What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Virvius is an ambitious project that has been taken on since March 6th of 2021. It has really grasped the 90's retro boomer shooters like Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, which carries that ambient dark aesthetic nature of blowing up enemies/demons, getting ambushed and gunning down creatures with various sci-fi weaponry. Over the past two years developing this title as a solo developer, there's spiritual faith that this game has much untapped potential for the future.

With early access allows a door to open, to engage the community into this project, with their thoughts and ideas, what can be improved, what other games didn't have that this one can have. It's a real opportunity to bring back memories of gameplay we loved in the 90's. This is what is hoped for in the development of this game.

To explain what ambitions are set in place that can be accomplished is having a full campaign of episodes to explore with a large variety of mechanical monsters, creatures and bad-ass bosses to fight. Another idea is to bring back LAN multiplayer, PvP, deathmatch, fragging, gibbing and blowing each other to pieces with rockets.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It's is unsure how long this will be in early access, due to the fact that it's a one member team with limited time during the day. However, in the next year or two, we would be focusing in on the campaign section of the game. If just the campaign alone gets developed, the game would be comparable to a fully playable game with hours of game play and then we can move out of early access. This game has been worked on every day for the past three years and progress is being made gradually in-which the game is deliverable in a solid playable state.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access version of the game is planned to be limited to 10 levels (1 Episode), If there's high interest in more levels there's opportunity to expand to the next episode.

The full version of this game is completely planned out. The idea is to create a campaign containing 10 full levels per one episode with the total of 4 episodes. Each episode would have one mini boss halfway and a final boss to end the episode. We would like to see at least up to 20 different enemies/bosses together, which will bring a fresh hunt to each level.

Eventually if we make it thus far, after the campaign is solid, the idea is to move to a multiplayer section of the project, design some cool maps to fight/jump around in, different modes, online/local connection and get some remote play in there as well. Though, as the release date is uncertain, we want to try for the projects scope for campaign to be around for March of 2026, although this date maybe extended or reduced based on where we are with the project.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Virvius is currently in the beta phase which contains the starting 10 levels of the first episode and 7 enemies with estimated more than an hour or so of gameplay. The state of the game currently has a full suite of options, a command console, fully developed UI, all the developed weapons, power ups and items. As for the build itself is pretty solid, some animations of the enemies can be improved as well as the players movement. Note that some weapon/enemy models and UI features may be updated to improve the quality of the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of the early access version (Episode 1) of the game will remain the same during development.

If there's interest in more episodes further in development then each episode will have their own respective prices but will remain the same throughout early access.

After early access, the 4 episodes will combine together as one single price, if we move forward with more content afterward then the price will be adjusted slightly to match the added content.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback has been recorded over the past three years which has greatly improved the state of this game already, I want to expand this by using social media, touch base with Steams community access features, and supply a real time discord server that people can engage with. All feedback, ideas, thoughts and added content will be taken with critical integrity that will be best decided on popularity, planning and what best fits the architecture of the project.”
