What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Stories from the Outbreak is the biggest game that we've been making so far. It features complex turn based combat, multiple map events and internal game systems.

Most of our games thrived on community feedback and this one should not be an exception: we intend to observe how you interact and respond to the game and make adjustments accordingly.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We intend it to be in Early Access for at least three months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The plan is to have deeper intercharacter relationship systems and improved storytelling with individual character tasks and quests. There are going to be more maps, events, characters in the final version of the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The early access version has a shorter scenario involving the start of the zombie apocalypse. The game has 11 characters, 15+ enemies, 3 maps. The runs are difficult and you won't always end up reaching your goal due to permadeath, but one run should take roughly 1.5 hours to complete.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price is going to increase as the game gets new features. This is going to be announced in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We regularly monitor the forums and our discord channel. We intend to gather community feedback and do our best at incorporating suggestions into the final version of the game, like we did with our previous games.”

About This Game

The year is 2020. The new disease have been sweeping through the world for some weeks. Zombies rise from the dead and attack humans. You wake up in your apartment in the city of Riga and turn the radio on. The order has completely collapsed and the streets are not safe. The police and the army will not protect you. There is one last ferry heading out to Iceland from the western shore. You can only rely on yourself now.

Stories from the Outbreak is a turn-based zombie roguelike RPG. Lead a group of survivors from the doomed city of Riga towards the ferry sailing across the North Sea. Scavenge for supplies, fight the zombies, decide the fate of your crew. What are you willing to sacrifice to survive the zombie plague?

Planned Features

  • Form a team of survivors, hoping to escape this hell. Decide the fates of your team members as you go
  • Characters talk between themselves, showing polarization in views. Not every team is going to reach the ferry, but their stories matter. Will different views prevent them from reaching the goals?
  • Escape the dying world: traverse the area maps in search of shelter and supplies
  • Fight zombies when necessary: there are 15+ different enemy types in the game

Stories from the outbreak is aiming to be a story generator first and foremost. Not all of the people are going to survive. Not every team is going to make it. This is how it is intended to be.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Despite the brighter style, the game features zombies with mutilated body parts. The combat is cartoonish looking, but some blood is to be expected. The written descriptions can feature death and other heavy topics.
