SolForge is a free-to-play digital collectible game in which players construct their own decks to challenge their friends or battle against the computer. The current open beta version includes deckbuilding, collection management, online play, AI opponents, tournaments, drafts, and more. The full release of SolForge will feature all of the strategy and tactics of a full-fledged CCG, including a single-player campaign mode, co-operative raids, and more. Unlike other online collectible games. SolForge was designed specifically for the digital space, with smooth game play and an intuitive interface.

The core mechanic in SolForge is leveling. Whenever you play a card, that card levels up into a new, more powerful version. As the game progresses, you level up, and gain access to your more powerful higher level cards. Some cards start off weak and level up into powerhouses, while others start off strong and don't improve much as they level, presenting strategic and tactical choices that will challenge even the most seasoned gaming veterans.

This is a great card game. I use to play hearthstone and enjoyed it for some time but I actually like this one more. For one its not well known so there isn't a million sites with deck builds all over them for it. So you don't run into a bunch of net decker's. 99% of the time people are using decks they thought up themselves. Cards are pretty easy to get. Everyday you get two packs from dailies that often net you a few commons and some rares and an occasional heroic. But if you really want heroics and legendary cards you have to play draft games which only cost 3 tickets and you get 1 ticket a day. So you can do drafts every three days if you want. You on average get about 2 or 3 heroics a draft and 1 legendary maybe every 8 drafts. There are tons of other ways to get cards to for people just starting the game. Just play all the single player challenges and they give you cards too.

My only real gripes are that you can't talk to anyone. There is no way to chat and really no easy way to add a friend either... So that kind of sucks. But other than that it's a good game.

I am addicted. This game has a lot of deck themes and are all potentially powerful. Some of the cards I think are too strong but I can live with it because it's relatively rare. Client is a bit buggy but this might be your next addictive game.

Having given this game a good couple of hours (spread over a few months, which makes it seem rather sparse), I feel confident in recommending it to others if only for the novel appeal.

In short, drop cards like they're hot!

The "Leveling" system for the cards puts a different spin on play-style, as well as the zero cost for playing them. The only cost you pay is the regret of having to discard the cards you didn't use but ended up needing. But that's all circumstantial and a bit easier to mitigate once you've a better grasp on the cards and mechanisms.

That said, some cards might put you off at first. "Big whoop," you might say, unless it's within the first 'round' or two of hands and you realize, "Holy balls, the level-ups are incredible!" So yeah, drop those cards. Even if your ranks are full and the spells you have aren't necessary, it still pays to play *something* if only for the sake of getting a stronger version of it later, and you're on hand 3 of 4 in the round. And again, no 'mana' cost.

It has a "snowball effect" appeal to it, I guess. Which can be refreshing. While I appreciate the cautious, long-haul strategy of Magic and similar card games a bit better, sometimes I like something with a faster pace and exponential growth - though I seldom see my level 3 cards.

This is all online play notwithstanding. I base an assumption of "Legendary Stomping" on other reviews, and have had enough experience with Hearthstone to be frustrated by feeling incapable of beating anyone. Fact of the matter is, I'm a heavy gamer, but spread my attention across many games. I simply don't invest enough time in these F2P games to build a strong collection and be competetive. And that'd be a lame excuse to pay real life money, so I won't. If I get tired of playing against CPU and draft tournaments feel too noncommital after awhile, I'll just stop playing again.

But again, fun game/concept and worth at least a small chunk of your time to try.

I'm somewhere around 700-800 hours of playtime, since iOS progress isn't calculated. I've played the game DAILY since January 2014 on iOS, when the deck customization was implemented to the game.

SolForge is one of the two actually proper digital card games around for the people looking for depth in mechanics. The other would be Battle Decks, not Hearthstone, but let's not go there now...

-30 card deck
-Draw 5 cards on each turn
-Start with rank 1 (tech level in game)
-Played card gets a leveled up version to your discard pile
-Each rank consists 4 turns for each player
-Discard pile and the rest of the draw deck gets shuffled when new rank (tech level) begins
-Based on actual effects and combinations, instead of flat out power/health of the cards
-Most of the cards are capped to rank 3, but these are few that have rank 4 as well (not necessarely better)

The table consists 5 lanes. Creatures attack the players, which both have 100 health at the start. The goal is obviously to get that to zero. If there's a creature at the opposing lane, the damage is exchanged. The damage is permanent and not healed on turns.

The reward mechanic is VERY fair for a F2P game. There are no premium only -cards.

1) You get a booster (or better) reward as daily login and silver worth around ~333% of a booster.
2) From a first daily win, you get a draft ticket worth 4 boosters.
3) From a third win, you get a similar reward as daily login - booster (or better) and silver worth ~33% of a booster.
4) Each win also gives you 250 silver, which is 5% of a booster price.
5) With 3 draft tickets, you get to enter a draft where you KEEP the 30 cards you draft. On top of that, you play 4 matches and get better rewards depending on how you succeed. Minimum reward is 4 boosters on top of the 30 drafted cards, which eg. include all the legendary cards in the game.

The only real downside is that the legendaries from the past few sets have been power creeped. Legendaries used to be very situational, but the fact that there are now quite a few lengedaries that work.

I suggest you play the game on iPad. That works wonderfully.

The developer said that there should be a massive overhaul to the UI this autumn, but not quite sure if they'll make it.

Highly recommended.

Solforge: A fine time waster for TCG fans.

The Good:
A decent amount of content available to a non-paying player
Unique gameplay system, not quite hearthstone, not quite MTG
Satisfies that TCG itch, for a while
Cross-play on Android :)

The Bad:
Gameplay gets stale after so long
Not much bang for your buck, if you are paying, you are paying a lot.
Campaign is a joke compared to what we backed on Kickstarter

Overall, I'd recommend this to TCG players looking for a little distraction
from the norm. I wouldnt consider this a full fledged competitive TCG as
most people online just have better cards that do better things and encourage
you to spend lots of money trying to get the cards you need.

F2P - 4/5
P2P - 2/5
