Community Update - Godus Wars - February 3rd 2016



When is combat coming out?

Right now! With the release of Godus Wars, combat finally makes it’s full introduction into the Godus universe. Peter has always considered Godus being two games: one tranquil, peaceful and the other war-like with bloody battles taking place across the unique lands.

Have you abandoned Godus?!

Not at all! The release of Wars proves that we are still dedicated to Godus and everyone who owns or has previously purchased Godus, already has Godus Wars! Yes! Godus Wars is free for all previous Godus Kickstarter backers & owners.

We’re using Early Access to gather balancing feedback and gauge player reaction as we work towards a feature complete release.

Early Access will allow our users and loyal Kickstarter backers to try out and provide detailed feedback in order for us to deliver a more polished, optimised and balanced game upon release!

The release of Wars demonstrates that we are still dedicated to Godus.

What's the plan with the Godus backer rewards at this point? When will people be receiving those?

We're continuing to work through the release of the Kickstarter backer rewards. The Art of Godus backer book was sent out to the appropriate tiers last year and the Early Access launch of Godus Wars brings with it a large collection of Godus design documents and Documentary has been completed.

What will you do with Godus Wars feedback?
We will be collecting all detailed and relevant feedback posted and while we won't be replying to all posts individually, we will be reading everything. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board for Feedback updates!

What is happening to this page now that Godus Wars is out?

Now that Godus Wars & Godus are both available as one package, we will be closing the Godus Store page and removing the higher price from sale. The discussion boards will be left untouched.

Community Update - September 11th



This week we’re very happy to announce that the team has been making some good progress in regards to the combat gameplay! As you may already know, we’ve recently spent some time tuning and fixing the Warbands pathfinding. We have now reached a very good result that we want to playtest before continuing working on this. That’s why recently we moved onto a new exciting feature: Combat God Powers.

In combat, God Powers will help you change the course of the battle. You will be able to set your enemies on fire, slow them down or give your troops a bonus to maximise your chance of victory!

This novelty in how powers are used in Godus is also presented to players with a new UI visualisation. The power cards are looking more aggressive to better convey the combat theme.

Annah has been working on this for the past few days and we’re happy to show some of the new visuals today.

Rain of Purity is a power you probably already know. You’ll be able to use it in combat and its card now looks more beautiful than ever:



Another cool new power is Military Settlements. It will allow you to build a special type of structure necessary to create Warbands. Here’s how it looks:



A bunch of new exciting powers and visual improvements are part of the combat update and we will begin showing them to you very shortly.

优点:

首先这个游戏的美术风格使用了当下最流行的low poly风格,一切都是由多边形组成的,简约的图形,淡雅的色彩,画面上给人一种赏心悦目的感觉,非常舒服。
设定上而言,玩家是这个世界的神,游戏从拯救两个小人开始,引导他们一步步的发展下去。繁衍生息,建造新的住所,通过点燃大篝火发现新的地域,甚至通过远洋航行探索世界。看介绍视频到后来会有更多的事情可以做,看起来似乎是有非常丰富的玩法,也能够满足玩家作为“神”掌控一切掌握这些小人生杀大权的感觉。
但是这个游戏仅仅是看起来很美而已。
进入游戏相当缓慢,可能是我的电脑问题,在玩上游戏之前我重试了好几次。
  • 第一次顺利进入游戏,但一直提示“Return to Civilization”——游戏认为我将画面移动到了目前还没解锁的地域。但我在地图上寻找了很久很久,没有看到任何可以操作的物体。正常来说游戏打开是直接进入教程,一眼就能看见两个小人在游泳。
  • 第二次进入游戏失败,在启动画面卡了很久很久,最后程序自己关闭了。
  • 第三次进入游戏,启动画面过后卡在黑屏上,失去响应。

