Went to play this game after the first Red faction in hoping a contribution to the storyline.
no luck there unfortanetly.
It's a fun game as a stand alone, but not a worthy piece in the red faction series.

The sequel of Red Faction is not like the first one. This one is fairly not good as the first one, but still playable and enjoyable.

Red Faction by name only. As a RF game, it sucks. If it was something else, it would be pretty mediocore. About 4 hours long.

Pro:
Dumb fun while it last

Con:
Graphically worse than the original Red Faction
Music and gun sounds are nothing to write home about.
Story is laughable
Unskipable cutscenes
turret sections
Pretty much zero connection/mention of the original Red Faction

What can be said about Red Faction II? The original Red Faction was quite a success (in terms of quite positive reviews and sales) so a sequel was eventually determined to come out soon. Originally a console game and later ported to the PC, it tries to outmatch its predecessor with more action, more vehicles and with a definitely more stupid storyline. What's the final result?

Of course it's not as good or original as Red Faction I. The charm of sneaking around in a Mars colony is nowhere to be found anymore (there's really no link to the story of the first game), the gameplay got definitely dumbed down and the level design is extremely linear. To make it worse, you can no longer make use of the legendary GEO MOD engine as in Red Faction I. You are partly able to blow out some walls or pillars, but that's all. GEO MOD my ♥♥♥.

Nonetheless I must admit that riding vehicles or blowing away enemies with your yellow grenade launcher can be quite fun. The focus definitely lies on action and that's not necessarily a bad thing. On the other side the cons really let you down after all.

The Good:
+ Non-Stop action
+ Many vehicles
+ Many weapons
+ A not so bad second half of the game

The Bad:
- Dumb, repetitive gameplay
- Linear level design
- Boring, foreseeable story
- A horrible first half of the game
- No real replay value
- No real multiplayer available, only a bot mode

The Ugly:
-- Non-skippable ingame cutscenes (I HATE that, seriously)

It's really hard to recommend this game in retrospective. It's an ugly console child with a horrible first half and a more interesting second part. If you still decide to buy it, at least do so during sales or via the Red Faction Collection.

4/10

Pros
-Better quest tracking compared to the first one
-Dual wield weapons
-Fun cheats

Cons
-Short
-Bad story
-No checkpoint and the manual save does not save where you are in a level, only which level you reached so if you are far into a level and you die/want to quit, you will have to restart from the beginning of the level.

Neutral
-Jason Statham is one of the voice actors in the game.

Overall not as good as the first Red Faction. Don't go into it expecting the same style of game, the only thing it has in common with the first one are the nano cells and the name "Red Faction".

Red Faction II is not worthy of it's title.

The story is not in any visible way related to the rest of the Red Faction series, so if you don't play, you're not missing anything.

The gameplay seems much more oriented to just destroying and killing enemies without purpose, compared to the first game where there is clear direction, and where stealth may be a key tactic.

The control system works well with a keyboard/mouse setup.

The graphics, somehow, seem worse than in the original game, even though it was made later. Things seem more blocky, as well.

The voicing in this game seems to make use mostly of generic "shoot-em-up" lines, and isn't very interesting. This is slightly redeemed by the fact that Jason Statham voice acts in this.

The installation works fine on windows 8.1, no issues as compared to the first game. Check the forums for a guide if you do have issues, though.

Don't buy this game. It doesn't play a part in the wider Red Faction story, and it's poorly made.

7/10 its good but not as good as the first.

the transition between this game and the first is almost exactly like the transition between F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 2.
for those who havent played F.E.A.R. what i mean is the first one felt immersive and second one felt like a mindless
run and gun game (not to say run and gun games aren't fun but immersive is better). Anyways bottom line is if your
a fan of retro shooters similar to doom, quake, wolfenstein ect. and are pressed on time (took me less than 10 hours
to beat it on easy) than i highly recommend this game.

Oh my god, this game is so bad.

I don't even see how this is a Red Faction game. The red faction is worthless throughout the whole game and they just take the back seat to the story. It has no ties to the first one and it just seems like it's trying to be more like Call of Duty then Red Faction.

The checkpoints are stupid. But it doesn't treally matter because the game is so easy. It took me like 3 hours to complete this game.

Just play the first game.

Bad game/10

I turned this one on to play and I am having trouble continuing to play it. Something just feels off from the first game. In some areas tiny graphical improvements from the first, but not much. If its part of a pack where you get several games then ok... but I don't think I could suggest this one.

SUPER NOT AS GOOD AS RED FACTON 1

Game is boring, weapons do next to nothing agsinst the bullet sponge enemies, confusing UI, the resolution settings don't do anything it just plays at 600x800, writing is bad, voice acting is worse, attles drag out too long, battles aren't even fun or interesting, setting isn't interesting it's just generic cyberpunk big city bigger corporation, the level design is meandering and doesn't give you any real direction on where to go, the enemies are annoying especially those little jumping spider things.

It just feels like a totally different game than the first one, which I suppose isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but it tooks the first one which was fun, interesting, gripping, and original, and just didn't do any of that. It's not even a poor imitation because it isn't even an imitation. It's just poor.

Anyways what I'm getting at is, buy the first one, buy the bundle if it's cheap, I don't care. Just don't play this one, it's just a waste of time.

It looks nice though, I'll give it that.

This game is half and half. I beat this in 2 hours, plus afk for half and hour. It seems like the devs wanted this game to run on everybody's computer. Unlike Red Faction 1, bodies dissapear, in this the damage to terrain seems toned down. It has a decent storyline, not good but not terrible. It has cool combat chunks, such as tanks and flying things. In order to run this game on windows 8 and some windows 7 computers, you need to patch it, this only takes 5 minutes. Unless your not tech savy then look it up on youtube, and it should take 10 minutes. If you can't read it will take 6 months, if you cant breathe then you probably stopped reading this and jumped in a fish tank. Over all review is 7/10. I enjoyed every part except the sewer level, I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Story is dead simple and boring, so you wont really care about that.
Fun shooting. Good variety of levels, bad guys and weapons.

Sad that story have no connection to first installment.

Single player is aproximately 3.5h to 5h long.

Definetly more intese than Red Faction 1

This game is sooooo bad that I don't even know where to start... Enemies are stupid and often are just looped in the same state - shoot & cover. No other movement whatsoever. Plot is nonexistent. Chracters are just funny in their stupidity. Only good thing is to listen Jason Statham and Lance Henriksen. But on the other side what they are saying is just crap. I am just curious why this game is called RF2 anyway? I didn't have the nerve to play it normally so fortunately for me there are cheats - so it's like Grenade Launcher + infinite ammo. This is the only way to get some enjoyment from this game.

A very disappointing game in the series, would say its the worst of the lot. Definitely feels like a bad console port.

Only reason why I got it was because it came with the red faction bundle which was on sale. Didn't like the feel of this game when I booted it up and played the first mission a bit.

Gave it up right after that; still gotta finish this though as I spent money on it.

Would only recommend getting this as a part of the red faction bundle when its on sale. And for hardcore red faction fans, well play it. For others, you won't miss out on much if you don't play this.

Disappointing sequel. Short. Linear. Nice choice of guns but terrible mechanics. The first few levels are painful to play but then the run and gun pace make it bearable 'til the end. Not reccomended.
