About This Game

War begins long before the first blow.

Slavlands: Tribes at War is a real-time strategy game set in the early medieval Slavic lands of the 9th–10th century. Raise a fortified gord, keep its people fed and warm, and lead your warband through forests, fords and mountain passes — where a hungry army is a beaten army.

Prepare, or perish

  • Your army eats. Load supply wagons, hide food caches in the woods and build field camps — or watch your warriors desert.
  • Send scouts ahead, find the enemy's caches and burn them. A starving enemy will not fight.
  • Set ambushes from the bushes — camouflage takes time, so plan ahead. Strike in the morning mist, catch a column strung out on a narrow bridge.
  • Brew battle potions: your herbalist brings out the cauldron and your warriors line up before the fight.

A settlement that truly works

  • Assign your people to trades — woodcutters, farmers, fishermen, smiths, herbalists — and watch them grow better at what they do.
  • The best soil lies far from your walls. Found hamlets with farms on fertile land, lay roads where your porters walk and bring the harvest home by wagon.
  • Sell your surplus at the marketplace for amber and spend it on your warriors' skills.
  • Smelt bog iron in a bloomery, forge weapons and armour, tend fields strip by strip and bring the harvest in before winter.
  • Live through day, night and the seasons: snow piles up, rivers freeze, winter hunger tests every settlement.
  • Dig ditches and raise earthworks, bridge rivers, build palisades, gates and watchtowers.

The people choose their prince

  • There is no fixed hero. When your prince falls, the people gather at the fire and choose a new one — a veteran warrior, an officer, even a peasant or a herbalist.
  • Warriors have names, levels and skills. Carry the wounded from the field, bring your fallen champions home and honour them with a burial mound.
  • Faith without visible gods: hold the sacred groves and hilltops, bring gifts on feast days — and never be quite sure whether it was the gods, or just luck.

Play your way

  • A step-by-step tutorial in ten chapters — from the first hut to your first victorious expedition.
  • Skirmishes against an AI on three difficulty levels: an opponent that founds its own hamlets, guards its supply lines and sets ambushes.
  • Siege mode: hold your gord against wave after wave of raiders.
  • Multiplayer through Steam, including 2v2 team games with signals and supply runs to your ally.
  • A built-in map editor.

Old school look, modern simulation

Slavlands looks as if it was found on a CD from 1997 — on purpose. Hand-crafted pixel art, readable silhouettes, rough wooden interfaces and Slavic landscapes inspired by real places of southern Poland, from river valleys to the Tatra mountains. Beneath it runs a detailed modern simulation where supply, terrain, visibility, fire, weather and faith all shape the story of your gord.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Gród is designed, built and tested by a solo developer. Every rule, system and pixel of the game follows my own vision.

AI tools helped with parts of the production: the voice lines, the music and some store artwork were created with generative AI, then selected, edited and fitted into the game by me. The in-game pixel art is drawn by the game's own code, with no AI image generators.

Screenshots and GIFs show real gameplay. The game does not use generative AI while you play.
