About This Game

Only few people ever ended up in the Backrooms.

Even fewer made it out to tell the tale.

Backrooms Open World is an attempt to recreate the Backrooms as realistically as possible; This includes atmospheric environments, the opportunity for social interactions, a physics-based melee combat system, a faction system and much more.

This game contains an integrated asynchronous Massively Multiplayer mode (currently supporting up to 100 players on one server), but there is still an option to play in Single Player mode or in private Lobbies with friends.

Since this is an Open World game, there are no predefined goals which means you can do whatever you want. A few examples would be:

  • Escaping the Backrooms

  • Wandering around

  • Fighting players from rival factions

  • Talking with other Backroom fans :)

  • Motion Blur & VHS can be toggled off in Settings

  • A VSync option is available

  • There is a key binding for toggling VR mode that allows you to switch between VR and non-VR mid-game

  • This project has been in development since January 2026
