Coming Soon: A Brand New Land

Today, we’re going to give an early look at what’s right around the next bend for Godus, including: a mysterious new tribe, herds of sheep, a massive hidden treasure, an enormous Ark… and an entirely new world for your followers to inhabit.

There were many of you who, after dealing with the Astari (either through destruction or benevolence), were curious about whether that was all there was to see, or if there was more to discover elsewhere in your Homeworld. Also, what about that last expansion shrine? Is there nothing left to do after unlocking it? As it happens, there will soon be much to do after unlocking that very last shrine. So what exactly will we be adding in?

Well we’ve got this notion that we’d quite like to sail the ocean. This is where the Ark comes into play. Some of you early players may even remember there being a large unreachable boat all the way back in version 1.3. That model, eventually, got used for Voyages. For the Ark, however, we took a look and deicided “we’re going to need a bigger boat”.

So let’s take a look! (Please bear in mind that the following screenshots are only mock-ups; the final in-game version will have at least 6.8 times as much awesome.)

After finally reaching the Astari and doing with them what you please, you’ll find one more Expansion Beacon placed just next to their village.

Unlock that Beacon and hey presto, you’ll suddenly have access to this brand new Ark! Well, perhaps ‘brand new’ is a bit of a stretch. It seems the Astari weren’t exactly doing a good job of maintaining their Ark over the years and it appears to be in shambles. Typical Astari, too busy partying.

Getting the Ark to be seaworthy is a monumental task and will take an unprecedented amount of workers to restore it to its former glory. However, worry not, just like with everything else the more builders you have the faster the process will be. For the Ark, you’ll be able to leash up to 500 followers to work on it at once.

To begin repairing the Ark, you’ll need to amass as many builders as you can manage and once they arrive on site they’ll immediately begin working hard on the repairs. You’ll also need ore to reinforce those repairs and, of course, you’ll need crops both for the build and for the daunting journey ahead.

Commit enough builders and resources to the task and before too long you’ll have an entire Ark to call your own. Once finished, you’ll be able to stock it full of Followers.

You can fit up to 500 of them into the Ark at one time but if, for whatever reason, you feel compelled to only send a handful you can do that too. Just be aware that you may need all the help you can get when establishing your new civilisation across the waters.

After filling (aka, cramming) your Ark full of followers, you’ll be able to embark on a quest to new lands!

A whole new world

Welcome to Wayworld. Wayworld, as it happens, will be a much harsher and challenging environment than you or your Followers are used to. It will also have different visuals and overall aesthetics. Instead of trees there’s now a vast desert of cacti. Instead of rocks there’s now mounds of sand and dirt. It’s a less forgiving landscape than your Followers will have ever experienced before, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t beauty to be found in this strange new world.

Although seemingly barren, herds of sheep roam the land in search of grass and water. Springs of water will help fertile land grow. Every few days, the water levels will rise and the lowest desert lands will flood. So while it might seem a challenging land, it’s one that is far more dynamic than any land your Followers will have visited before.

Wayworld Details

Unsurprisingly, however, the Astari seem to have beaten you to Wayworld. There are now two separate Astari tribes to contend with. The Astari also seem to be up to something this time, as rumor has it that they’re hiding a rather massive treasure of some kind.

What’s more, there’s a third tribe on this land; a tribe that is far more sinister and devious than the Astari. In short, Wayworld will introduce a number of interesting new additions:
  • A vast desert landscape with cacti and sand.
  • One area type that’s best for crops and another area type that’s best for abodes.
  • Super abodes and super Settlements.
  • Two Astari tribes hiding a massive secret treasure.
  • A mysterious new, more sinister and more devious, third tribe.
  • Roaming sheep (to be used in conjunction with a future Settlement).
  • Desert plains that flood every few days.
  • Dynamic water that helps to create fertile lands.

In addition to an entirely new land, there’s also many more abilities and abodes that you’ll have access to. Most of this is still being developed and worked on so be sure to keep the usual caveat in mind: things may get tweaked as development continues, but by and large this an overview of the additional abilities that we’re planning for Wayworld to include:

  • Dig Down
  • Level 3 cliff sculpting
  • Level 9 and 12 sculpting upgrades
  • Sculpting sand generates Belief

New Shrines
  • For example, a Shrine to collect all the Wheat or Ore in a given radius

  • Monasteries

  • Grass Ranks 5 & 6

  • We will be adding a new set of stickers and buffs to compliment the new Age.

Also, if after spending some time in Wayword you find yourself pining for the Homeworld fjords, worry not – the Homeworld is just a menu button away. You’ll be able to return at any time to manage your Homeworld’s Followers, continue any sculpting projects, and collect resources. However, be wary: Wayworld is so far across the ocean that any resources you collect in Homeworld won’t be available in Wayworld.

Version 2.2.1 Now Available to Download on PC & Mac

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been working on completely overhauling our save game system for Godus on both Steam and iOS. This will prevent players from losing their progress or running into problems recovering their saves in future.

Today, we’re rolling out these fixes for all Godus players on PC and Mac, along with a few new bits of gameplay content too.

