What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Hi, Fat Dog Games here, the publisher of Apparition. We originally wanted to release the game completely on Halloween, but the reality is Apparition will require more work. Our goals for Early Access:
1. We'd like to check if the gameplay mechanics are clear enough for gamers. Any bug reports would be appreciated too.
2. We're going to add a story layer to Apparition (i.e., notes scattered around the place) and we are eager to hear the audience's feedback.
3. To do a console port of Apparition, we need to rewrite large portions of the game's code. We're going to give gamers access for this build too, and we'll be waiting for bug reports and general feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Two to three months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're going to add several in-game notes left by persons who visited Green Creek forest in the past. Through these notes, gamers will be able to uncover the tragic origin story if this haunted place. We're also going to add more languages to the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is almost finished. It has one gameplay mode, one gameplay environment, and all the ghost and demon mechanics.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“To appreciate people's help, we'll set Early Access price lower than the retail price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We're going to use the Steam forum to talk with gamers about Apparition and to react to their feedback swiftly.”

Game Mechanics (Part 1)

Let's talk about the game’s mechanics,

Apparition isn’t your typical game, showing you the mechanics first, then telling you: go, explore a series of levels. Here, things are turned around: there is one location - the forest of Green Creek - it’s immediately available, and it’s the mechanics that await discovery. Specifically, how to summon a demon from the woods and survive an encounter with it.

The primary objective of Apparition is gathering points which you receive for photographing and filming evidence of the disturbing history of Green Creek, ghosts, and demons. That, and surviving, of course, if you want to keep your points, you will have to make it back to your car and drive away to safety.

In the first layer of gameplay, you die quickly and often. You return to the forest of Green Creek to try again and maybe live a little longer. You come to the forest at night, earning your first points by filming or photographing disturbing things in and around the cabin. You speak to spirits using the Ouija board and… you hear footsteps in the woods. A demon. By the time you see it, it’s already running at you, and your end is swift. The demons cannot be fought; you can make a desperate attempt at running, or remain unseen.

Perhaps you will find some way to outwit the demon on your next visit.

About This Game

First-person survival horror with ghosts, demons and Spirit Board. Set in a fictional, haunted American forest, Green Creek.

During the night in the forest, you fight for more evidence of the existence of ghosts and for your own life.

Speak with the dead with a Spirit Board. Use your camera and audio recorder to register them, putting yourself in dire risk. There’s no defense against the ghosts or demons other than hiding.

The more traces of ghosts you record, the more points you earn. Use them to upgrade your gear and access new places. But you have to get out alive to keep them.
