Psychoanalysis in the game narrative

Typical Nightmare is a psychological horror game that frightens you not with fake blood rivers but with its realism. We wanted to make this game scary – and what can be scarier than real nightmares?

To make the story truly deep, we decided to find out how our dreams were connected to the reality. We used Sigmund Freud’s works about dreams and their interpretation. Moreover, we talked to professional psychologists who told us about typical nightmares people had and how they affected an ordinary person’s life.

These stories are the basis of the Typical Nightmare’s plot. In addition, the unique combination of creepy locations and suspenseful music together with the intriguing story create an intense atmosphere that will make you scared of your own shadow and will keep you in suspense till the end of the game.

As a rule, nightmares are signals about the problems that we can’t bear anymore. But we are too afraid to admit we have them, so we hide these problems deep inside instead of facing our fears and fighting them.

The game will push the protagonist face to face with his nightmares but only you can decide whether he will be able to defeat them or not. Dare to start a really frightening adventure deep

inside the human unconscious. Who knows, maybe, you’ll find there something that keeps YOU from sleeping every night?

“While most of the representatives of the genre rely on jump scares, it's nice that Typical Nightmare tries to impress with what we liked about old school horror games so much.”
