What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Herd is a strategic card game built around an original musical gameplay system. Early Access allows us to balance the core game with real players, improve onboarding, validate the progression model, and expand the content step by step with community feedback.

We want Herd to be readable, fair and deep. Early Access is the best way to reach that quality level before the full launch.

We’ll use Early Access to focus on:

Expanding the roster (new characters, Abilities, and playstyles)

Improving solo content (Arcade/Campaign iterations)

Refining UI/UX and onboarding for clarity and speed

Regular balance updates based on community feedback

Building and polishing PvP multiplayer features

Join our Discord to share feedback, report issues, and help shape the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep Herd in Early Access until 2027.

This timeline may evolve depending on player feedback, balancing needs, content production and the quality level required for the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to include more characters, more decks, more cards, additional solo content, expanded progression, more cosmetics, improved onboarding, stronger post-match feedback, and more polished visual and audio presentation.

The core gameplay will remain focused on tactical card battles, musical expression, fair competition and the Mélodus.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will focus on the core Herd experience: tactical card battles, character-based decks, the Soundboard system, Mélodus conversion, progression, and the first layer of musical gameplay.

Some content, balancing, UI elements, solo features and cosmetics will still be in development.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Herd is planned as a free-to-play game during Early Access and after full launch.

Optional purchases may be introduced during Early Access, focused on cosmetics, expression and optional content unlocks, without creating pay-to-win advantages in PvP.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is central to Herd’s development.

We will use Steam Playtest, Steam discussions, Discord, surveys and playtest sessions to gather feedback on readability, onboarding, balance, deck diversity, progression, monetization and overall game feel.

Our goal is to build Herd with players, not behind closed doors.”

About This Game

Build your set. Win the Mélodus. Own the stage.

Herd is a cute-but-competitive tactical card battler set in a magical musical world.

Build your deck, and face your rival in fast strategic duels where every card you play becomes part of a live musical performance.

But victory is not about reducing health points.

In Herd, you win by converting the Mélodus — adorable divine creatures who react to music, magic and momentum. Read your opponent, control the stage, trigger powerful synergies, and turn the crowd before your rival does.

A card battler where music is gameplay

Cards are played across five musical categories:

  • Drums

  • Chords

  • Bass

  • Melody

  • Voices

Each card can change the music, trigger tactical effects, increase intensity, disrupt the opponent’s Soundboard, or convert Mélodus to your side.

The soundtrack evolves with the match, making each duel feel like a live battle between two performers.

Strategy you can see, hear and feel

Herd is designed to make card-game depth more readable.

Instead of hiding strategy behind layers of abstract rules, Herd uses music, visual feedback and creature movement to help players understand what is happening on the board.

Every match is about clear tactical decisions:

  • Build your Soundboard

  • Set up synergies

  • Control key musical lanes

  • Disrupt your rival’s performance

  • Time your conversion turns

  • Adapt your deck after each match

Meet the Mélodus

The Mélodus are cute magical creatures born from musical energy.

They are not just a score counter: they are the heart of the game. During each duel, they react to your performance, move across the stage, and decide who wins the battle.

Win them over — or watch your rival steal the show.

Fair free-to-play

Herd is free-to-play and built around fair competition.

Our goal is to create a modern digital card game without pay-to-win mechanics. Monetization focuses on expression, optional unlocks and cosmetics: characters, styles, visual effects, Mélodus skins and stage customization.

Win because you played better — not because you paid more.

Planned modes

  • Solo content to learn the game and discover the world

  • 1v1 PvP for competitive mastery

  • Deckbuilding and archetype experimentation

  • Cosmetic and musical customization

Current roadmap

Herd will first be available through Steam Playtest, leading up to Steam Next Fest in June 2026.

After Next Fest, the game is planned to enter Early Access as a free-to-play title.

The full launch is planned for 2027, with new characters, decks, modes, cosmetics and narrative content added throughout development.
