Informazioni sul gioco

This is a stand alone mod and does not require SDK BASE or any other dependency such as HL2. It will run on it's own.

NEOTOKYO° is a multi-player first person shooter that provides a visceral & realistic combat experience in a rich futuristic setting.

NEOTOKYO° takes place about 30-40 years from now in a Japan that has drifted into social/political strife due to the inevitable stresses that come from changing times. The Japanese government is grappling with intensified external (Asia geopolitics) and internal (economic/social) problems, and there is mounting pressure from within Japan to return to the days when it exerted influence through military power and strength. A failed legislative push to alter the Japanese Constitution (allowing the Japanese military to engage in offensive actions outside of the country) leads to an attempted military coup by members of Japan's armed forces (GSDF). The coup fails, but was very close to succeeding. In an effort to suppress further coup attempts, Japan's Prime Minister forms a branch inside the Interior Ministry's National Security Forces (NSF) called GROUP SIX. They answer directly to the Prime Minister and are sworn to protect the Japanese Constitution at all costs. They immediately begin to hear rumors of a rogue element of the GSDF Special Forces (JINRAI) maneuvering for a second coup attempt. These JINRAI are Special Operations Group 43 (SOG43), fierce nationalist loyal to their love of country, and a desire to put Japan back into a position of strength and power.

This begins the war in the shadows between the NSF and JINRAI.

I can't believe that I forgot to write a review about NT° up until now.
That said... Changing this now! This game stuck to me for pretty much 4-5 years, so I might aswell add my few cents to this.

First things first. We're looking at a Source-mod based on the SDK from 2006, so I warn you in advance that it's of course not free from any flaws. Those flaws, so we say, are called the "Authentic NEOTOKYO° Experience" - Last through those, and you are battle-hardened to enjoy this game.

Now, going down to the core. The game itself offers a pretty straight-forward style of gameplay, you boot it up, join a server and play, just like it was with HL 2 Deathmatch back in the day. You join a team, either NSF or Jinrai, which both function the same way, no different weapons or skills, just different skins.
The objective of the game is either to eliminate the enemy team or capture an item called the "Ghost", which functions as a kind of flag to deliver to the enemy's spawn which is also known as your cap-zone. The Ghost allows the holder to see enemies on a range of 45 meters, which means that he can give his team a great advantage by calling out location and range.

Both teams have three classes: Recon, Assault and Support, which obviously have different attributes to them.

Recon - Unlimited sprint, longest cloaking duration, fastest moving speed, Nightvision mode, a remote detpack at 4 points, a low-dmg silenced pistol, a super-jump (Uses "Aux-Power", makes you leap a greater distance), low HP as a trade-off, comes with mostly SMGs early on. Usually recommended to more experienced players.

Assault - Limited sprint, medium cloaking duration, medium moving speed, Motionvision mode, a grenade by default, a semi- or full-auto pistol (can alternate), medium HP, comes with SMGs and ARs early on. It basically is the all-rounder to start with.

Support - No sprint, no cloak, slow moving speed, Thermalvision mode, two smokegrenades by default, a heavy-cal. revolver, high HP + no headshot dmg modifier when hit, comes with medium to heavy weaponary early on. It's beginner-friendly, yet sometimes impractical when you try to retreat.

Having that explained, there's one or two dozen of maps to try out these classes on. Some are community made, some are not - that said, we always encourage mappers to create some of their own battlefields to spice things up, every admin would be open to give it a test run.

As for the gameplay, it feels a little slower than other games, yet is quite fast-paced. There's no iron sights, bunnyhopping is encouraged, you can use E and Q to lean around corners to gain an advantage and like mentioned in the class descriptions, there's also cloaking to gain an advantage over the enemy. To top this off a bit more: When a team is also willing to actively communicate, you can get very good coordinated and tactical play going aswell. This can be enforced by locking down areas, defending the ghost, or using it to gain valuable intel that can win the round.
... That said, don't expect much on a Friday, because that's where the bizzarre side of the game comes out... I speak of experience here, I am part of the problem.

With all the good out of the way, there obviously are flaws, which I hinted at as the first thing in my review. Time to get to those aswell!

The engine: Yes, it's dated. Knowing this, the game won't perform in a way it should at times, also making the game crash on map-change or when joining a server. My advice would be to set the textures to medium, that fixed crashing for me. Besides that, it may also make maps run a bit less fluid than they should. My rig for example should run source-games just fine, but there's two maps that still cause my FPS to slide down by a fair amount. It's overseeable, but not optimal of course.

The gameplay: The game is a rough diamond, so the gameplay is far from perfect. There's things such as the "sprint-bug/no-shooting bug". It's a bug that appears when you reload and then follow up with sprinting right after, causing the weapon to still remain empty until the sprinting has been ended. It doesn't happen often, but it is there. Then there's other bugs like your camera spazzing sometimes when throwing a nade, or your vision tweaking out when scoping in with a sniper. Tabbing out can also be a murderous thing for the game, so beware. And the last bit is that the movement and certain other aspects just are not fully-optimized, so I advise you to go into the game with that mindset.

