with guns and no respawn. realy feel like a swat team or something. and its really well done. super fun no joke
