About This Game

Outralism is a free rhythm game with a clean black-and-white look: notes fall, and you hit them on the beat. It starts as a blank canvas. No songs come with it, so everything you play comes from the community or from you.

Bring your own songs

  • Subscribe to song packs, skins and mods on the Steam Workshop, and they show up in the game.

  • Chart translators let the game play charts from other rhythm games. They're Lua mods too, so anyone can write one.

  • 1 to 18 keys, with your own layout for each.

Make your own

  • A full chart editor: notes and holds, tempo changes and ramps, events grouped by mod, built-in hitsounds and an instant playtest.

  • Build packs from the Create menu, give them a picture, and share them on the Workshop straight from the game.

Mod everything

  • Write Lua in the game's own editor, with autocomplete and the docs on hover. Press Test to play the song with your script.

  • Add sprites, text, shaders, particles, lights, physics, 3D models and videos, new note types, skins and events, and your own menus.

  • A modding wiki is built into the game, with an example for every function. Coming from projects like Psych Engine? Most of it will feel familiar.

Play together

  • Steam lobbies for up to 16 players, joined with a code or through your friends list.

  • Two players play side by side, and bigger lobbies get a live scoreboard.

  • Pick your strumline, watch the others after you leave a song, and compare player cards on the results.

  • If a song needs a pack someone is missing, the game offers it from the Workshop.

Make it yours

  • Your own colours and keybinds, plus a tap test that calibrates your offsets.

  • Keyboard, mouse and gamepad work in every menu.

  • Windows and Linux.

Outralism is loosely inspired by open-source projects like Psych Engine and Codename Engine, and by games like Intralism and Quaver. It was built from the ground up in Godot, and only loosely shares some of their naming conventions, so they're easier to pick up. It isn't affiliated with any of them.
