The classic run-n'-gun blow the ♥♥♥♥ out of every thing you see type of game that helped raise the bar on the FPS genre. Worthy of a place on the same shelf with other classics such as Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and Half-Life. Quake was the first game that really brought 'Death-matching' to is popularity when it was originaly intended for DooM. Glorious if you like a lot of blood going all over the damn place, your enemies limbs flailing through the air, and watching his head land upright as some kind of trophy for genocidal maniacs. If you like what was aftly mentioned, you'll find the Quad Damage powerup practicaly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ic. Solid game play with very little story. Seriously, its allmost like they came up with the story at the last minute by some one who was reading The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft; Definitely NOT a story driven shooter like what Valve made from heavily modifying this games engine. I'd give it a 4.5/5, because I like a neat story to go along with my killing. I don't recommend the Quake games 2 through 4 though unless you love the deathmatch and how its slightly different.
