Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Regent is a systems-driven sandbox where the economy, settlements, building, combat, politics, and multiplayer are designed to interact with one another. That makes player feedback especially valuable: the interesting part isn't just whether each system works on its own, but what happens when thousands of different player decisions begin pushing those systems in unexpected directions.

Early Access gives me the opportunity to build Regent alongside its players, test the game across a much wider range of hardware and play styles, and find out which parts of the sandbox are the most fun, frustrating, surprising, or worth expanding.

I plan to use that feedback to improve usability, balance, performance, and priorities while staying true to Regent's core vision: a living medieval world where the player is free to find their own place in it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect Regent to remain in Early Access for approximately 2–3 years.

This is an estimate rather than a deadline. Regent is a large, systems-heavy project, and the length of Early Access may change depending on development, testing, community feedback, and the amount of iteration the game's interconnected systems require.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access is planned to establish Regent's complete core sandbox and then build outward from that foundation.

Over the course of Early Access, I plan to deepen and expand NPC and settlement simulation, production and trade, building and land ownership, combat and security, politics and institutions, warfare, character legacy, world content, and multiplayer.

I also plan to significantly expand content variety, improve UI and accessibility, optimize performance, continue visual and audio polish, and develop Regent's modding support.

The exact scope and order of these additions may change as development progresses. One of the reasons for using Early Access is to find out which systems benefit most from additional depth rather than committing years in advance to a rigid feature checklist.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Regent is currently in pre-alpha prototype development.

The foundation of the world is already taking shape, including seeded world generation with terrain, oceans, rivers, climate and resources, forests and ground foliage, large-scale world streaming with distant horizons, and generated settlements and road networks.

We are now building the player-facing sandbox on top of that foundation, including settlement interiors, embodied exploration, NPC life, building and ownership, persistence, economy, combat, and multiplayer.

The current prototype is intentionally limited in content and polish and is not representative of the scope or visual quality planned for the Early Access release.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to offer Regent at a lower price during the earlier stages of Early Access.

As the game grows substantially in systems, content, and polish, I may gradually increase the price, with the full release planned to be priced higher than the initial Early Access version.

Any planned price changes will be communicated in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Regent is being built in the open around focused community playtests.

Rather than waiting for occasional large tests, I plan to release builds that each ask a specific question: Are the generated worlds worth exploring? Do settlements feel alive? Is building satisfying? Does the core sandbox loop hold together? Does a shared world work well with other players?

Feedback through Steam, community discussions, bug reports, hardware and performance reports, and targeted surveys will help me identify problems and decide where development time has the greatest impact.

I also want the development process to be transparent. I plan to share what I amworking on, what I have learned from testing, what is changing, and why.

Community feedback will help shape how Regent develops, while the overall identity and design direction of the game will remain consistent.”

About This Game

Regent is an open-world medieval sandbox where you are not The Hero, not The Chosen One, and not The Center Of The World. You begin as just another person trying to survive.

Earn a living. Travel between settlements. Trade. Hunt. Build a home. Hire companions. Take dangerous work. Rob travelers. Protect them instead. Buy land, establish businesses, gather followers and, if ambition takes you far enough, step into the brutal world of politics and power.

YOUR STORY ISN'T WRITTEN YET

There is no predetermined campaign telling you who you are supposed to become. Regent gives you a world, a set of rules, and the freedom to carve your own path and make your own mistakes.

Seek opportunities to grow alongside others, or push ahead on your own. Write your own story and leave your mark on the world in your own way. Lead from the front or strategize from the backline. Build a trade empire, carve out a quiet life for yourself, or lose everything in a roadside ambush.

What happens next is up to you.

A WORLD THAT LIVES WITHOUT YOU

Towns need food. Workshops need materials. Traders need safe roads. Armies need supplies.

Goods are produced, transported, bought and consumed across a world where shortages and opportunities emerge naturally. Markets are local and information travels with people. Prices change when supplies run low or merchants discover somewhere more profitable to sell.

A road becoming dangerous can starve a settlement of vital goods. A poor harvest can send prices soaring. A new workshop can create demand for resources produced miles away.

You can exploit those opportunities, solve them, cause them, or decide they're someone else's problem.

BUILD SOMETHING WORTH DEFENDING

A patch of land can become a home. A home can become a workshop. A handful of buildings can become something much larger.

Construct places that serve real purposes within the world: homes, workshops, storage, businesses and productive holdings. Gather workers and resources, develop your property and gradually establish a foothold that matters beyond your own character.

As your responsibilities grow, delegate the mundane work and focus on the decisions you actually care about. Whether you want a quiet homestead or an economic base capable of supporting much greater ambitions is entirely up to you.

YOU ARE MORTAL. THE WORLD ISN'T.

Your death may be the end of a story, but the world lives on. The buildings you constructed remain. The wealth you created still exists. Settlements keep growing, struggling and trading.

If you leave behind a family or successor, your story can continue through them. Or begin again as someone completely unrelated and encounter the consequences of your previous life from the outside.

Regent is not about protecting one immortal protagonist. It is about leaving a mark on a world that will eventually outlive you.

PLAY ALONE, OR SHARE THE WORLD WITH OTHERS

Regent is being developed with singleplayer and multiplayer as equally valid ways to experience its world.

Play alone, with friends, or with complete strangers. Travel together, trade, build, cooperate and pursue shared ambitions, or clash over the same opportunities, land and resources.

Share your stories. Become rivals. Build something remarkable together.

Or simply live in the same world and see where your paths cross.
