What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The story and the management of Spring Breeze Shokudo are already complete: you can play from coming home in the summer of 1978 all the way to Lunar New Year's Day. We want to listen to players while we fine-tune the management feel and difficulty, and at the same time add mobile play with cloud sync, controller and Steam Deck support, and more dishes and street stories.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 3 to 6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is the complete, polished story, adding:
- A mobile browser version with cloud sync (buy once on Steam, play on both PC and phone)
- More dishes, customers and street events
- Management feel and difficulty tuned from Early Access feedback
- Controller and Steam Deck support

The story of Sin-kang-á Street isn't over: we have plans for a second chapter, but it is not part of this release. We will announce it separately after the full version is out.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable from start to finish: coming home and reopening in the summer of 1978, the banquet contest at the Ghost Festival, all the way to Lunar New Year's Day, about 170 in-game days. 22 dishes, 5 staff, the stories of 7 regulars and 47 achievements. There are no known progression-blocking issues, and the game saves automatically every night at closing. Currently available in Traditional and Simplified Chinese only.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The Early Access price is lower than the full version's, and the price will be adjusted when the full version launches.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The Steam discussion forums are our main feedback channel, and we read every report. Each update will come with a Steam announcement that explains what changed and which feedback it came from.”

This game is currently available in Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese only (interface and all text). English and Japanese will be considered after the 1.0 release.

Pull up the shutters on your grandmother's shokudo

Summer, 1978. A midnight phone call brings you back from a Taipei factory dorm to Sin-kang-á Street, a small town in southern Taiwan. Your grandmother has collapsed in the kitchen, and the rolling shutters of the Spring Breeze Shokudo (a neighbourhood eatery; Taiwan kept the word from the Japanese era) have been down for six months. Across the street, the brand-new Golden Dragon Grand Restaurant has just switched on its neon.

Run a little shokudo that breathes

  • Shop the morning market with Grandma's handwritten list. Fresh food spoils overnight, and vendors who know you give you a better price.
  • Set the menu and the prices, swap today's special mid-service, limit portions. Sell the same dish too often and the town gets tired of it.
  • Develop new dishes with Chef A-Ming: tan-tsai noodles, bah-oân, milkfish congee, crab sticky rice… 22 dishes in all. Some wait for their season, some need new equipment.
  • Take takeaway, reservation and delivery orders, and handle complaints. The food critic comes in disguise.
  • Hire staff and give them posts: waiting tables, bussing, greeting at the arcade, helping in the kitchen, delivery. Tired staff make mistakes, so let them rest in the quiet afternoon.
  • Place tables and decorations, expand the shop, and finally knock through into the corner store next door.

The Golden Dragon across the street

The Golden Dragon fights back with business lunches, free air-conditioning, nakashi nights… You can watch customers on the street get pulled across the road one by one. When Grandma sees the red notice in the morning, do you hand out flyers, throw in a free braised egg, or just keep cooking your own food? It all comes down to the banquet contest at the Ghost Festival.

Life on the whole street

Afternoon thunderstorms, typhoon blackouts, earthquakes; the City God procession, Mid-Autumn moon-viewing, the year-end banquet, Lunar New Year's Eve. The garbage truck rolls down the lane playing Für Elise, and the bah-tsàng seller pedals past your door. Seven regulars tell you a little more of their stories each visit, and evening chats with your staff go deeper as you grow closer.

No Game Over when money runs out

When you can't even afford tomorrow's ingredients, Grandma brings out the gold bracelet Grandpa gave her. This is a story about coming home, and about the kindness of one street.

About Early Access

The story can already be played from start to finish: from coming home to Sin-kang-á Street in the summer of 1978 all the way to Lunar New Year's Day. During Early Access we will add:
  • Play on your phone: buy once on Steam, sign in with Steam in your phone's browser and keep playing with synced progress
  • More dishes, customers and street stories
  • Tuning of the management feel and difficulty based on player feedback
  • Controller and Steam Deck support

Free demo

The demo covers the first five days. Your shop carries over to the full game, which picks up from day six.

Art and music

All pixel art is drawn by the game's code in real time. The music is synthesized live by a pentatonic composer (yueqin, erhu, dizi, suona and accordion) and shifts with the time of day, the weather and how busy the shop is.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some of the in-game text (dialogue and descriptions) was written with the help of AI and reviewed and edited line by line by the developer. All pixel art and music are drawn and synthesized in real time by the game's own code, which was written with AI assistance; no AI image or audio generation models were used.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Set in a small Taiwanese town in 1978, the story includes local gangsters demanding protection money and smashing up the shop (no blood or gore), pickpockets, counterfeit bills, customers who skip the bill, drunk customers, smoking and drinking rice wine. Players can buy a period lottery ticket from a street vendor with in-game money. There is no real-money transaction or gambling of any kind.