New Gift & Swampland!
We’ve also implemented a brand new Gift to help boost the Happiness level of your Followers – take a look at our totally tropical Tiki Torch!

If you take a look around your Homeworld, you’ll also find that there are a few swampy areas to contend with now.

That’s right, swamps are no longer just the preserve of your godly abilities but now appear organically within your Homeworld as well, adding an additional layer of challenge when commanding your Followers to spread out and explore the land.

Changes in v2.2.1
Please find below the full list of changes and fixes found in Godus v2.2.1 for PC & Mac.

Please be aware that you may have to restart Steam in order to download the new version of Godus.

Cross-platform development

Our development proceeds through sprints that may have differing platform focuses. As such, much of the gameplay available to you in v2.2 is the result of a recent mobile-focused sprint and we intend to progress to a PC-focused sprint within the coming months. Please take this into consideration, as while adjustments will continue to be made to the PC platform to account for the game's differing payment model (buy-to-play on PC & free-to-play on mobile), some areas of balance and design may retain certain elements of the mobile version for the time being.

Non è un gioco per PC.
C'è poco altro da dire.
Tempi infiniti per completare qualsiasi attività, grafica imbarazzante, interattività sotto la media per questo tipo di giochi (from dust è su un altro pianeta)

In sostanza vorrei i miei soldi indietro, e sono pure un backer.

Mi sento tradito, un gioco mobile sviluppato con i soldi dei videogiocatori di GOD game su PC.

L'ennesima promessa non mantenuta di Peter Molyneux.
Inizialmente mi sembrava che Godus stesse andando nella giusta direzione, lo comprai praticamente subito dopo il suo approdo in Early Access, ma purtroppo ora devo cambiare idea.
Sembra che si siano completamente dimenticati che la piattaforma di sviluppo è il PC, e non uno smartphone.
Ogni edificio e miglioramento richiede un sacco di tempo per essere completato (fino a 40 minuti!) che puoi tranquillamente velocizzare usando risorse ottenibili in quantità molto limitata e che immagino siano legate a microtransazioni su mobile, in perfetto stile Farmville. Nonostante sia un prodotto in Early Access e quindi soggetto a cambiamenti, purtroppo la direzione che sta prendendo preannuncia nulla di buono.
Ci manca solo che gli edifici più grossi vadano completati facendoti inviare materiali da amici che giocano!
Se prima ero un pochino scettico, ora ne sono sicuro: state alla larga da questo gioco, ci sono giochi FINITI molto migliori di questo allo stesso prezzo.

Very clicky, that's for sure. Developers are working hard to fix many issues.
In my opinion, this game is a good choice for 9.99€ considering all the improvement they made all over these mounths.

This game is terrible. In the majority of early access games, i can say that, but only if i then say "But it might get better". With Godus, this is not the case. The game is terrible, and it isnt going to get better. Let me say a few things, before i get to the review, in fear of losing some people to boredom.

If you want Black and White 3: Do NOT buy this game.
If you want a city builder: Do NOT buy this game.
If you want a town simulator: Do NOT buy this game.
If you enjoyed farmville or other such games: You MIGHT enjoy this game.

This games very core concept is simple, really: use your "Dragging" Power to drag the land (Think of the land as a layer-cake, with evenly-sized "layers" to the landscape) to make areas of flat, even land. When a large enough area of flat land is found, a house plot will be placed. By clicking on a nearby house, a person will appear to walk over and build on the new plot of land.

The reason you do this is to generate a arbitrary resource, over time, called "Belief". With belief you can drag the land, place statues that increase the efficiency of the people and a few other, minor, things, such as directing your people in a specific direction.

To gather this belief, you click on a house when a pink bubble appears over each of their individual houses.

Then you drag some more land and get more houses.

But that isnt all, thankfully. You can also "Tech Up" through several "Epochs" of civilization - bronze age, iron age, and so on. To do this... you find "chests" scattered around the world - some underground, some out of your area of influence, some found by doing arbritarty minigames that amount to doing what you were doing already. When you find enough "chests", you can place the "Stickers" you get from the chests onto "Cards", which unlock "Technologies" which results in a advancemnt of "epoch". The reason all of those were in quotations was due to the fact that all of the above thing; Chests, Stickers, Cards, Technologies and Epochs, are all completetly arbritary. You find a "Furs" sticker, and nothing happens. You get the "Family" card and nothing happens. You advance a epoch, and nothing happens.

At best, the technology system is nothing more than a glorified banner representing how much you have played the game.

There is a horrible sounddesign (Wind that gets annoying, and various "PLING. PLONG. PLING" noises from clicking things) The graphics design is awful, consisting of manequin people (devoid of all personality, emotion, or even looks) Houses (Which are basically brown squares that all look the same) and the landscape (Which frankly looks just weird, really.)

Please. Dont buy this game. It is a waste of money. There is so little game in this game for the $20 you could spend on it. Go and buy another $20 game, or go get a book. Watch a movie. There is no reason to spend that large an ammount of money on this game.

