About This Game

Take a seat. The spirits are dealing.

The bathhouse after midnight. Thick steam, one candle, and something across the table that wants to play Durak. It cheats. You can cheat too, as long as nobody is looking. Unclean Hands is a PS1-style horror card game about catching liars, lying well, and paying for both with your own fingers.

Durak is the classic Russian card game: 36 cards, beat each attack with a higher card of the same suit or a trump, or pick the cards up. Whoever is left holding cards is the fool.

They cheat. Catch them.

Every spirit has its own trick. The Bannik slips a false card into the beaten pile through the steam. The Kikimora throws a card from her sleeve. Baba Yaga swaps the trump card under the deck while her black cat watches you. Spot it, hit GOTCHA!, and the spirit pays. Call it wrong and you pay.

Cheat back.

When the spirit turns away, a bar runs down over the table: that is your window.
  • Hide a card in the birch broom for later
  • Throw in a card of the wrong rank
  • Beat an attack with the wrong card
Hold the button and the card slides across the table. Too slow, or seen, and you lose a finger.

One night at a time.

A night is three tables in a row: the Bannik, the Kikimora, Baba Yaga. A night takes about 20–30 minutes. Between tables you pick one of 20 amulets, and the steam closes one wound. Win a night and a harder one opens: eight nights from the Ordinary Night to the Devil's Night, each with one new rule. On the Devil's Night the Devil-banker waits at a fourth table.

With friends.

Up to four friends sit at the same table through Steam. The spirit cheats against everyone, and anyone can call GOTCHA on anyone, including each other.
