About This Game

Wear your own avatar

Bring an avatar file from your PC (.vrm, .fbx or a Unity package) and wear it in minutes. The game converts it for you, so you don't need Unity or Blender. Publish it to the Steam Workshop from inside the game and your friends see it too. Or pick from avatars the community has already shared, swap outfits and parts, and tone down hair and tail physics with a slider.

VR and desktop, same world

Play in a headset or play on your monitor. Everyone lands in the same space and can talk, move, and handle the same objects. Nobody gets a separate version of the game, and nobody needs to own a headset to hang out with friends who do.

Something to do, even when it's quiet

VR Realms is new and the community is still small, so the hub is often quiet. There is plenty to do on your own:

• Gun matches against up to nine bots, free-for-all or teams
  
• Boxing against boxer bots
  
• Pool and arcade machines in the hub
  
• Nixie's daily dares, which pay gold
  
• A jogging lap in the park

Meet the community every Saturday

The sure time to find people is the Saturday Hangout: every Saturday at 3 PM Pacific, with a Gold Rush and quiz rounds for gold.

A home of your own

Decorate your home with furniture, wallpaper, mirrors and pictures from the web, and let your friends help.

Worlds built by players

Explore levels designed and published by other players. Hangouts, game worlds, showcases, and things nobody has thought of yet. New ones appear as people publish them, so the list is never the same for long.

Build your own

The Creator Kit is a free Unreal Engine 5 plugin, with a desktop app that walks you through the setup step by step (find it in your Steam Library under Tools). Build a world or an avatar, hit publish, and it goes to the Steam Workshop where anyone can load it. Interactive props, game modes, and scoring zones are built in, so you don't need to write code to make something people can actually play.

Controls that fit how you play

Mouse and keyboard, or a gamepad. Controls are remappable from the settings menu, and VR runs on Quest via Link, Valve Index, HTC Vive, and other OpenXR headsets.

Free, and staying that way

VR Realms is free to play. There's an optional supporter subscription that helps cover the dedicated server bill and unlocks cosmetic and convenience extras. Nothing sold affects gameplay.

Where it's at

VR Realms is new and still growing. The hub is live, the Workshop is open, and the Saturday Hangout runs every week. If something breaks, there's a report tool in the game and a Discord where the person reading your bug report is the person fixing it.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

VR Realms is a social platform where players build and share their own worlds and avatars, and talk to each other in live voice and text chat.

Content you may encounter includes:

- Horror worlds with frightening imagery, jump scares, and psychological themes
- Stylized and realistic violence, including blood and depictions of weapons
- Strong language
- Social spaces that depict alcohol, such as bars
- Avatars wearing revealing outfits, and sexual innuendo or sex-related language between players

There is no nudity, no explicit sexual content, and no depiction of sexual acts.

Community submissions marked as mature are hidden by default and are only visible to players who install the free Mature Content DLC.

Conversation between players is not screened in advance, so you may encounter language or behavior from other people that we have not reviewed. Any world, avatar, or player can be reported from the in-game menu.
