What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early access lets us build By the Coast, letting us build the features that our players want most while supporting the studio's long term sustainability.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect By the Coast to remain in Early Access for roughly 6-12 months depending on community feedback and scope.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the building tools, introduce more landscapes, deepen village life with additional wildlife and residents. And then continue improving the game's visuals, performance, and overall experience based on community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version offers the core village building experience including cottage construction, terrain sculpting, landscaping and a living village with residents and wildlife. We'll continue expanding and refining these features throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to offer By the Coast at a lower price during Early Access, with a possible price increase as the game grows and approaches its full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to involve the community through Steam Discussions, player suggestions, and regular development updates. Players will help guide our priorities as we expand and refine By the Coast throughout Early Access.”

About This Game

Build a beautiful coastal village, then watch it come to life.

By the Coast is a relaxed creative sandbox where you shape seaside villages along a coast. Place cottages, sculpt the landscape, wind paths through your village. Then sit back and watch it come to life.

Shape your village by the sea

Begin with an editable coastal settlement or a blank landscape. Reshape cottages, pull out new wings, change rooflines, or raise stone walls along the slope. Adapt houses to uneven ground or anchor rooms on brackets against the cliff face. Raise, lower, smooth and flatten the terrain to frame your views, and paint winding lanes between the homes. The painterly style gives the feel of a living illustration.

Watch the village come to life

What you build shapes who lives here. When you create an accessible new cottage, an arriving household may move in—a single neighbour, a couple, or a family with children. As you add homes and workshops, people move in and start using them. No management required. A bakery opening at dawn, a cheerful afternoon tea room, or an evening pub. Nearby businesses give villagers places to work and destinations for daily errands.

Everyday seaside moments

Pause and let the village breathe at its own rhythm. Fishermen work at the net racks by the quay, schoolchildren walk together in the morning and play near home in the afternoon, and Sunday brings neighbours to chapel. Dogs follow their owners on errands and wait outside shops; cats curl up on low stone walls and sunlit window sills. Most mornings a pack pony carries the day's catch up the bank, while gulls and seabirds settle on rooftops and cliff ledges.

Notice, tweak, and linger

Changing weather, shifting tides and the turn of the seasons transform the coast. Rain brings out umbrellas and sends villagers to the warmth of the pub; evening fills cottage windows with lamplight; winter dusts the roofs with snow and freezes sea spray along the shore. Notice a lane you want to redirect, a roof you want to raise, or a new terrace overlooking the surf. There are no timers, currencies or villager needs to manage—just the quiet satisfaction of making a place, watching it thrive, and coming back for one more small change.

  • Build and reshape freeform cottages, adjoining rooms, roofs and stonework.

  • Sculpt coastal slopes, terraces and beaches, and draw winding paths.

  • Start with an editable seaside village or create from an open landscape.

  • Watch households move into the homes you build and make them their own.

  • Observe daily routines: fishermen at the nets, school walks, local shops, and evening pub visits.

  • Meet domestic companions and coastal wildlife: cats, dogs, ponies, seabirds, and more.

  • Experience shifting tides, rain, evening lamplight, and changing seasons.

  • Enjoy a peaceful creative sandbox with no timers, economy, or objectives to manage.