Sfortunatamente mi trovo a fare una recensione negativa per questo gioco che per molto tempo si è trovato nel mio radar, ai primi sconti l'ho comprato a 15€ e menomale non al prezzo pieno. Il gioco è praticamente sprovvisto di tutorial che spieghino un pò le meccaniche del gioco, ma questo è ancora accettabile dopo tutto si ha un gioco che è in fase beta e nel caricamento si legge chiaramente che il gioco è al 40% del suo potenziale ma dopo qualche ora di gioco ci si ritrova a seguire una routine abbastanza chiara:

1)Togli gli alberi
2)Crea nuove case
3)Ristruttura gli altari della fede
4)Espanditi
5)Ritorna al punto 1

il tutto è intervallato dalla possibilità di fare una sorta di "boss fight" contro l'ai nella battaglia degli dei, cosa che però non mi ha entusiasmato fin dal primo match. Insomma mi aspettavo molto di più. Se con i prossimi aggiornamenti verranno introdotte nuove meccaniche allora per me non ci saranno problemi a fare una recensione positiva ma per il momento un gioco così lo pagherei non più di 5€ andando comunque a perderci. Se si pensa che a 18€ durante i saldi ho preso i 3 bioshock e il pass di infinite il gioco è al momento decisamente sovraprezzato.

Beh che dire? Non mi aspettavo di aggiornare DUE volte una recensione in un giorno ma ehi, c'è una prima volta per tutto. Bene ho scoperto di non essermi interessato abbastanza al discorso gemme. Qualcosa che ti permette di costruire immediatamente la struttura? Che figata! Prima le ho finite e distrattamente ho provato ad usarne un numero che non ne avevo e mi è apparsa una frase dove diceva che se non avevo abbastanza gemme potevo COMPRARLE in negozio. Avete capito bene COMPRARLE. Cioè io ho pagato un gioco e per poterci giocare devo COMPRARE delle cose in negozio? Ho questo gioco dalla versione alpha per cosa? Per vedere una beta dove mi trovo una cosa del tipo "ehi vuoi giocare a questo gioco come se fosse un gioco per dei pc-gamer? Allora PAGA di nuovo altrimenti gioca come se fosse un dannattissimo browser game e GTFO" ragazzi veramente qui siamo al limite della truffa. NON compratelo e spendete 20€ in altro. Fate una buona azione e donatelo a qualche opera caritatevole ma NON date un soldo a questi della 22 cans. Andando a informarmi poi sulle notizie di godus sembrerebbe che questo gioco esca come FREEMIUM (gratis con acquisti in app) sulle piattaforme android e iOS. Io non ho parole se ci sarà la possibilità chiederò il rimborso, non voglio questo gioco un minuto di più nella mia libreria. E non fatevi ingannare dalla valutazione "nella media" come riportata da steam perchè comunque il 56% degli utenti ha votato questo gioco negativamente.



Aggiornamento nr 2:

BRAVA 22 CANS! Devo ammetterlo c'è stato un netto miglioramento della qualità percepita del gioco con le voci degli sviluppatori che ti spiegano le varie carte che sblocchi (che finalmente sono state spiegate tra l'altro) sono stati aggiunti i viaggi (che ti danno carte più rare se completati) ed è stato aggiunto l'altare dei sacrifici per ottenere delle gemme che possono essere reinvestite in fede (che da la forza per modellare il terreno) o in sticker (che sono necessari per "sbloccare" le carte che si trovano) siamo arrivati a un punto che FINALMENTE si vede qualcosa di sensato. La routine è livevemente cambiata infatti ora è qualcosa del tipo:

1)Togli gli alberi/rocce
2)Inizia a costruire le case
3)Mentre costruisci le case fai un viaggio
4)Ritornato dal viaggio "sblocca" le nuove carte che hai trovato
5)Trai vantaggio dalle nuove carte
6)Espanditi
7)Ritorna al punto 1

Che non sembra ma quei due nuovi punti rendono il gioco un minimo più interessante. Sempre sovraprezzato e sempre NON consigliato ma ci stiamo muovendo verso la direzione giusta, lo dimostra che avevo 5 ore di gioco complessive e ora ne ho fatte 2 senza nemmeno accorgemene. Solo ora sto vedendo la solita routine ma scrollando l'albero dell'evoluzione ho letto di alcune cose particolarmente interessanti e che mi spingono ad andare avanti. Notare però che sono stati cancellati NUOVAMENTE i salvataggi quindi è come se avessi riniziato da zero il gioco. Vedremo come si evolverà questo gioco che sta diventando FINALMENTE qualcosa di interessante oltre i 30 minuti di gioco

Aggiornamento:

Con il nuovo aggiornamento hanno provato a migliorare il sistema di gioco portando il completamento di quest'ultimo praticamente al 50% sfortunatamente per me non è ancora sufficente, oltre ad aver perso tutti i miei salvataggi il gioco è rimasto comunque alla routine che ho scritto sopra. Al momento rimane sovraprezzato rispetto a quanto lo pagherei io.
