STORY

Legends tell of a hidden village deep in the mountains surrounding a quiet rural town.

Driven by curiosity, Itsuki and his companions set out to investigate the old tale. It should have been nothing more than a short trip into the mountains—a fleeting moment of carefree adventure.

Instead...

“...Where are we?”

When Itsuki comes to, he and his companions find themselves in an unfamiliar place. Weathered houses stand shrouded in drifting mist, and the air hangs heavy with an eerie stillness, as though time has come to a halt. There is no sign of anyone else, yet traces of everyday life remain throughout the village.

They have stumbled upon Himeyoshi—a long-abandoned mountain village said to be the legendary hidden settlement.

None of them can remember how they arrived. Worse still, every attempt to leave ends the same way: the mist quietly leads them back.

Realizing they have been trapped by an unseen force, Itsuki and his companions resolve to survive until they can find a way to escape.

As the truth behind Himeyoshi slowly comes to light, Itsuki searches the abandoned village for a way to break free.

Will they escape the village’s mysterious influence...

Or become another part of its legend?

Is Himeyoshi a secluded paradise—

Or a prison?

CHARACTERS

Itsuki Yakumo

The protagonist of the story.

Optimistic and fiercely loyal, Itsuki is the kind of person who finds strength when he’s fighting for someone else’s sake. Kind to a fault, he’s also surprisingly gullible and easily won over by a bit of praise.

What he dislikes most is an awkward silence. Whenever the mood grows tense, he instinctively tries to lighten the atmosphere, which often leads others to see him as overly optimistic or lacking a sense of urgency.

His hobbies include fishing, camping, and all kinds of games, whether digital or tabletop. To him, the greatest luxury is enjoying a game surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Unable to accept sacrificing anyone, Itsuki is determined to find a way for everyone to escape the village together.

“Don’t worry. If we stick together, we’ll figure something out.”

Shuri Kagami

Misuzu Fuurin

Gifted with a brilliant mind and a keen eye for detail, Shuri has an almost detective-like ability to unravel mysteries from the smallest inconsistencies. Her calm demeanor and graceful appearance give the impression that she’s always composed and in control.

In reality, however, she’s driven by an insatiable curiosity for the unknown. Once something captures her interest, she’s quick to throw herself into it without hesitation—despite having remarkably poor instincts when it comes to danger and an uncanny knack for attracting bad luck.

Though she rarely speaks of it, Shuri is also a published author whose debut novel recently won a literary award. She claims she’s investigating the legend of Himeyoshi as research for its sequel, but once inside the village, it becomes clear she has another purpose entirely.

“I need to uncover the truth behind this village... I have to. And so do you, Itsuki.”

Ema A. Yakushiin

Yuka Kanematsu

The daughter of a distinguished family that has practiced medicine for generations. With a European grandfather, Ema is one-quarter European.

Easygoing and more than a little pampered, Ema has a habit of doing things at her own pace. Having known Itsuki since childhood, she casually appointed him as her personal attendant and regularly drags him along with whatever catches her fancy.

She absolutely loves being praised. Compliment her efforts, and she’ll happily throw herself into the task with renewed enthusiasm—a disarmingly earnest side that makes her impossible to dislike.

As the daughter of a family of medical professionals, Ema has a solid grasp of first aid and never goes anywhere without essentials like disinfectant, bandages, and other medical supplies.

The prospect of living in an abandoned village without baths or even a proper shower is almost more than she can bear, and at first she contributes very little. But once she discovers that even a little hard work earns everyone’s praise, she gradually begins to settle into their new reality.

“I’m only saying this because of the circumstances! I’ll put up with everything else if I have to—but could I at least have a proper bath?!”

Yurara Furube

Haruna Kirishima

Shy and painfully self-conscious, Yurara always seems a little nervous around other people. Though she has thoughts and opinions of her own, she struggles to speak up and often finds herself unable to say what she’s really thinking.

Despite her timid nature, Yurara is surprisingly resilient. While she lacks confidence in everyday situations, she possesses an unexpected strength of character that allows her to stay calm and think clearly in a crisis.

She first met Itsuki after he lent her a helping hand, and has secretly admired him ever since.

Having been raised by her grandmother, Yurara is knowledgeable about old superstitions, local legends, and traditional folklore. She also has a fondness for the occult, keeping up with everything from urban legends to the latest strange rumors.

“I-If there’s anything I can do to help... I-I’ll do whatever I can...!”

Manaka Yuzuriha

Nadeko Kurashita

With a gentle, comforting presence, Manaka is especially popular. Just as she appears, she’s calm, kind-hearted, and always thinking first about what will make everyone around her feel happy and at ease. To those around her, she’s like an older sister they can always rely on.

Beneath that nurturing demeanor, however, lies a surprisingly mischievous side. Manaka enjoys teasing those closest to her, occasionally making playfully ambiguous remarks just to fluster Itsuki. Of course, she’s careful to only tease people she knows will take it in good humor.

Her family has served the local shrine for generations, and Manaka herself works there as a shrine maiden. She has an extensive knowledge of classical literature and, while still learning, is capable of reading old manuscripts and historical records.

“No fighting, okay? If everyone can’t get along... I’d be ever so worried.”
