What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early access allows us to engage with our community and gather valuable feedback during the development process. We believe that involving players early on will help us refine gameplay mechanics, enhance the overall experience, and ensure that we’re building a game that truly resonates with our audience. Their insights are crucial in helping us create a game that is not only fun but also aligns with what players want.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to develop Prologue: Go Wayback! in Early Access for about 1 year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to make the full version of Prologue: Go Wayback! a far deeper experience than it is now.
We plan for the simulated systems to be enhanced and connected.
We plan to add new ways of surviving and blend them seamlessly with the core experience.
We plan on weaving narrative threads into the world to add lore and mystery.
We plan on adding new and larger locations, biomes and hazards to explore.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Please check the “About This Game” section of the page.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't plan to increase the price after Prologue leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We deeply value our community and see them as an integral part of our development process. We plan to involve players through regular interactions on our Discord server, where we can hang out, share ideas, and gather feedback. We believe that building a game is a collaborative journey, and we’re committed to listening to our players. Together, we can create something special that reflects the desires and needs of our community and that we can all be proud of!”

About This Game

The first game in our path towards Project Artemis

Prologue: Go Wayback! is the first of three games that lay the foundation for our studio’s ultimate vision: Project Artemis. A platform for massive, living multiplayer sandboxes where millions of players can shape their own worlds and emergent stories.

Go Wayback! represents our ongoing research into machine-learning models that can empower our developers to rapidly generate realistic, large environments in Unreal Engine 5 for players to explore.

Explore a new world every time you play

In Prologue: Go Wayback! no two journeys are ever the same.

A brand new 64km2 world is generated on your PC every time you start the game. Our in-house machine-learning technology empowers our artists and designers to create a system that lets you generate billions of beautiful, natural worlds that are waiting to be explored.

Chart your own course through the rugged terrain toward the distant Weather Tower. How you get there, and whether you survive, is entirely up to you.

Embark on an adventure to overcome the wilderness

Dynamic weather and time of day shape your every decision.

Rain can soak your clothes and drench your fires. Thunderstorms can wreak havoc on the terrain. Blizzards bring snow and the danger of hypothermia.

Forage for edible food, seek sources of drinkable water, and chart your path from shelter to shelter.

Your choices, your world, your story

No guides. No markers telling you where to go next. Just your instincts, your tools, and your choices.

You will need to read your map, use your compass, keep an eye on the sky, and adapt to the terrain and the weather if you want to survive.

Will you stick to the valleys, searching for shelter? Or climb the ridges for a clear line to the Weather Tower? Will you brave the storm at night, or hunker down and wait it out?

Your story is what you make it.

Key Features

  • A new map every time you play

Explore vast, procedurally generated landscapes created through the fusion of our in-house machine-learning technology and human talent.

  • Survive against the elements

Manage your body temperature, thirst, and hunger while battling rain, wind, snow, and freezing temperatures. The weather can change at any moment.

  • Emergent player freedom

No quest markers, no scripted path. How you play and what you do is up to you.

  • Realistic navigation

Use a compass, a map, and your gut feeling. With no mini map to tell you where to go, every step is a test of your awareness and orientation.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

We are developing our own in-house machine-learning model which is trained on publicly available open-source data and vetted to prevent the use of any copyrighted material. This ML model is used to generate base terrain maps in Unreal Engine 5 which are then populated procedurally with custom assets such as the trees, rivers, rocks, and hills you explore. Our artists and designers use our ML model to allow us to generate 64km2 maps that look and feel natural and realistic. The game generates a new map offline on your system every time you play.
