What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We've all been bitten by dodgy developers in the past and have purchased unplayable games and games that have gone nowhere. I know how much it sucks and how disappointing it is so I won't let that happen with Territory.

The game is not being developed for the money, It is being developed because I (as a single person dev team) am a hardcore gamer at heart and I believe I can create a unique and memorable gaming experience with the help of a passionate community. If I do happen to make enough money out of sales to go into fulltime development then that will be a bonus.

Yes, the game is built using store assets from Unreal Marketplace and 3D model marketplaces but this is definitely not an asset flip. Purchasing kits and assets has allowed me to build/integrate the underlying game system mechanics quickly so I can focus more on the things that I believe are most important which are gameplay, atmosphere and immersion. Using good quality kits and assets saves a lot of time and allows indie developers to use tried and tested code and assets.

My goals for the project are to develop the game guided by feedback from the community in order to make it the best game it can possibly be. I am fully commited to seeing the project though the Early Access process and to full release within a reasonable timeframe.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“1 to 2 years. However, I won't declare any set timeframes so we can make it as good as it can be. That also depends on the level of community engagement. The game can be continuously expanded with new maps and more features.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I have a long list of short and long term additional features/goals which you can see on the Territory Game Development Trello board. (Hit the "Visit the website" link)

The initial Alpha releases will be focused on refining core single player survival gameplay mechanics, landscape and AI mechanics within the original map named "Origins".

Subsequent Alpha releases will include purpose built multiplayer maps and game modes i.e. Co-op, and PVP on dedicated servers.

Some other planned features for later alpha versions include but are not limited to:

  • More advanced enemy AI gameplay mechanics to make encounters and engagements more dynamic and random.
  • Additional hand built maps for single and multiplayer game modes.
  • Different map biome types. Tropical Island, Desert, Urban etc
  • Expanded lore without impacting the non-linear, sandbox and open world vibe of the game.
  • Advanced base defence mechanics to defend your "Territory" from NPC and PVP adversaries.
  • Possibility of some procedural map generation functionality for multiplayer game modes
  • Possibility of transitioning between maps of different biomes in single player mode

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game will be fully playable on a single player starting map.
The following gameplay mechanics will be available from Alpha 1.

  • Single Player
  • Survive
  • Explore
  • Loot
  • Trade (NPC Traders)
  • Gather Resources
  • Build
  • Defend your base against AI attackers
  • Fight AI Humans and Animals

Alpha releases will be thoroughly tested prior to release however there may be non game breaking bugs that will be ironed out as development progresses. Users should be prepared to lose all of thier progress when new versions and other patches are released.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will have a fixed price from release. It is unlikely it will change, but I reserve the right if anything changes.

The price will be fair for the current state of the game and comparable to similar titles in the genre.

All I want is to be compensated for the time and effort I put into the game. If it sells well and allows me to reduce my other work commitments and focus fulltime on development of the game then that will be beneficial all around.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There will be 100% transparancy and engagement for the direction of the game. Suggestions and (reasonable) criticisms will be welcome via the discussion forums which I will check and respond to frequently. All suggestions will be considered based on thier merits and if they are good ideas that a majority of the community agrees with, and as long as it fits with my core principles and vision for the game then there's a good chance they will happen. I will likely do polls and similar community engagement methods to gain a consensus on major changes.”
