What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Greyline is made by one person, in my free time, and I'm in it for the long haul. The goal is a hardcore survival game with several maps, deeper survival, crafting, and an end game worth working toward. Early Access lets people play it now, while it's being built, so the rest is shaped by how players actually play instead of my guesses. I'm committed to keep working on it, listen to feedback, and see it through to a full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 18 months. As one developer working in my free time, I'd rather take longer and get it right than rush it, so treat that as an estimate. If it changes, I'll say so.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to add more maps, crafting and cooking, an end game worth working toward, and more weapons, gear and infected. Everything that's in now will keep getting polished along the way.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Calder Island, the first map, is fully playable with up to 80 players per server. You can scavenge, fight, get hurt and patch yourself up, and team up with or turn on other players. Expect rough edges and bugs: this is one person's work in progress.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I'm not planning to change the price when Greyline leaves Early Access. If that ever changes, I'll say so well before it happens.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players decide what gets worked on next. The problems people run into most get fixed first, and requests that keep coming up go into the plan. The main place to reach me is the official Greyline Discord: there's a /bug command that files reports straight into a bug-reports channel, and a changelog channel with notes for every update. I read and answer there myself, and I read the Steam forums too.”

About This Game

Nobody Is Coming

Greyline is a hardcore multiplayer survival game. You wake up with nothing and one goal: stay alive. No quests, no one telling you where to go. What happens next is up to you.

Why Greyline?

Out here, nothing is black and white. Every survivor walks the grey line between helping and taking, trusting and shooting first. Which side you end up on is your call.

No Markers, No Hand-Holding

No quest arrows, no minimap. Find your way with a compass and what you remember of the roads. Everything you need has to be found, and the next house might have nothing in it at all.

Calder Island

The first of many maps. Farms, towns, forests and military bases, and a base buried in snow high in the mountains. When night falls it gets truly dark, and your light is the first thing anyone sees.

Stay Alive

Hunger, thirst and cold will wear you down. Get hurt and you'll bleed, limp or black out. Patch yourself up with whatever you've found and hope it's enough.

The Infected

The outbreak got here first. The infected crowd the towns and bases, and one gunshot can bring a whole street down on you. Sometimes the smartest move is not to fight at all.

Friend or Foe

Up to 80 players share the server with you. Some will help you up when you go down. Some will want your boots.

Gear That Matters

Every gun, every round and every piece of kit was looted, fought for or taken from someone else. You can lose all of it in a second.

One Developer. His Free Time.

Greyline is made entirely by one person, in his free time. No studio, no publisher, no team behind the curtain. Just one guy building the survival game he wants to play. It's Early Access, so expect rough edges, and expect it to keep getting better. Jump in now and you're one of the first people to set foot on the island.

It won't be easy. Nobody is coming. This is Greyline.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Greyline is a realistic multiplayer survival shooter. It contains content that may not be suitable for all players. Greyline contains killing with weapons and melee combat.
