Warlords Battlecry: The Protectors of Etheria (TPE) is a standalone mod for Warlords Battlecry III and a spiritual continuation of the Warlords franchise. TPE is an ambitious project focused on delivering a deeper RPG experience alongside a streamlined and modernized RTS system.

Eternal Heroes

Heroes persist and grow stronger across battles, with progress permanently saved after each game.

Become a master strategist commanding armies from afar, or personally dominate the battlefield with overwhelming power. Sneak through the shadows as a master thief, hunt for legendary treasures, or use alchemy and engineering to empower your forces and machines.

Numerous Asymmetrical Factions

TPE features 16 races across more than 50 factions, each with unique buildings, armies, spells, mechanics, and playstyles. Every faction offers radically different strategies and gameplay experiences.

Raise fallen enemies into an unstoppable Undead legion, unleash bloodthirsty enraged Minotaurs upon the battlefield, or spread devastating Ghoul Plagues that slowly consume entire armies. No two battles ever play the same.

Among many other additions and improvements, TPE includes:

• Deep new RTS and RPG mechanics that add strategic and role-playing depth, including terrain influence, expanded unit roles, dialogue choices, psychological profiles, and multiple campaign endings

• Complete overhauls of outdated systems, including resources, combat stats, damage and armor types, heroes, retinues, conversions, and terrain mechanics

• Integration of lore from across the entire Warlords universe, including Warlords, Warlords II, Warlords III, Warlords Battlecry, and the Puzzle Quest series, alongside original TPE lore designed to expand the setting while respecting established canon

• Massive amounts of new content, including music, maps, units, heroes, items, quests, cinematics, and a story-driven branching campaign shaped by player choices and hero traits

• Fully reimagined versions of previous Warlords Battlecry campaigns, including:

  • Tears of Dawn (WBC1)

  • Conquest (WBC2)

  • The Fifth Horseman (WBC3)

• Improved graphics, audio, UI functionality, and overall presentation

• Reliable multiplayer support for up to 16 players

• High-resolution support up to 4K

• Expanded map editor capabilities with significantly greater control for creators

• Hundreds of bug fixes, ranging from notorious long-standing issues to minor inconsistencies, creating the most stable Warlords Battlecry experience ever made

• A complete modernization of the RTS/RPG formula that fulfills the original potential of Warlords Battlecry, one of the founding games of the real-time strategy RPG genre

Active since 2010 and still growing, TPE is a community-driven project. All players are considered beta testers and are encouraged to report bugs, share feedback, and suggest ideas through the TPE forums and Discord server. Community feedback plays a major role in shaping the game’s future.
