What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“HitPsycho is an unfinished, actively evolving project.

Nothing is Final: Core systems like the karma tracker, investigation loop, and justification mechanics may be completely reworked, expanded, or removed.

Community-Driven: We are building this alongside our players, using your feedback to guide the game's growth though not every suggestion will make the cut.

Expect Rough Edges: You are playing the game exactly as it exists today, not a polished final release. If you want a flawless, finished experience, wait for the full release. If you want to help shape a volatile sandbox as it develops, Early Access is the place to be. ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Honestly, we don't know yet, and we'd rather say that than throw out a date we can't keep.

HitPsycho started as an idea rather than a production plan, so there isn't a fixed roadmap counting down to a 1.0 release. Development will be iterative, and the game will continue to change as systems are developed, tested, refined, or replaced.

Our rough estimate is at least 6–12 months in Early Access, and potentially longer. We'll provide updates as development progresses and revise that estimate if our plans change.

If you're planning to wait for the full release, that's completely fair. HitPsycho is genuinely early in development, and the Early Access version should be considered an evolving work in progress rather than a finished game.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Currently, the game operates more as a working idea with a functional core gameplay loop, while the surrounding content and systems are still under active development. The full release aims to expand on this foundation in the following ways:

More Cases and Targets: The Early Access build features a small pool of scenarios. The full version plans to introduce significantly more variety regarding who you are investigating, the situations around each case, and the reasons driving those investigations.

Expanded Gameplay Systems: Existing systems will be refined and expanded as development progresses. Additionally, mechanics that do not work well in practice may be altered or completely replaced.

More Content and Variety: The full game is planned to include a wider range of situations and interactions, which will give the core investigation loop much more depth and replayability.

A Note on Development Volatility

Because the game is still actively being built, the exact content may change. This breakdown represents the current development direction rather than a fixed, guaranteed list of final features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version contains the basic foundation of HitPsycho. You can move around the game world, interact with NPCs, and experience the core gameplay loop.

The game is still very early in development, so the amount of content and variety is currently limited. Many of the systems, cases, interactions, and other content planned for the full release are not yet available.

The current version should be considered a playable foundation that will be expanded and refined throughout Early Access.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually increase the price as HitPsycho receives additional content and features during Early Access.

The Early Access price will be lower than the expected price at full release. Players who purchase during Early Access will receive the game as it continues to develop, while the price may increase as the amount of content and overall scope grows.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be an important part of development during Early Access.

We'll use player feedback, reports, and discussions to identify problems, evaluate existing mechanics, and determine which parts of the game need improvement. Feedback may also influence future features and content.

Not every suggestion will be implemented, but we'll use the community's experiences with the game to help guide development and make improvements throughout Early Access.

About This Game

A game where you have a code, and you have your reasons. Every target deserves it you've made sure of that. Unguided narrative sim told entirely from the inside of a killer's own twisted justification.

Welcome to Somnus

Navigate, fog-drenched Somnus district. Completely as you go through a world of dark comedy. Pick it up. See what it does. Put it down.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generating base images and materials for certain environmental textures (such as doors and labels), which are then manually edited, dithered, and color-crushed to fit the game's low-poly PSX aesthetic.

Generating video clips, audio, and visual concepts for the television broadcasts (like the in-game cooking shows) that play on CRT monitors throughout the world.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

The game contains graphic depictions of violence and gore. The player takes the role of a killer, and gameplay includes killing characters and scenes depicting blood and violent injuries. These themes are presented as part of the game's horror content.
