What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This game can definitely benefit from the Steam communities feedback. Core features in the game and even additional content may be modified or added based on this feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I am hoping to finish the game within the year (2024), depends on the amount of feedback before then. I have a lot of feedback already prioritize and I am working through my planned work, it's really just whenever I finish everything I had planned which will be at least another 6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The plan is to polish the game. That means eliminating bugs and ironing out the behavior of existing features.

In addition to the core features listed on the store page there are some other features that have been planned and/or are being evaluated such as:
  • Resource collection
  • Oil rigging✅
  • Building platforms ✅
  • Base crafting ✅
  • Mobile boat building
  • Better submarine behavior (there is currently basic support)✅
  • More islands ✅
  • Weapon systems for vessels✅
  • Weapons for Nautikins ✅
  • Better mod support (Vessel parts, boat engines, etc.)
  • AI vessels ✅
  • More AI enemies ✅
  • AI creatures / nature besides fish ✅
  • Changes in part behavior relative to functionality (GPS, Wind direction)
  • Alternate source of energy (solar)
  • Steam achievements ✅
  • Steam workshop ✅
  • Steam cloud saves ✅
  • Full controller support ✅
  • Steam deck support
  • Linux support ✅

The order above does not indicate priority or chronological order. This may also not be up to date, keep an eye on updates for current features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core features listed on the store page are playable. The games version is currently 0.9.090 where 1.0 will indicate the finished game and increments in between will signify major and minor changes as bugs are fixed, content is added or changes are made.
You can check of the updates / news for a idea of how progress is being made.

The sandbox mode is playable with all parts unlocked and unlimited resources / shells (money). Some minor changes may be made to this mode such as disabling features that don't really matter in sandbox mode but are otherwise innocuous (for example: Island discovery, establishing trade routes for shipping)

The campaign is a work in progress. Currently you can establish trade routes with other locations and deliver goods for shells. There are other types of missions / adventures to be added to campaign in the long run like:
  • Treasure hunting ✅
  • Coast guard (Seek and destroy) ✅
  • Search and rescue ✅
  • Fishing

Obviously during early access there will be bugs. There should be nothing major that prevents you from playing the game. An example of something that is not currently polished / finished is the crew system. Right now when you deploy a boat it will automatically slot the first available crew member. Ultimately the finished version should allow you to configure the crew for your vessel prior to launch. Stuff like that for various features / parts of the game may not be obvious, but are no doubt desired or even unforeseen.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The plan is for the price to increase depending on the amount of feedback and new content added to the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I have received a lot of feedback already, much of which has already been put in the game. Any additional feedback is appreciated and I will prioritize it for the release.

Those who have contributed to my previous games have always been able to communicate with me on the Steam discussions which I will monitor closely. You may also send emails to info@revmatek.com

I will also be available on discord:

You can check out my channel on youtube for content updates.”

About This Game

Nautikins

The Nautikins have evolved from a species similar to dolphins to inherit the planet after untold eons. They swim in a vast ocean and explore unique islands. Hire crews of Nautikins to operate your boats, planes, helicopters, submarines, and more!

Building

There is an elaborate vessel building interface that allows you to build sea or air vessels in an open world drydock or runway respectively. Configure your boats, planes, jets, helicopters, submarines, airships, or anything in between with over 100 unique parts! With very few restrictions you can build almost anything you want. You can also deploy build areas anywhere in the map to build bases.

Physics and damage

This game packs some pretty crazy custom physics for everything from buoyancy to airfoils! Your boats and planes will float on the surface of the water and interact with it, they can even land on it. Tackle center of mass in your designs and learn about what designs work best for your goals. You can also just crash a jet into the water in a spectacular explosion! Tied in with the physics system is a deformation / damage system for all vessels. If your vessel is damaged you may need to repair it to prevent sinking or fires!

Activities

Once you have built a sea worthy vessel, there are various activities you can do like deliveries, rescues, treasure hunts, and more. There are also combat related activities which allow you to battle AI enemies.

Exploration

A massive open world / ocean map filled with islands awaits you! Be warned though! If you go to far out to sea (currently ~100km), the sea monsters may think you are lunch. This ocean comes with complete underwater environments around the islands covered in seaweed, fish, sharks and more!

Multiplayer

Multiplayer supports every feature that is supported in single player. You can build boats and deploy them and your friends will see them and be able to crew or captain them. Some functionality may be authorized only by the owner of the server depending on the effect.

AI

One of the more unique activities in the game is fighting pirates. Pirates will shoot at your vessels, operate frigates, tankers, jets, and more! They can be a serious threat. You can also configure your own bot crew members to operate vessel mounted weapons like deck cannons or missile launchers. They can even operate your boat for you!

Weather

Physical weather systems (Rain, Storms, Fog, Wind, etc.) move around the map and can be monitored for your vessels safety on a journey. The further away from the protection of the islands the more intense the affect the weather will have on your vessel and the ocean waves around you. Be prepared for severe weather such as "tidal" force waves and whirlpools.

Chat

The game includes a very basic low profile text based chat to allow for communication during multiplayer. It is intended primarily as a quick message relay and to aid players in connecting on Discord or Steam chat.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

During development, AI can be used to generate concept art that may end up in the game in some derivative form. An example of this would be the turtle, while the model itself is not AI generated, nor the textures, it contains graphical elements that were derived from AI generated content. This applies only to a small subset of content. The majority of content in the game does not involve AI generated content.
