About This Game

Mend is a calm fly-fishing game set on real rivers of the Canadian Rockies. Every reach is built from real elevation data, real river paths and real flows: the riffles, pools, seams and log jams sit where they do on the actual water. Find the fish, read the current, and put a fly in front of them with a drift so natural they can't refuse it.

  • The cast meter. Three clicks: start, power, accuracy. Power sets how much line lands straight and how much falls as slack, and the slack is what buys you a drift.

  • The mend. The current pulls your line, and the fly starts to drag. Hold, point and release to flip the line upstream and keep the fly drifting free. Time it right for a perfect mend.

  • Dries, nymphs and streamers. Fish a dry on the surface, a nymph under an indicator, or strip a streamer through the deep water. Tie your own flies at camp.

  • The take and the fight. Watch for the rise, set the hook, then play the fish: rod angle, line, reel and drag.

Fish 23 rivers across two regions: Alberta's Eastern Slopes and British Columbia's Kootenays. A calendar moves through the seasons, with weather rolled for each day and place: chinook winds, clouds, rain, snow and shore ice. Hatches come off the water, and the fish rise to them. Rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout, bull trout, mountain whitefish and the cutbow each hold where their real cousins hold. Watch for the osprey, the otters, and the moose wading across upstream.

Every fish you land is a photo. Frame it well, keep it wet, and let it go. Dale posts your best shots on his fishing channel, Trout Clout, and your photos pay. Spend it at Earl's camp shop on gear, licences and fly-tying materials, buy feathers from Walt, and drive the back roads to new water. One day, maybe, the old fly shop in the Crowsnest Pass could be yours.

  • Earl's lesson: a gentle tutorial for brand-new fly anglers and for old hands

  • A campaign, Free Fish and Free Play modes

  • Normal for a relaxing day out, Realism for warier fish

  • Online multiplayer for up to 4 anglers: race for the biggest fish or the most fish

  • Bird photography, a fishing journal, and a guide to fly fishing

  • Steam Achievements and leaderboards for the biggest fish of every river and species

  • Full controller support

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Mend's narrator and the characters' voices are made with AI text-to-speech. The narrator is a synthetic voice and does not imitate any real person, and the characters speak an invented gibberish language. Much of the game's text (the dialogue, the in-game fly-fishing guide and the store description) was written with the help of an AI assistant, then reviewed and edited by the developer. No AI image generators were used: the 3D world, the characters and the store art are made procedurally by the game's own code from real elevation and river data. The bird calls and river sounds are real field recordings. Mend's menu music was composed with an AI music tool.
