I ate a bowl of soup and blew up a house afterward, followed by catching some natives in the 'act'...

10/10 would do it again (not real rating)

Sorry, had to throw that out there... So far, the game seems great. For it's time, it's great graphics, and it's my perfect blend for a run-n-gun game : lots of violence with a mix of comedy... and lots of reasons to sidetrack.

Definetly worth the 10$ this is worth so far, and i'm only on level 4 of the game (though I got this game for 99 cents, only double the price of my common homecooked meal, so that's a bonus on my end... dont know about the people who have to spend 5 dollars on a compact french meal, though...)

on my rating though... 8/10 is my real rating (the game engine's physics throw it off, you will rage about 50 dozen times trying to get one of the secrets on the 4th bloody level.)

Serious Sam 2 doesn't take itself seriously on the surface, but as a hardcore fan of tough slaughterfest FPS bullet/melee hell gameplay that this franchise is known for, I give this game a serious thumbs up.

I am by no means an inexperienced player so trust me, if I say a game is hard it's probably tougher than what you'd expect and SS2 is surprisingly difficult which is a refreshing revamp of the series that delivers exactly what real fans wanted. Normal in SS2 feels more like hard in SS1 a lot of the time and the tricks up the dev's sleeves perform nicely and will have you strategizing more than shooting on various occasions.

The weapons have a pleasant, balanced feel to them that encourages you to get creative and never have an ultimate go-to. Yes some weapons are of course better for certain situations than others, but seldom will you feel like you'd be screwed if you didn't have ammo for a specific weapon. The Devs are good about giving you the ammo you need, and you see ammo packs, large health and powerups much more often in this installation of the series making way for big fights equally more often.

Enemies are what you'd expect, but there's some awesome additions especially ranged enemies. In the first game, most of the ranged attacks were projectiles but in SS2 there's more rockets and more bullets to force you to kill fast, fast fast and prioritize targets effectively if you want to stay alive for long. Also, there's more strategy involved in taking down enemies this time around. One of the first enemies has a shield that it'll drop when you shoot it, but I'm pretty sure making contact while before it drops the shield does more damage. I'm not positive about that though. Either way, more strategy difficulty and satisfaction.

The environments are pretty epic and vary just enough to keep you happy without getting overly obnoxious. There's moments where you say "Damn, this game had amazing graphics for it's time" and it did, not only that, but the engine is super optimized. I have a pretty aweful system and I'm very impressed by how well I can run the game.

Serious Sam 2 has stupid humor that made me laugh and facepalm simultaniously. You have to not take it seriously, and with the massive amount of bloodshed that goes into this game, the comic style of the game and it's visual design is commendable on the part of the Dev's. I will say that I prefered the darker style of SS1 but where this game lacks in any area for me it makes up for in gameplay. The gameplay is just awesome.

This game is satisfyingly challenging, fun, surprisingly not repetetive for the very basic concept behind it, and goes down in my book as a must-have for fans of games like oldschool doom, painkiller, and other doom clones including serious sam 1.

I'd pay $20 for this game, and I paid $10. Maybe I'm a sucker for games like these, but if I am then I gladly sucked this game right up and I give this a total of 7/10. Not bad for a game that's literally like: Here's baddies, here's gun, here's excuse oops I mean story, go kill. *Pounds chest*.

***Warning: My reviews are biased!***

Completed: No
Played Using: Mouse/Keyboard
Initial Expectations: Played Serious Sam 3 first and found it boringly repetitive. Expected similar.

This game is a little more amusing then the 3rd game which seemed to focus more on its pretty graphics. In the end it still is just fun for reckless killing and can be challenging. It gets really repetitve and the story is boring.

The Good:
  • Amazing graphics for a 2005 game with many lush, colourful environments.
  • Extremely optimized engine with very low system requirements. This game runs at 200 fps on maximum settings on a computer that was mid-range in 2007 and looks incredibly pleasant.

The Bad:
  • All of the jokes and dialogue feels taken out of a bad kids' cartoon. Even the youngest audience would groan and cringe ant the horrible plot, cutscenes and Sam's one liners. The other Serious Sam games were much more tactful in their approach to humor.
  • Invisible walls everywhere, discouraging exploration. Feels like a corridor shooter.
  • The gunplay fees terrible. There is no knockback, recoil or stagger. For most of the guns, you wouldn't be able to tell they're firing if you muted the sound. his is unforgivable for a game where 99% of the gameplay is shooting.
  • Boring secrets containing mostly "treasure" that gives point boosts.
  • Non-scaling HUD that looks pixelated on PC resolutions.
  • Consolized menus with excessive scrolling and bizarre mouse lag.
  • There are no cutscenes in co-op, so the story makes zero sense with players being warped from place to place. I'm not sure if this is a pro or con, since the cutscenes are universally cringeworthy.

This is the worst game in the series, and it's metacritic rating is much higher than it deserves. Don't buy it even on sale unless you have a friend to co-op with.

Hello there everyone. As I am writing a negative review this time, I would like to be serious SAM for a change, and not joke around this time around.

This game has good---EXCELLENT graphics, I must admit, and runs very well on my PC. However, there are a few major downsides I would like to point out.

1. Turning controls. This game is different then most FPS games in a regard, because instead of automaticaly turning around when you move your mouse, there are 2 specific buttons you press to turn your view from right to left. I personally hate it. I am so used to playing other auto-turn games like tf2, that this way of gameplay is super difficult for me. I set the 2 buttons to mouse 4 and mouse 5 to make this easier, but it's still incredibly wierd. Whevever I start getting the hang of it and go "Oh, this is easy enough" and go play some other fps game, by the time I come back I'm completely lost again. arrgh.....I'm a pirate.

2. No trading cards and badges. Really now? Please.

3. You can switch to 3rd person mode, but the shooter is all messed up and I can't aim. So I am forced to stay fp.

Other than these, nothing else so far. 5/10

This game is an embarrassment to Croteam, and to the Serious Sam series as a whole. If you have any common sense you'll skip past this awful game. The graphics are cartoony and unrealistic, your health, armor and ammo are reset EVERY level, the enemies are completely ridiculous and inconsistent, and all the secrets end up getting you killed. Oh, and the difficulty. I had NO trouble beating the First or Second Encounter on Hard, but this game went WAY too far. I found myself dying within the first few levels, mostly because of the moronic way in which they spawn in the enemies. Get ready to fight at least 50 of the same enemy... in all of the "encounters" in every level I've tried. I've only managed to get to the second episode before I couldn't get any farther at all, because the difficulty rises immediatly after the first level ends. They could have attempted to ease you in gradually, but they just decided to turn up the difficulty to max after just the first boss. The only thing I can say I enjoyed about this game was the music. Yep, that's the only redeeming factor to this inexcusible blemish on Croteam's record. Just take the money you would have spent on this vomit and buy the First Encounter or Second Encounter. Don't waste your time with a triviality like this.

Serious Sam 2 is very bad. It's very glitchy, unbalanced, repetitive, and most of all, not fun. Serious Sam 3 and the first Serious Sam might be worth your time, but don't bother with this one. Not even for a dollar.