背景里絮絮叨叨的男声令人生厌,没多久我就把声音关掉了。这解说的声音像是一个啰嗦的实况视频,感觉没什么必要性,画面上该有的提示都有了,没有必要用语音不断地讲讲讲。
操作比较别扭,用鼠标选择地块边缘并进行拖动的操作,没做多久就感觉到厌烦了。判定混乱,拖起来手感奇怪,有时候难以瞄准需要操作的目标。
玩到第三次点燃篝火的时候,游戏的系统开始让我感觉到恶心了。
  • 信徒中的建筑师有可视范围限制,虽然游戏告诉我可以通过选中—拖拽操作让建筑师前往特定地点、建造特定建筑,但是却很难选中建筑师。
  • 玩家的能力需要用游戏正常进程中的卡片激活,但有的卡片默认是未激活的,这就需要玩家在地图中寻找宝箱,搜集特定属性的贴纸贴在卡片上,填满进度条激活卡片。一旦找到的卡片类型不对,就只能默默等待建造好大型篝火,解锁新的区域后再寻找宝箱来解锁,或是通过使用Gem来购买贴纸包。
  • 无责任地推断一下,宝箱中偶尔能开出宝石,但目测宝石主要需要氪金来获得……呵呵,道具氪金套路。
  • 玩家修改地形需要用到信仰,信仰需要通过信徒的房子产出,解锁新地域后,建筑师往往看不到新地域的建筑地基或是无法到达,这就需要玩家大量修改地形,开出一条路来。那么这时候信仰就不够用了,随之而来的是漫长的等待和点击。

尽管游戏相当令人上瘾,但别扭的操作,被打断的节奏最终令整个游戏变得乏味得像是一般的手机游戏。

我玩过很多游戏,正版的盗版的。这都不能阻止我被这款游戏令人深恶痛绝的野人入侵所打败。我实在是不知道怎么击败这些野人,我查了贴吧,查了steam论坛,甚至这个游戏厂商的官方网站我也查了。这都不能让我击败那些不停的杀我的农民,烧我的房子的混蛋。删游戏之前,我用修改器改了资源,但是野人的恶心程度,还是不能让我忘怀。一个这种探险发育的游戏玩成这样。给100个差评我都不觉得过分。对不起厂商,但是我142的智商真的不知道怎么玩下去。

I really want to like, nay, to love this game. I really want to enjoy it and spend hours on end sculpting worlds, making everything better for my little worshippers and punishing those that dare oppose me or my little minions.

I just can't.


I supported the game in the Kickstarter campaign and I was thrilled to see Peter Molyneux reinvent the Populous game. This was awesome and I wanted in. Following the team develop the game gave me hopes and concerns, unfortunately most of the latter. I saw some appalling design descions and hoped they would change it or that I just would be proven wrong. Gaining access to beta in 2013 (two years ago) told me first hand, that that was not the case. At the time, they told us it was at most 40% complete.

I played it an entire evening and afterwards I felt I had been waiting for the fun to happen the whole time. It was like, I just have to play a little more, and then the real fun begins. It had potential but it's a slow, grinding, waiting and ultimately boring game. Disappointed I left it there and haven't touched it until yesterday.

Two years have gone. There's a counter ingame that says it's 53% complete. Almost nothing happened to that progress bar in two years!

Truth to be told a lot of features have been added but the core game is still slow, grinding, waiting for the fun to begin and ultimately it's still a boring game. There are so many design decisions that seems to be in place to slow the game down, make the player do senseless tasks and grind to oblivion and back.

Realising that the game has actually been redesigned to a mobile game with in-app purchases to speed up gameplay makes all of the above make sense. This is however not the game I bought. Peter Molyneux revealed himself a fraud unfortunately.

I want to love this game but I just can't.

THE MOST EPIC example of how a potentially wonderful game can fail.

It really breaks my heart to say that somehow they almost developed the game I always wanted, but then gave up, little by little, of the whole thing.


PLEASE DEVS, if not because of the people who bought it, at least for yourselves ... just finish this project! I mean ... man, you have done the hardest part (the concept of a highly optimizable ground for AI, the beautiful design, the water simulation...) so just use what you already have, put some sense and an end to it!

PEOPLE, for now, untill something changes, you should not buy it.

This game is broken, unfinished and not worthy of your money. Don't bother!

If you're looking for a god game, this is not it! It's a silly attempt at what would have been a cow-clicker grade microtransaction-filled mobile game if it weren't for the initial criticism that prevented that from really coming into existence as far as the PC/Mac release goes.

I don't think the developer even knows where to take this game from here, let alone the fact that the sculpting system is part of the game's biggest design flaw. They have also stopped communicating leaving anyone who bought the game in the dark, with no chance for a refund.

I can't possibly recommend this. Not even for free. And it being still in early access is not really a valid excuse for anything.

I was hoping for a revival of a game in vain of Populous or Black & White, but this abomination is nothing of the sorts and never will be.
