2014년 5월 21일

Taken from the latest Ghostlight blog http://blog.ghostlight.uk.com/post/important-agarest-news-an-announcement-sale

Hi everyone. We’ve got lots of Agarest news for you all today. First of all I’m pleased to inform you that both Agarest: Generations of War and Agarest: Generations of War Zero are now on sale on Steam. Agarest Zero is receiving a mighty 33% discount ($13.99 / £10.04 / 13,39€) and can be picked up from here while Agarest: Generations of War is receiving an incredible 66% discount ($5.09 / £3.73 / 5,09€) and is available from here.

It might come as little surprise to you , but while I’m on the subject of Agarest I’m very pleased to confirm that we will be releasing Agarest: Generations of War 2 on Steam later this year. This sequel to the bestselling original game introduces a whole new battle system as well as a raft of other features.

Once again we will be using the team over at Laughing Jackal to port this popular console JRPG to PC.

Now, as some of you may have noticed, Agarest 2 is not a dungeon crawler and has been released in the West :). So, those of you looking forward to finding out which dungeon crawler we’re bringing to Steam (as discussed in my previous blog) will be pleased to know that this announcement is still due to come on Thursday. So do keep your eye on the blog.

More on Agarest: Generations of War 2

THE THIRD INSTALMENT IN THE THRILLING AGAREST SERIES!

One day, the world was enveloped by a mysterious blinding light causing terrible destruction. The central continent, from where the light is believed to have originated, fell silent whilst demons began to spread throughout the world like a plague.

Sometime afterwards, a young man by the name of Weiss, suffering from amnesia, encounters the enigmatic Eva, from whom Weiss learns that he has committed the grievous sin of deicide. In order to atone for his crime, he must become the "Vessel" in which the power of the divinity he slaughtered will be stored. For it will be that power which will be used to resurrect the one whose life he stole.

For those who betray the divine will pay for their sins in the space which separates salvation and damnation, as will their progeny...

Revamped Battle System: Unlike the first two games of the series, Agarest 2 battles are fought with an engaging active grid-based battle system.

게임 정보

At the dawn of time, a terrible war raged between the forces of good and evil, ending in the destruction of the world of Agarest. After their victory, the Gods of Light unified the decaying bodies of the Gods of Darkness and created a new world.

Now, the forces of darkness are awakening once again…

• Choose the path of Darkness or Light through a truly epic story, spanning multiple generations
• Battle hundreds of different creatures using an array of character abilities, in a compelling and innovative turn-based combat system
• Build your ultimate army of warriors and master Extra Skills, Special Arts and Over Kills to defeat colossal enemies!
• Unite with your chosen heroine and use the “Soul Breed” system to shape the fate of the next generation of heroes

Agarest: Generations of War - Exclusive game features!

Agarest: Generations of War includes many unique features that cannot be found in any other Strategy Role Playing Game. Here's a summary of some of the best:

Extended Area

Extended Area is the "Linked Area" set for both your party and your enemies. Each character in the game has a uniquely shaped extended area. When a character's turn comes around, all other characters in the Extended Area of the character in play (and characters in the extended areas of those characters!) can combine in an extended attack. This allows you to chain your party's attacks together, allowing access to more Arts and huge Combos!

Blacksmith's Guild
You can upgrade various Items and Equipment at the Blacksmith's Guild in two different ways:

By Enhancement: You can enhance equipment to a maximum of Level 5. Once an Item is enhanced to Level 5, you can convert the Item, changing it into something else. This process is irreversible and the original item is lost. Experimentation reveals some great new items!

Through Alchemy: Alchemy allows you to combine several items to create a single, more powerful piece of equipment. While you lose the items used in the alchemy, you gain a powerful new piece of equipment and permanent access to your new item in the Shop! Alchemy can create powerful new weapons and armour but occasionally a Smithing Accident will occur and the smith will create a different item than what you expected!

The "Soul Breed" system
Agarest takes place across 5 generations of heroes, starting with your first character, Leonhardt. During each generation you will build relationships with 3 different female party members, and at the end of each generation's story arc you must choose to marry one of the girls.

Your choice of marriage partner is restricted to girls who've grown fond of you over a particular generation. Your options are determined by your choices during conversations at certain points of the story.

The girl you choose as your wife - and the strength of their relationship with you - will determine the abilities of the main character in the next generation of the story. You'll have to experience multiple play throughs to see all of the character possibilities open to you! What heroes might you create?

Free DLC included

I barely played TRPG's (JRPG's aka Japanese Role-Playing Games) when I was young and didn't have much interest in them until I came upon this on the console a few years ago. I enjoyed the game but didn't get far as it was only playable at my distant cousins house at the time but thanks to Steam and providing pc support for the past few years, I just had to get it when the pre-order was available and experience the entire game this time around.

