Why Early Access?

“Chess Kingdoms is ready to play. The Academy, AI opponents, tournaments, multiplayer, and progression system are all fully functional. I'm launching in Early Access because I'm a solo developer, and no matter how much you test alone, real players find things you never will. There will be bugs. I'd rather be upfront about that than pretend otherwise. What I can promise is that I'll be active, I'll fix things fast, and I'll use this period to add the features and content that matter most to the community. If the demand is there, I want to keep going and make this the most complete chess experience on Steam. How far this goes depends on you.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It depends on the demand, at least about a month to improve and streamline. However I want time to add more countries, expand the content, and respond to community feedback before calling it finished. Overall I'm expecting between 2 and 6 months.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version already includes all six training campaigns, ten AI opponents, tournaments, elimination mode, async multiplayer, daily puzzles, and game analysis. The full version will have less bugs, and improved UI and and UX, and overall more features, and more content. I'm also open to add more community requests.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable from start to finish. All six training campaigns are complete with 133 scenarios. All ten AI opponents are functional with distinct playstyles. Tournaments, elimination mode, async multiplayer via Steam, daily puzzles, puzzle rush, and Stockfish-powered game analysis are all working. The progression system with 100 player levels, XP, titles, and cosmetic unlocks is active. The country skins system is live for all 33 nations.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to gradually raise the price as I ship new content and features. If you buy in Early Access, you lock in the lower price and get everything that comes after as a free update. I think that's the right way to reward the people who support the game early.
”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'll be active in the Steam community hub, reading what players want and what isn't working. That feedback directly steers what I work on next.”
