What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Hauntworks is a systems-driven game where the fun comes from chaotic interactions between your undertakers, your guests, and your rooms. This kind of design benefits from real players generating real chaos to find what works, what breaks, and what's funnier than expected.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 12 to 18 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to add more undertakers, guests, room types, resource combinations, and deeper mechanics around recurring investigations and the endgame. Balance, quality-of-life improvements, and new content will be ongoing throughout Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core gameplay loop is in and playable. You can manage a roster of employees, scare and entertain guests to harvest resources, run those resources through crafting chains, and build relationships with supernatural patrons. There's already a lot to discover and a lot that can go wrong in the best way. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to raise the price slightly when the game leaves Early Access to reflect the additional content in the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will directly shape how this game develops. I plan to be active on the Steam forums and Discord, reading bug reports and balance feedback, and sharing what I'm working on through regular development updates.”

About This Game

Hauntworks is a dark comedy management sim about running a supernatural haunted house in limbo. Your task is to satisfy five otherworldly patrons by harvesting screams, vomit, and laughter from the living. Build your escape, or build a life here.

DESIGN THE HOUSE

Orchestrate your operations room by room:

  • Strategically place traps

  • Assign the right undertaker for each job

  • Scare guests yourself with a variety of spells

HARVEST  EMOTIONS

Screams, vomit, laughter, and mind shards are raw materials. Compress them, combine them, refine them into increasingly absurd resources. The production chain is disgusting, ridiculous, and the entire point.

MANAGE MONSTERS

Each undertaker has their own personality, abilities, and needs. They're not the easiest to manage, but they get the job done. Embrace the chaos: hold a collapsing operation together while a dog eats someone's vomit in the hallway and a VIP just broke something expensive. Sometimes a guest ends up dead.

FEED THE PATRONS

Five supernatural entities keep you in limbo. Each wants something specific. Help them, and they'll help you plan your escape. Or maybe you'll end up liking them enough to stay.

SURVIVE THE BUREAU

Guests die, and that draws warranted, but unwanted, attention. The Bureau of Liminality sends inspectors to walk your halls, count your bodies, and above all, evaluate your efficiency. Maybe they discover the skeleton hidden in a closet, or maybe they discover the corpse just lying out in the hallway. How you handle them determines how much time you have left.
