About This Game

Something in the fridge has gone very wrong.

The milk expired, the mold is organized, and the Jello has a king. You are a pickle with a fork.
Leftovers is a fast, chunky, top-down arena survivors roguelike, built from the ground up for couch and online play. Twenty waves stand between you and a clean fridge. Every wave is a fight, every break is a decision, and every run ends with a build you did not see coming.

43 characters, no two alike

Every food breaks a rule. The Hot Sauce sets everything on fire. The Jelly Donut is enormous and sprays jam. The Last Dumpling only ever holds one weapon — and makes it hit like a truck. The Dry Cracker never heals. Knuckle Sandwich refuses weapons altogether and fights with bread knuckles. Pick a class on top (Treasurer, Bouncer, Medic, Scout, Striker, Engineer), specialize at wave 5 into one of 25 specializations, and switch on the synergy that only your class can reach.

Build something stupid

  • 37 weapons in seven sets — cutlery, bare hands, bakeware, condiments, snacks, appliances and gadgets. Forks, whisks, oven mitts, toast cannons, pea snipers, a bananarang.
  • Gadgets. Fill your slots with turrets, popcorn mines, robot vacuums and first-aid drones instead of weapons. They pile up around the room while you run, and 16 gadget items make them shoot more, blow up bigger and heal harder.
  • Combine to tier up. Two of the same weapon fuse into a stronger one. No shortcuts.
  • 37 evolutions, one for every weapon. Feed a top-tier weapon the right catalyst and burn a few legendaries, and the Toast Cannon becomes the Breakfast Battery.
  • 189 items, 23 synergies that turn on when the right things meet, plus stat-scaling items that grow with the build you are already making.
  • Area, ultimates, auras. Explosions get bigger, ults get louder, and the Bouncer's garlic aura gets rude.

Fourteen ways to play

Together (1–4 players)
  • The Classic Run — twenty waves, two bosses, a shop after every wave.
  • Last Fridge Standing — the fridge sits in the middle of the arena and every germ wants in. Body-block, taunt, buy repairs and an ice turret. If the fridge falls, the run is over.
  • Potluck — before every shop the team shares one table of free dishes and drafts them in turn. Two picks each, and any dish can go to a friend.
  • Dinner Service — every wave the kitchen posts three orders. Fill one and it pays on the spot; fill all three and the wave ends early, with a tip on top.
  • Expiry Date — you are going off. A little of your Max HP rots away after every wave, and the crumbs pay better: spend them before they go off too.
  • Shelf Life — ten waves, one boss. Every wave card you take sticks to that character for good, run after run, until a win wipes the shelf clean.
  • Fridge Master (2–4 players) — one of you is the fridge: no weapons, no shop, and a hand of cards that drops enemies, burners and fog on the cooks.
Against each other (2–4 players)
  • Dinner Rush — everyone fights the same horde and the best cook wins. Nobody can hurt anybody, but a Spawn Burst dropped on the player in front of you is fair game.
  • Pie Fight — everyone fights their own wave. Your kills spill onto a rival's plate. Two lives each, and the last cook standing wins.
  • Takeout Orders — the same own-wave duel, but the enemies are bought in the shop and delivered to the rival with the most lives.
  • Top Burner — one glowing burner, one cook on it at a time. Shots and swings shove rivals off it without hurting them. First to 120 points wins.
  • Kitchen Crews — two crews, one horde, one kitchen. Rivals' shots and swings really hurt, your own crew is safe, and the last crew with a cook standing wins.
  • Cook-Off — build together for three waves, then meet one on one in a small kitchen while the horde piles in. Best of three, or a bracket. Duel damage is scaled to your build, so the fight is about skill.
On your own
  • Ghost Kitchen — every run leaves a ghost of your build behind. Fight your own old builds, a friend's (paste their code) or the Ghost of the Day. Nobody else needs to be online.
Win with a character in Classic, Last Fridge Standing and Potluck and it turns golden.

Between the waves, the fridge gets a vote

After every wave the whole team votes on a wave card: a permanent buff for the enemies, a permanent reward for you. Then you choose a door — a horde, a treasure room, a shrine that wants a quarter of your health, a cursed door that hands out relics and regrets, the traveling raccoon merchant. Take a contract if you fancy a side bet. Bosses drop blessings. Cursed doors drop curses. Everything you take stays for the run, and the game shows you exactly what you just picked up before it lets you move on.

Made for playing together

  • 1–4 players, couch or online: a lobby browser, Join Random, Steam invites and codes, LAN games found by themselves.
  • Host with a name and a password, and let friends drop in mid-run: they come in at the next shop with money to catch up.
  • Any mix of keyboard, mouse and controllers on one PC — each player chooses their input when they join.
  • Revive your friends, land team combos, argue about the door.
  • Enemy numbers, health and crumb payouts scale with the head count.

It keeps changing

  • 48 kitchens — the Fridge Shelf, the Deep Freezer, the Oven, the Microwave, the Barbecue Grill and more, plus 24 holiday kitchens that take over in the month of Valentine's Day, Easter, the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas — each with 14 layouts and its own hazards.
  • Eight bosses, six mini-bosses, 66 enemy types, 15 wave mutators that stack in Endless. The bosses come out of a shuffled deck, so you meet them all before any comes back.
  • 36 contracts, 38 blessings, 27 curses, 23 doors, 28 events, 69 achievements.
  • A pantry of 54 permanent upgrades with three saveable loadouts, per-character mastery perks and skins, a difficulty ladder with no top, victory borders, and Endless mode (save any run and carry on later, solo or with the same group).
  • Ready-made runs: hit RANDOM in the lobby and find out who you are when the wave starts.

How it was made

Every sprite, sound and note was made for this game: no asset packs, no stock music. The game's code was written with an AI coding assistant. The art and the audio come from generator programs (vector drawing and sound synthesis) written with that assistant under the developer's direction; no image- or audio-generation models were used. The in-game text was written by the developer, and the translations were made with an AI assistant.

Good to know

  • Photosensitivity: This game contains flashing lights and fast-moving patterns that may trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Reduce flashing and Screen shake can be turned on under Options > Accessibility.
  • Privacy: The developer collects no data. In online games your Steam name, Steam ID and a random install ID are shared with the host to match saved runs.
  • Languages: the 11 translations (everything but English) were made with an AI assistant. If a line reads oddly, tell us on the Steam discussions.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The game's code was written with an AI coding assistant. The sprites, icons, music and sound effects are produced by generator programs (vector drawing and audio synthesis) that were written with that assistant under the developer's direction; no image- or audio-generation models were used. In-game text was written and edited by the developer; the translations into 11 languages were made with an AI assistant. The store capsules and achievement icons are assembled from that same game art by script. No AI runs while the game is played.
