A cozy first-person colony game. Land on a planet you bought on credit (yours, mostly), chop, fish and farm with your own hands, then grow a town of settlers with names, needs and quirks, from the first log to a space elevator. Alone or with up to 3 friends.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Seedling is my passion project, and I want to build the rest of it together with the people who play it. You can play the whole journey today, from the first log to the Space Elevator, and what you tell me shapes where it goes next: what's fun, what's confusing, what's missing.

I already know what I want to build next: caves and ruins underground, more landscapes, and lots of polish. What I can't know alone is what feels best to play, and that's what Early Access is for: a game tuned by real players instead of just me and my test bot.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“A few years, if all goes well. I'd rather take the time to get it right than rush a 1.0.

I'm a solo developer, so updates come at a steady, human pace rather than a studio's. If life ever makes me slow down, I'll say so openly in the news section. You'll never have to guess.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“- New things to discover: caves and ruins to explore underground, dynamic water with rivers, lakes, bridges and irrigation, and more landscapes to settle.
- Polish: fewer bugs, smoother controls, clearer menus, and balancing from your feedback.
- A better game loop: some systems will change as I learn what's most fun. Your feedback decides a lot of this.
- A better game loop: some systems will change as I learn what's most fun. Your feedback decides a lot of this.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Seedling is fully playable from start to finish:
- Six eras, from a lone landing to a city with trains, power and a Space Elevator. Getting there takes a long time: my automated test player needed about 80 hours.
- Settlers with names, needs and jobs, carriers who move your goods, farms, research, trade and decorations.
- Co-op with friends over Steam.

It is still early, though. Expect bugs, rough edges in the menus, and balancing that's sometimes off. Some parts of the game may change a lot.

Your saves keep working after updates: every change to the save format comes with a conversion and a test. If something does go wrong, send me the save and I'll do my best to rescue your colony.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price starts low and goes up step by step as big updates arrive. Each price rise is announced in advance, so nobody is surprised. Buying early is the cheapest way to get Seedling.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“- I read every post in the Steam discussions and on the Seedling Discord, and every bug report.
- Frequent updates, each with patch notes listing what changed, including what came from your suggestions.
- Ideas that fit the game's heart go on the plan: cozy, no combat, a town that's yours, settlers who are people.”

About This Game

Your own planet. Mostly.

You just bought a planet. On credit. Interstellar Savings & Loans would like their 2,500,000 credits back eventually, but for now it's all yours: the forests, the hills, the fish.

Seedling is a cozy first-person colony game. You start with an axe and an empty meadow, and you end with a town full of people, trains and a space elevator. Every street in it is one you planned.

Build it with your own hands

  • Chop trees (they grow back), mine stone and ore, go fishing, and grow vegetables in your own garden.

  • Place blueprints and hammer them up yourself, or leave the building to your settlers.

  • Shape the land: flatten hills, pave roads, fence your fields.

Settlers are people

Build homes, and settlers come to live in your town. Each one has a name, needs, skills that grow with practice, and little quirks: the Fish Lover is happiest near water, the Green Thumb makes plants grow faster. Every evening the town meets at the Founders' Hall.

Organize people, not conveyor belts

Carriers move your goods between stockpiles, workshops and building sites. Set priorities, paint stockpiles, open warehouses, lay train tracks, and sell your goods at the market to pay off that loan. When you're tired, lean back and watch your town go about its day.

Six eras

Research your way from the Pioneer era through Craft, Industry, Electricity and Modern times into the Future: power grids, vehicles, robots and, finally, a space elevator. Every era has its own landmark building, its own look and its own music.

Cozy at heart

No combat, no death, no game over. Problems slow you down, but they never take away what you built. Decorate your town, and enjoy the evening when the lights come on.

Better together

Play alone, or with up to 3 friends in co-op over Steam, all building the same town.

Made by one person

Seedling is made by a single developer and grows a little with every update. Come say hi on Discord and help decide what comes next.
