Why Early Access?

“Unlucky is a party game, and party games are tuned by watching real groups play. The core game is finished and fully playable online today, but the best way to balance the items, the turn timer and the minigames is with real tables of 2 to 4 friends. Early Access lets us do that with players instead of guessing.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 3 to 6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version builds on what is here now. We plan to add a rematch option so a group can play again without creating a new room, Steam Achievements, more items and minigames, and balance changes based on what players tell us.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Unlucky is fully playable online for 2 to 4 players on Windows and macOS, in English and Arabic. The complete rule set is in: 4 HP, 40-second turns, eleven items, surprise minigames, Steam friend invites and voice chat. Not in yet: a rematch button (to play again, start a new room) and Steam Achievements. Expect balance changes and the occasional bug.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. The price will stay the same at full release, and everyone who buys during Early Access keeps the game and every update.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We follow the Steam discussions and bug reports closely and post patch notes with every update in Steam news. Player feedback decides which items get rebalanced, which minigames stay, and what we build next.”

About This Game

OK SO. THERE IS A TABLE.

On the table there are slippers. Shibshib. Flip-flops. Whatever you personally call the object your mother threw at you when you were eleven.

There are between 2 and 8 of them and they look EXACTLY the same. Some of them are explosive. You are told how many are explosive. You are never told which ones. That's it. That's the game. We worked on this for years.

HOW A TURN GOES

You pick up a slipper. Everyone can see which one you picked, which is honestly the worst part. Then you choose:

  • Throw it at somebody. Explosive costs them 1 HP. Harmless costs you your dignity. Either way your turn is over.

  • Throw it at yourself. If it's harmless you keep the turn and go again. If it isn't - well. Nobody made you do that.

  • Put it back down. Like a coward. We support cowards. The button is right there.

4 HP. 40 seconds a turn. Last one standing wins. Time out three times and you're simply gone, which is somehow more embarrassing than losing.

AND THEN SOO HAPPENS

Sometimes the entire table just STOPS and every player is yanked into a minigame. The floor falls out. A memory test. A run at the lights. Everyone who loses it loses 1 HP. There was no warning. There is never a warning.

FEATURES, ALLEGEDLY

  • Online multiplayer for 2 to 4 people who used to get along

  • Eleven items, each one ruining a different thing

  • A dog named Bluffy who is present at all times and helps with nothing

  • Bluff, read the room, count the slippers, throw it anyway

  • Server-authoritative, so no, he did not lag. He guessed better than you.
