What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Supplice has been in on-and-off development for about 14 years. In this time it developed from an ambitious Doom megawad into the idea of a stand-alone game that would not only be a total conversion mod, but would firmly stand on its own feet. But at its core, Supplice is the fruit of the passionate Doom modding community, and as such it has community-driven development written in its DNA.

Many of the 30 core maps and a number of additional secret levels have been scrapped and re-done, re-imagined, or revisited with new visuals many times as the concept for Supplice, its aesthetics, and the GZDoom tech itself evolved over the years. What's left is mostly the final polish and playtest pass over its vast content. As Supplice begins to roll out to the players, Mekworx hopes to include them in the process, staying true to id Software's ideas of involving the users not only as players, but co-creators of the game world.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“After the initial Early Access release limited to the 1st episode, the plan for the introduction of the following 5 episodes s to keep a tight schedule with a new batch of content - a full new episode - to launch every few months, leading to the release of the 6th and final episode and the full launch of the game. Our hopes are to bring you the full Supplice experience by the end of 2024, but we're not sacrificing quality to meet any dedlines - including those self-imposed. We will - however, make sure to communicate our progress and immediate release plans to you as often as we can.

Transparency Disclaimer: This section previously stated that we aim to deliver new episodes every 2-3 months and that we're aiming for Q2 2024 with the full release. We were overly optimistic, and this had to be revised.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game's planned scope is 6 episodes, 5 maps each with some additional secret bonus levels which number won't be disclosed. The Early Access version is already feature-complete in terms of game's mechanics, but the ways in which the game delivers its story is limited and will be expanded in full release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Initial Early Access release includes the entire 1st episode of the game - that is 5 quite extensive maps with the last one ending in a boss fight. Not all weapons available in the game are utilized in those 5 initial maps, and the selection of foes is limited.

On the first playthrough, the 1st episode of Supplice takes from 2,5 - 4,5 hours to beat on average, depending on the player's approach and selected difficulty level.

True to its Doom-modding roots, Supplice offers user-generated content support from day-1 of Early Access, and there are some Supplice fan-made maps already available.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the initial Early Access price acts as an incentive for the players to get the game and get involved sooner, and it reflects the extent of content that will be available in the Day-1 Early Access version of the game.

As Mekworx progresses towards the full release, the game's price will go up, but not beyond $20.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Supplice has gained many followers and supporters over the years. Now that it's nearly complete and Mekworx starts to roll out the content, they would love to stay in the feedback loop with their community giving them a chance to be involved in this final stretch of development.

Following the initial EA release, each next episode will be first released to a limited number of the most active Supplice Discord users, so they can provide feedback, as Mekworx gives the content some final polish.”

About This Game

Supplice is everything that you would ever want from a ‘90s-stylized shooter: fast-paced action with big guns and even bigger enemies, wrapped in the most stylish pixel art in this part of the Universe. In other words, if the original DOOM had a hot sister, Supplice would be her.

The story of Supplice will bring you to the far corners of the Universe as humanity has outgrown its cradle. As a part of a terraforming team, it was your job to find and prepare new worlds for colonization. While unleashing bio-mechanical horrors was not on your terraforming to-do list, saving the world will now have to be in your resume.

Every encounter with the mecha-mutant fiends will be a swift and brutal affair. Luckily, you’re an engineer and you’ll have a lot of tools to solve such ‘practical problems’, from industrial drills and flamethrowers to conventional firearms and experimental weaponry.

And if that is not enough, there are always alternative modes. Need someone to cover your back? Change your minigun into a stationary sentry gun! Need some breathing room? Expel flammable gas from your flamethrower and set it aflame for a toasty, enemy-free space!

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:
