Why Early Access?

“We are a small team, and player feedback is central to how we want to build this game. Early Access allows us to test the core loop with a wider audience and refine cryptid behavior, anomaly design, and pacing based on how people actually play. Feedback at this stage will directly inform the direction of development. We are committed to continuing work on the game through to a full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimate roughly 6–12 months. Development timelines can shift, and we may adjust this if feedback leads us to make substantial changes.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early access version will launch with limited scope in map, cryptids and their functionality and some missing additional features such as a dynamic bounty board etc. As well as contain some minor bugs and optimization issues, where as the full release will have more cryptids, expanded gameplay features and fully realized map and a sweep of bug fixes and optimization.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version supports up to four players and includes the complete core loop from start to finish. Players can encounter cryptids, photograph them, and save those photographs to a personal scrapbook, then use the extraction mechanics to end a run. A cosmetic progression system is also in place. The game is fully playable in its current scope, though some systems are still being balanced and players should expect bugs and performance issues consistent with a game in active development.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't plan to change the price after early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be gathering feedback through the Steam Community forums, our Discord server, and a set of public forms for bugs and suggestions. We read bug reports and suggestions directly, and we plan to post regular development updates on our progress. Player feedback will help inform our priorities, particularly regarding cryptid behavior and encounter design.”

About This Game

Folk-Tography is a 4 player Co-op game where you and your friends are a Cryptid Hunters on an expedition to Folk Valley to Photograph, Hunt Down, and Survive legendary Cryptids! Uncover strange Anomalies and Extract with your evidence.

In Depth Camera & Photo Rating System

Getting the perfect shot takes more than pointing your camera at a cryptid. Every photo is graded across three major factors:

  • Focus: Keep your subject in frame to fill the focus meter. Move too much or lose your subject, and the meter will drain, leaving you with a blurry photo.

  • Framing: Keep your subject centered in the frame for a better composition.

  • Fill: Get closer to your subject to make them occupy more of the photograph.

The better your photo, the higher your rating and the bigger your payout.

The valley is Unforgiving, and staying alive means keeping track of three vital resources: Health, Stamina, and Sanity.

Search abandoned campsites and supply caches for food and other resources or risk becoming another ghost in the valley, leaving your photos behind.

Sanity is where things get dangerous. Stray from the trails and the darkness will begin to consume you. Get too close to certain cryptids and your sanity can plummet. As it falls, reality itself begins to unravel with audio and visual hallucinations. Let it drop too far, and the darkness will start eating away at your health.

Stay near the light. Stick with your friends. Find a hot cup of coffee when you need it. And whatever you do, don't let your flashlight die.

Clear Anomalies. Call for Extraction.

Every expedition comes with a new set of paranormal anomalies to investigate. Before you can call for extraction, your team must locate and clear a certain number of them scattered throughout the valley.

But anomalies are short challenges that can put your team in some seriously dangerous situations.

Repair a malfunctioning generator. Investigate a crashed UFO. Each anomaly presents its own unique task, and some come with consequences if you get it wrong.

Split up to cover more ground and clear anomalies faster, or stick together for safety. The more you explore, the more chances you'll have to find cryptids, and stumble into something you weren't expecting.

Make your cryptid hunter your own with a wide range of Outfits, Accessories, Species, and Patterns. Mix and match hundreds of combinations to create a hunter that best represents you.

Every successful expedition pays out based on the evidence you bring home. The better your photos, the bigger your payday. Spend your hard earned currency back at the Hunter's Lodge to unlock New Cosmetics and show off your style on your next expedition.
