Why Early Access?

“We love getting feedback from our fans. Over the years we have made tons of changes to all of our games based on gamer feedback and it has made them much better games. We even try to credit our gamers for their contributions in our patch notes. Note: this will be our 4th game to do Early Access (the first 2 were before Steam itself had Early Access).”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We always strive to release our games when we feel they are done, not on a set timeline. In our past games, Early Access has usually lasted 2 or 3 months. The longest lasted 10 months. Since we are starting this one in alpha (earlier than our usual beta) and the holidays are coming up fast, our best estimate is 6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Making games is a very iterative process. What we are planning on adding might be added, cut, or drastically changed based on what works or doesn't based on your feedback and our own playtesting.

Having said that we are planning on adding many more skins for the player's armor, more models/skins for mutations, more icons for skills, Steam achievements, and tons of little things. There is a huge list of possible gameplay changes and additions that are publicly maintained on our forums at http://www.soldak.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Din's Legacy is currently in alpha. This basically means that all of the main features are already implemented (including everything mentioned in the "About This Game" section), but there is still more artwork and smaller features to be implemented. Also, lots of balance and polish type of work needs to be done.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we get closer and closer to the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We greatly value community feedback. We don't always comment on feedback, but we try to read every single comment that we can on the Steam forums, our own forums, social media, and any other place that we notice them.

We are going to do our best to keep everyone in the loop of how development is going and how feedback is being handled. Our intention is for this to happen in 3 ways. As usual when a patch is released, we plan on posting a list of changes for the patch and mentioning the contributors by name for the relevant changes. Second we will try to keep our full potential todo list posted on our forums (top of http://www.soldak.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41). We also plan on keeping a running public done list so you can see what changes are coming in the next patch.”

Din's Legacy patch 0.901

This patch adds Steam cloud support, improves the graphics in many ways, polishes the UI some, and fixes a bunch of smaller issues.

0.901 change list:

  • added Steam cloud support
  • now calculate needed fov for light shadow map
  • made burned textures much nicer looking (more variety and tile better)
  • increased draw distance a little
  • now any ice damage has chance to leave behind some ice on ground (Bluddy)
  • increased near/far z spread constant from 1000 to 1200 to fix a few places that get cutoff from farZ value
  • no longer allow a clan to start in a shared level
  • now enemies can be knocked into torches, campfires, etc which will destroy them (the fire that is)
  • now fire with sparks shower several sparks around when destroyed
  • now explosion from volcanos that leaves lava also does damage
  • Fury power attack now has some knockback
  • sped up Ice Tower Traps and Fire Tower Traps
  • changed select gold amount in trade menus to have separate gold, silver, and copper input boxes
  • monsters knocked back on ice or oil now slide more
  • scale changes on entities is now animated (Bluddy)
  • added a check to see if glsl extensions supported
  • reworked multiplayer menus a little
  • should no longer spawn Boulder traps above ground (Bluddy)
  • added destroyed effects to monster traps
  • made door breaking effect better
  • now campfires contain sparks

Din's Legacy patch 0.900

This patch improves the shadows quite a bit, fixes an infinite loop, makes the perception stat more useful, and fixes a bunch of smaller issues

0.900 change list:

  • changed shadowing mapping to 2 pass algorithm (instead of 4) - now faster and looks better
  • fixed an infinite loop that can be caused by onBuffSkill and other similar type of things (Destro*)
  • made shadows darker to make things more distinct
  • fixed forking projectiles hitting same enemy multiple times (Someone64/Destro*)
  • fixed duel not spawning an enemy sometimes (Destro*)
  • now a high perception compared to area level can highlight hidden things (secret stashes, traps, illusions, etc)
  • other clans should now survive a little better (Enternight)
  • fixed Fairy Cave using wrong cave file
  • now buying/selling items to other clans when long distance costs player a lot more
  • fixed player sometimes not approaching a nearby target that is slightly out of range
  • turned r_detailModelShadows back on
  • a clan contact is no longer worth anything to another clan that is based in the same level (Destro*)
  • now town alarm for individual monsters is less sensitive (checks position by block instead of level) (Bluddy)
  • decreased spawn chance of blessing objects from 0.2 to 0.1
  • now have a small chance to gain an elemental vulnerability when are killed by that element type
  • added r_shadowStrength so shadow darkness easily controlled
  • added r_shadowMinAlpha to limit how much alphaed surfaces cast shadows
  • fixed elemental vulnerability mutation names
  • changed from Alpha to Beta
  • added a tip about buying/selling items to other clans
  • now if you use hotkey to open the relations menu, see a taunt/diplomatic message, and use hotkey to get back out of menu, it will mark that statement as read (Throwback)

  • fixed bulletin board sometimes using the wrong skin

  • fixed Radioactive and Phased status effects not being forever

About This Game

Din's Legacy is an action RPG with mutating characters, set in a dynamic, evolving, fantasy world for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

During the Orc Schism, the entire Orc race was violently split into Dark Orcs, Zombielords, and the Mutated. The Mutated are tainted with Orc blood, a zombie parasite, and necromancer magic. This makes people seriously mistrust and even fear them. The fact that they slowly mutate over time makes it even worse. Who is going to trust you when you grow horns overnight?

Despite all of this, the Mutated are actually more closely related to the Elves, both their behavior and physically. They want to prove this to the world, but they are facing a tremendous uphill battle.

The trickster god Din was intrigued by their chaotic mutations and burning desire to prove themselves to the world. Always in need of champions, he made a pact with the Mutated. Each volunteer would become one of his champions trying to save the world wherever Din sends them. In return, each time they die in his service he resurrects them to continue their service.

Din's Legacy, as well as the Mutated's and yours, are all in your hands! Can you be the Champion that is needed?
