What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are releasing Drift in Early Access to create a dynamic, evolving experience with the community.

At its core, Drift is a calm, procedural exploration game designed to help players relax, wander, and discover a dreamlike world at their own pace. While the experience's foundation is already fully playable and enjoyable, we believe the game's true potential will come from expanding and refining it over time.

Early Access allows us to:

Introduce new animals, environments, and discoveries
Enhance immersion through animation, weather systems, and sound design
Refine the overall “feel” of drifting based on player feedback
Continuously grow the world into a richer and more meaningful experience

Instead of viewing the game as a fixed product, we see Drift as a space that will grow, becoming richer, more immersive, and more personal with each update.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Drift to remain in Early Access for approximately 6–12 months.

This timeline allows us to expand the experience while carefully maintaining a consistent update schedule. Our goal is not to rush development, but to thoughtfully grow the game by adding new content, improving immersion, and refining the overall experience based on community feedback.

The duration may be adjusted depending on how the game evolves and how players engage with it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Drift will build on the current experience by boosting immersion, adding more variety, and improving the overall feeling of discovery.

Planned improvements consist of:
• Additional animals exhibiting unique behaviors and interactions
• Expanded procedural environments and new discoverable elements
• Enhanced weather systems with more dynamic rain and atmospheric effects
• Enhanced animation and environment details
• A more sophisticated and adaptable music system for a smoother, more immersive audio experience
• Additional achievements and long-term progression systems

The goal of the full release is not to fundamentally change the game but to enhance the existing experience into a richer, more complete, and more polished version of the world players start exploring in Early Access.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of The Great Drift is fully playable and offers a complete core experience focused on peaceful exploration and procedural discovery.

Players can:
• Float through a dreamlike world with gentle, soothing movement.t
• Explore procedurally generated environments that vary with each session.
• Explore animals, gardens, and atmospheric moments worldwide.
• Experience a vibrant day and night cycle with fog and environmental changes.
• Engage with early achievement systems linked to exploration and time spent in the world

While the foundation remains solid and enjoyable, the game will continue to evolve with new content, better animations, improved weather effects, and refined audio design.

We see the current version as a solid starting point that already provides the intended relaxing experience, with much more to come.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. We plan to gradually raise the price of Drift as new content and improvements are added during Early Access.

Players who join early will get the game at a lower price while also helping shape its development. As the experience grows and becomes more complete, the price will adjust to reflect the expanded content and the game's overall value.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be crucial in shaping Drift's future.

We plan to:
• Gather player feedback through Steam discussions and reviews.
• Watch how players explore and engage with the world
• Use feedback to improve movement, atmosphere, and overall feel
• Focus on updates that improve relaxation, discovery, and immersion

Since Drift focuses on feeling and experience rather than traditional progression, player input is especially important for understanding what makes the world most engaging and meaningful.

Our goal is to grow the game with the community while staying true to its core vision as a calm, immersive, and evolving space.