Team-attacking: It's on. Permanently. There's anti-TK measures in form of plugins, but people yet always try to abuse the idea of being able to kill mates. Though, to cure that warning a little, we have a lot of admins that spread across all current servers, making it an easy problem to deal with. Just.... keep in mind that it might happen, even when it's not unintentional.

That said, I think that sums up the general idea, I personally can say that I love the game to bits ever since I picked it up. Not only that, I also do think that it's the only community that I ever dedicated so much time to. It's a great community to be in, wonderful people and memories to be had. If you want more info on what shenanigans can be discovered behind this game, check out this video, which also comes with a stat-rundown with a few things!

That said... Enjoy the game if you decide to pick it up, I am also open for any sort of questions related to it! Thanks RADI-8 for this rough, yet wonderful gem.

Are you tired of the same old generic FPS filled with achievements, microtransactions and tutorials that lead you by the hand and then tell you how awesome you are?

Are you an old school player who's looking for a tactical FPS whose graphics aren't exactly ♥♥♥♥?

Unless you too lazy and/or stupid not to click "visit website" to see how to play the game, then this is worth at the very least a try.

Slower pace means organized, coordinated and tactical gameplay accompanied by voice communication are much more important than in most other FPS games.
Be mindful of the ♥♥♥♥TON of weeaboos (japanophiles), which should be a plus for you if you are one, you'd feel right at home!
WIth no-life young adults asking one another what's their second favourite character of Touhou (because they're using their fav. as their ingame name already).

An amazing cyberpunk theme and aesthetic in addition to a movement system that provides strong game flow.
Sure, the graphics are slightly outdated and the netcode isn't great, but it's entertaining as well as challenging. A game should bhave good gameplay, and Neotokyo has exactly that.
It can be somewhat difficult at first however, but I wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who is willing to try a game with a steep learning curve.

However the best part of this game is almost certainly the community. Because there's not a huge amount of players, we have a nice community where people recgonise each other and play together.
Make sure you join us for NEOTOKYO FRIDAY

NeoTokyo started as a source mod way back in the day. I couldn't tell you exactly when I started playing but it was near the time that steam came out along with the orange box. That said, it had always been a great game I occasionally dipped my toes into over the years.

During those years, a small, tight-knit community has formed (ANP) and it has only been recently that I have dug deeper into the game and it's culture. Like the community, Neotokyo is meant to be accepted wholly with it's flaws intact, they only serve to make the game a richer, character building experience.

Indeed NT would not be the game I and many others have come to love if it didn't crash every few map changes (redlight!). I have come to embrace these NT-isms as part of the entire experience, as have many others.

The game has not changed much since 2006 but it does not need to. If you are looking to play this free source mod, just know a few things:

-Know when to play, certain times of the day will bring more players to servers if it is afternoon/evening/night in their respective timezone. This has been my tactic to work around the small amount of active players.

-Friendly Fire is always on, so be mindful of teammates when lobbing dat nade into that crowded hallway. While it is mostly forgiven, consistant teamkilling will bring the ire of the admins upon you.

-Use a mic, beyond the tactical implications, getting to f--- around with the rest of the NT community is always a laugh.

-Have fun, this is not CoD, Battlefield or even CS:GO, it is a free mod that people really enjoy for the fun of the game with competition being second to that.

Keep those in mind and join up today!
I hope to see you online with us soon, NT FRIDAYSSS!!!!!! (be aware, it gets weird on Fridays)

There is only one way I am able to explain this game: beautiful.
I have spent much of my free time over the weekends playing this game, and I regret none of it. I have meet so many great, diverse and amazing people, whom themselves, are equally satisfied with the game. Though yes, the servers crash, the game is 9 years old, and is unnoticed, none of those factors will stop me from playing this game. I am so lucky to have meet and personally talked to all of the developers, and unlike other games, they really care and are putting their free time to continue the games existence. I can not stress enough the beauty of this game. Even outside of it, I stay in contact with the many people I have had the privilege to meet: Sharing jokes (and cats) over discord, playing other games together, and even, writing a book.

This game has been one of the best things to happen to me. Without the people, and the games community, I don't know where I would be, since this game helped me get through some very tough times in the past, even stopping me from ending my own life.

I owe so much to this game, even more than I have tried to contribute, which includes a book and much artwork. I owe the developers and the community much more then all of that, since it helped me.

Though I may not be able to program, I wish I could help to keep this game alive, because it kept me alive with its music and the love of the community.

I will never stop playing this game, it has helped me too much for me to do that. So, I thank you, and I hope that it will bring me much more in the future.
