Why Early Access?

“We see Deep Sky Derelicts as a very gameplay-centric title with a rich mixture of simple, yet deep core mechanics and a high replay value. Now, as we implemented all the basic gameplay mechanics into it, we need your help and feedback to make sure that the mechanics are deep and interesting enough and that the overall gameplay always feels gripping, varied and challenging in Deep Sky Derelicts. Therefore, we chose to enter Steam Early Access program in October 2017 and would like to invite you to join us on this final part of the journey toward the dream game as we and hopefully you see it. We believe that only with real players involved in the final stages of game design and balancing Deep Sky Derelicts could reach the quality of gameplay it deserves after all the accolades and praises it received for its refined art-style and storytelling. Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Ten to eleven months, we plan to finish the game at the end of September 2018”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Deep Sky Derelicts will offer a complete and polished gaming experience which is largely tailored to the tastes of the players' community and fine tuned based on EA users' feedback and suggestions. More specifically, the full version of the game will include the full-length (10-20 hours) campaign mode with a complete game story unfolding as you explore the Deep Sky Derelicts world. In addition to that it will also feature a hardcore difficulty mode and increased customization possibilities for player characters' creation. Steam achievements and trading cards will be also added to the game at the time of full release, along with the Mac and Linux support.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of Deep Sky Derelicts doesn't represent its final, intended quality in many respects, but reflects a rather actual work-in-progress state of the product. That said, we will make out best to ensure that even the EA version has no game breaking bugs or completely broken mechanics, as we realize that high standard of player experince is crucial at any stage of the project. To create additional appeal for our EA players, we also decided to add an 'Arena' mode that is basically a sequence of tactical battle encounters of gradually increasing difficulty to be overcome with a pre-set squad of characters. We hope that introduction of this combat-oriented mode will come to taste for the players who love challenge and tactical fights, while simultaneously creating a more intense and focused and hence efficient playground for trying out new and changed combat mechanics, character builds and individual cards.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, Deep Sky Derelicts is offered for a lower price during the Early Access phase. We will increase the price for the full version release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We hope the Community to play the key role in shaping many of the mechanics and elements of Deep Sky Derelicts. We are set to go through every review, every suggestion and every single comment by the players, looking to further improve the game with the aid of their feedback. We are generally open to communicating with our users on multiple channels, but to keep it more organized and focused we will prefer Deep Sky Derelicts Steam Discussion forums as our primary communication platform both during Early Access stage and thereafter.”

Update 0.6 aka "Monolithic Remnants" is out NOW!

Hey Scavengers,

we know that it took a bit longer but trust me the wait was worth it!

We present to you the Monolithic Remnats update!

New enemies, new quests, new equipment extentions, new ship layouts, raised level cap and much MUCH MORE!

Here is the changelog:

- Character level cap raised to 9. New abilities for levels 7-9 are available.
- New ship layouts.
- New enemies: Amoebas (Soulmorph, Rockmorph and Crystalmorph) and Tyrant.
- More quests
- Crew inventory size can be upgraded in the research workshop.
- New equipment extensions
- The name of the derelict you are currently exploring is now shown on the map.
- Added a tooltip to the XP bar on the character screen showing the current experience points and points needed for the next level.
- A combat log has been added. You can expand and browse the log during combat, and hover over the units or cards to see what happened.
- A codex is now available in the pause menu. This is still a work in progress, but you can browse the different card mechanics.
- You can access more detailed information about character classes and abilities when creating the crew.
- Two new trap types added.

- Game progression has been adjusted to throw stuff at you in more digestible portions - fewer ships are available to start with, but more are unlocked as soon as you find some location data.
- Some additional landing zones and hazard zones have been added to ship layouts.
- A trade window has been added for NPCs that have items for sale.
- Added a bit of animation to show newly unlocked ships on the starmap.
- When moving several tiles at a time, the movement animation gradually gets faster after a couple of tiles.
- The camera now tries to keep the crew icon visible when moving on the map, and you can scroll the map while moving.
- Combat UI changes: The energy display is now next to Boost and End Turn buttons, and the Retreat button has been moved to the left side.
- The card selector panel used for drawing or discarding cards is now more descriptive.
- Drawing cards due to an ability or other card is shown with a brief animation.
- Fast Deployment now moves the new unit to its correct place in the current round based on its initiative (or right after the owner, if the initiative is higher).
- You can click on equipment in the crew inventory to pin the item details to the screen and browse the cards. Click again to unfocus. Energy cells are now used with a double click.
- Unvisited derelicts are colored on the starmap screen according to their difficulty based on the crew level.
- Updated game settings UI to fit the overall style.
- Tracking Shot: Shot is 100% Accurate.
- Adding Evasion to Mark The Target card.
- Scrapper: Expert Tool User - ability to Team Preparation. Update Scrapper Manufacture to copy a card from hand. Add Adaptive Tactics -ability.

- Fixed Talk button being visible when a conversation was restarted without exiting the room.
- Fixed some equipment modifiers getting incorrect effect values when a status effect was also generated on the same item.
- Fixed a bug that could result in some "chance of X" equipment modifiers (elemental effects, ability lock, explosive shots and bleed) not working properly.
- Fixed combat bugs with the Leader/Distraction ability and a potential bug with Leader/Unrelenting.
- Fixed combat issues that could occur after loading a save in the middle of combat.
- Fixed an error that could happen when generating loot with the Fast Deployment modifier.
- Enemies aren't scared of loot tiles anymore and can move over them.
- Recharging Pulse. Prevent from freezing the combat.
- Use the death pose for units hit by Lethal attacks.
- Fixed Hazard Protection not working when trying to restore shields or health in radiated rooms.
- Fixed missing room graphics in locked tiles.
- Fixed a map generation bug where locked tiles could prevent progress in some situations.

0.5.1 Hotfix is live!

Hey Scavengers,

we just released a hotfix that fixes a fex things that we didnt catch for the 0.5 update.

Here is the changelog:

- Fixed an issue that could cause the game to freeze when trying to clear debris.
- Can't anymore receive 2 Astrospheres from the console with a dormant Necroguard guarding it.
- Fixed missing comic panel effects for tripwire and radiation traps.
- Fixed scanner details spoiling the Talking Floor quest.
- Fixed a rare issue where you could not use an energy cell from the inventory after looting.

About This Game

In a grim dystopian future, where mankind has scattered across the galaxy and the human society has split into two distinct classes, you are a poor stateless outcast forced to live off scraps from derelict alien stations and ships in the outer space, yet you dream of becoming a privileged citizen and living on the surface of a habitable planet, enjoying non-synthetic air, water and food. A fabled alien derelict ship somewhere within the Deep Sky sector of space is your voucher for a citizenship and a promise of cozy life on a hospitable planet.

Build and control a squad of up to three mercenary characters and set on to explore derelict ships within your reach from the scavenger's base. Searching the derelicts for loot and clues, you come across many friendly inhabitants and traders, but more often – various enemies. Challenge and defeat them in tactical turn-based fights, where randomly-drawn cards form your changing arsenal of combat actions, gain experience for yourself and your crew, loot dead bodies, resupply and upgrade once back at your base. The scavenger's home ship gives you the opportunity to heal and level-up your mercenaries, recruit new ones, equip them, upgrade their gear or recharge energy for life support during missions.
