A scare-your-friends asymmetrical horror game where one of you is the indeterminate. Survivors gather evidence to work out what it is and banish it with a ritual, while the indeterminate turns anomalies, traps and jump scares against them, or catches them off guard and kills them.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Indeterminate is playable from start to finish today, but it is an asymmetric multiplayer horror game, and games like this can only be balanced properly by being played by many real groups. We are launching in Early Access so we can tune the Indeterminates, survivors, perks and evidence alongside the people playing, and find and fix the bugs that only show up in real matches, while we continue building toward the full release.

Our goals during Early Access are to:
- Balance every Indeterminate and survivor using player feedback
- Build the campaign story mode
- Expand the roster of Indeterminates and add more intricate, map-specific puzzles
- Improve stability, performance and the single-player experience

We intend to keep developing Indeterminate through to its full release, reading feedback and releasing regular updates throughout Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last until around early 2027, though this may change based on community feedback and how development progresses.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add:
- A full campaign story mode
- More Indeterminates, with the goal of bringing the roster to 10
- More intricate, map-specific puzzles
- A more capable AI killer for single player
- Ongoing balance changes, bug fixes and performance improvements shaped by community feedback

These plans may change as we learn from players during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version has complete, playable matches in both online multiplayer and single player:
- 9 playable Indeterminates, each with its own abilities, forms and kills: Banshee, Beast, Entity, Intruder, Pestilence, Psychopath, Shade and Witch
- 4 playable survivors, each with unique abilities: Edwin, Jessica, Jane and Patrick Varga
- 3 maps: The Holmes Estate, Father Joseph's Grounds and the Abandoned Asylum
- Survivor objective: gather evidence with tools such as cameras and sound sensors, record it in your journal, identify the Indeterminate hunting you and perform the banishment ritual
- Killer progression: the Indeterminate Powers perk tree with savable loadouts, and an ability wheel
- Online multiplayer for up to 8 players, with public and private lobbies, proximity voice chat and spectating
- Single player: play as a survivor against an AI-controlled Indeterminate. This mode is basic for now; the AI follows simpler behavior than a human killer and does not use the perk tree
- A tutorial
- Dynamic weather (rain and fog) and usable in-game computers
- Interface translated into 9 languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Korean and Japanese. Voiced lines are English only.

The campaign is not yet available, balance is still being tuned, and you may run into bugs.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We're not planning on changing the price when we leave Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will directly shape development throughout Early Access. Feedback from the Steam discussion forums (and our Discord) will guide balance changes to the Indeterminates and survivors, how much agency the killer has, and which features we work on first. Player bug reports will help us find and fix problems quickly, and we plan to post regular updates explaining what has changed and why.”

About This Game

Indeterminate is a multiplayer, asymmetrical psychological horror game made with one goal in mind: scaring your friends. You play as either one of the survivors, or as the indeterminate.

Survivors are met with the daunting task of discovering who the indeterminate is. Every indeterminate leaves its own trail of evidence behind: freezing or burning temperatures, spikes in electromagnetic activity, a heartbeat that slows for no reason, sounds that shouldn't be there, and things that only show up on camera. Log every clue in your journal, rule out the suspects one by one, and once you're sure of what you're dealing with, gather the ritual items needed to perform a banishment ritual on the suspected indeterminate. Just make sure you suspected right.

During this time, survivors must unlock doors throughout the facility and operate under the constant pressure of the traps and jump scares the indeterminate leaves behind. Every scare chips away at your sanity, and with proximity voice chat, you'll hear your friends screaming through the walls, or worse, you won't hear them at all.

The indeterminate must sabotage the survivors' investigation by any means necessary. Spawn anomalies that eat away at their sanity, set indeterminate‑specific traps and ambushes, or catch a victim off guard and kill them straight away. Each indeterminate has its own powers and its own tells, so no two hunts feel quite the same.

There are also a few different ways the indeterminate can choose to play their game. Become a shape‑shifter and hide in plain sight in human form. Hunt with a vendetta, condemning a single survivor and making them your personal target. Or be a saboteur, cutting the power and turning the building itself against them. Every approach changes how a match unfolds, creating a dynamic experience where the survivors can never be sure what's coming next.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Indeterminate is a horror game with frequent violence and intense scares. Killers hunt survivors and kill them with weapons such as an axe or machete, or with their bare hands. Kills play out as brutal execution animations, including stabbing, impalement, strangling and a head smash, with blood effects. The game has frequent jump scares with loud sounds, monsters, and disturbing imagery. It uses flickering lights, static and screen distortion effects that may affect players with photosensitivity. Themes include occult rituals, demons, religious imagery, and a psychiatric asylum setting with psychological distress. There is no sexual content, nudity, drug or alcohol abuse, or self-harm. Online matches include proximity voice chat between players, which is not moderated.