The game begins with ex-noble Leonhardt in the middle of a battle. In order to save the life of an elven girl, he sacrifices his own and betrays his country. On the brink of death, a spirit named Dyshana says that he must give his life, and the lives of his children, to the forces of light. Leo decides to do just that and what results is a grand adventure that spans throughout the various continents of Agarest. Each generation requires you to pick one of three maidens, woo them, and produce the hero of the next generation. Based on the decisions you make your alignment of light, darkness, and neutrality will change. All of this adds up to the opportunity for different looking offspring, various pathways, and multiple endings. However, this is one of the downsides to the game because of the multiple endings, especially for an 80 hour game, are never a good thing. Also, most of the storytelling plays out with static images of the enjoyable and beautifully drawn characters with nice background artwork. I completely fell in love with most, if not all, the characters.

Like most TRPG's, there is a world map in Agarest: Generations of War. The world map is a long path dotted with orange orbs that represent a spot where you're required to do battle. After the battle spot is finished, it will turn blue. This means you can pass by this location on future travels.

Battles are the core of this game. As you plow through battle areas, you will reach an event. Once the event has concluded, you must trudge through more battle dots and work your way to another story event destination. This is the basic progression of the game and continues as such for all five generations. Battles in Agarest: Generations of War are fun in small doses, and often times very rewarding. However, battle after battle; it will challenge anyone's patience due to their length and abundance. It's not that the battles are purposefully long for the sake of being long. The problem is that there are too many of them in a row and, by its nature, TRPG battles take longer than most battles to finish. When a battle ends, you are given a rank. Depending on your rank, you will receive bonus experience points and money. When a character levels up, you can distribute bonus points to their stats. Besides these rewards, you are granted Enhancement Points (EP) for upgrading your equipment and Technical Points (TP) which are used in the Adventurer's Guild in exchange for new items. Battles would be a pleasure if not for their sheer abundance. However, the route on the world map can require you to go deal with five of these non-story battles before entering the next destination. They can be rewarding, but they can also become a chore. The bosses are also extremely overpowered, having the ability to OTK most, if not your entire team and the only way to make a dent in their HP is to use each character's EX Skills in one chain attack.

A wonderful musical score shines in Agarest: Generations of War if you decide to play the game because it has a great selection of music. The Japanese-only voice work that tells the story will appeal to some, myself included since I do know some Japanese, but others will probably frown on it. The rest of the presentation is mixed. Character and monster sprites are absolutely adorable and nicely detailed, and give a classic feel to the game. The art work is stunning for all the characters however, battlefields are a real drag. Not only are they dull, but they're redundant. Unfortunately, they are also where most of your time will be spent. Luckily, the special effects with the skills and magic are exciting to watch.

I would also like to consider Agarest: Generations of War to hardly be considered a sexually driven game even though it may seem that way due to its art style. In reality, it's an almost solid TRPG that most fans of the genre will enjoy. If not for the tiresome, endless battles you have to deal with to get to the next exciting story event or story battle, the game would be a winner. I recommend this game to fans of the TRPG genre that aren't turned off by an overabundance of battles that add nothing to the otherwise well scripted story and characters.

It can either be a hit or miss, which is likely the latter for most people unfortunately. Ultimately, the games storytelling and dialogue is what makes me love the game and adore its characters but it makes me realize that it won't be getting a great rating anytime soon due to having many issues with localization errors, difficulty spikes, overpowered boss fights and the repetitive combat system.

If you are not a fan of JRPG's (Japanese Role Playing Games), then this game may not be for you. What exactly does that mean? If you're not interested in a game where you will have to grind out combat missions that can be repetitive, in a turn based strategy grid layout, then you're likely to get frustrated.

If that doesn't bother you, then you're looking at a game with nice looking anime artwork, a wide variety of combat moves/combos, solid weapon/equipment selection, a huge resource selection for crafting, and the romance to generational continuance as your hero hooks-up and their child carries the torch into the next act. In other words, a ton of little things to enjoy and to give yourself reasons to continue grinding forward. Plus there is a variety of endings, as your decisions can determine who is still standing with you at the end. Plus there is a True Ending that you can unlock if you're careful, which unlocks a whole new zone and some of the best challenges in the game.

The only thing I would warn against is playing with the DLC. The DLC can put the game into easy mode for you until you're approaching the end of the second Act/Chapter. I have the DLC, and I use it, but it's because I'm cruising through to reach the true ending. I've already played this game a ton on my Xbox 360, so I don't feel like I'm losing out on going easy mode to fly through areas I've already been through before.

The game isn't for everyone, but for those who are fans of the genre, I believe you'll definitely enjoy Argarest: Generations of War.
