About This Game

Prepare for the ultimate horror multiplayer experience:

Horror Royale is an online and local multiplayer co-op/PvP survival horror game. Communicate with your friends using proximity chat (but try not to be so loud that the monsters can hear) and use items and your environment to avoid the monsters and survive.

Mods:

Discover player-created monsters, human skins and maps on the Steam Workshop. Installing mods is easy; just press subscribe on the mod you want and it will be available to play the next time you launch Horror Royale.

Multiplayer:

Horror Royale includes the ability to play local split screen with up to 4 players and also the ability to play online with an almost unlimited number of players (High numbers of players may affect game performance depending on your PC and network). Private matches are available to play with friends as well as hosting your own server that players around the world can find by using the server browser or through quick match.

Proximity Chat:

Use in-game voice chat to talk to other players, you’ll be able to hear their voice from the direction that it’s coming from and it’ll be quieter the further away that they are. Hear your friend die in the next room as their voice cuts off mid scream or not know that your friend is dead at all because they were on the other side of the map when they died. Be careful; the monsters can hear your voice too, a wrongly timed sneeze might just get you killed.

VR Support:

VR is supported but not required to play Horror Royale. You can even play in VR while playing with friends who are not in VR. While in VR, you can play with motion controllers or just a controller or keyboard and mouse. If you are playing with motion controllers, your in-game hands will follow the position of your motion controllers, you will need to reach down with your hand to pick items up and use the momentum of your hand to throw items.

Game Modes:

A wide variety of game modes are included that drastically change how you play the game, for example, some game modes require you to work together with other players and other game modes force players to go up against each other. These game modes are listed below:

Plunderer

Collect loot found around the map until you reach the point limit.

Oddball

Keep a hold of the Oddball to gain points until you reach the point limit.

Tag

One player will spawn as the tagger, their goal is to tag another human in order to pass on the tag. The monster can only see the humans that are tagged. Survive until you are the last human left.

Survive The Night

Survive until 6AM.

PvP

Survive until you are the last human left.

Objectives

Collect keycards, turn on the power and open the door to escape.

Maps:

Horror Royale currently includes 10 maps which are listed below:

  • House

  • Abode

  • Double Story

  • Tower

  • Space Station

  • Abandoned

  • Forest

  • Level 426

  • Dwelling

  • Community

Fire:

Fire can randomly spawn in the map, watch as it spreads through buildings, blocking entire hallways and sometimes trapping players in rooms until they burn alive.

Up Close and Personal Mode:

This game modifier can be enabled to make monsters not make a sound, in order for this to be balanced, the monsters will also be slower than players when this mode is enabled. You’ll have to keep your head on a swivel as monsters can easily sneak up on you and jumpscare you.

Blackout:

When Blackout is enabled, at the start of the match, all of the lights in the level will break and the environment will be pitch black, your flashlight will now be the only thing allowing you to see your surroundings. This makes the game even scarier and when paired with the Up Close and Personal game modifier, jumpscares are bound to happen.

Monster Types:

There are multiple different monster types in the game that change how each match plays out. There are normal monsters that will just move around the map, searching for you and trying to kill you like:

The Clown

The Dummy

The Shadow

The monsters with special abilities include:

The Mannequin

This monster will leave behind still copies of itself wherever it goes. Freak out as you try to determine if a mannequin is the real monster, not being able to find out until eventually one starts moving.

The Imposter

The Imposter will take the form of a human, possibly even taking the form of another player to try to fool you. Second guess yourself every time you see another human, not knowing if it’s secretly a monster until it’s too late.

The Teleporter

This monster can teleport around the level, be careful when exploring the map, you never know when you’ll see a still figure in the corner of the room, just waiting for you to stumble on through.

The Ghost

The Ghost can phase through any wall in the level. You may need to change how you hide, the Ghost could pass through the wall right next to you at any moment.

The Blinker

This monster blinks from being visible to invisible just like a lightbulb flickering. Keep an eye out for this monster, blink and you might miss it.

Human AI:

If you don’t have any friends you can play with, you can play with Human AI instead. The Human AI will hide and run away from the monster, they will also react to you and change how they play based on what game mode it is.

Items:

Find items that randomly spawn in throughout the map which can be used to distract and deter monsters or can be used to hinder other players' ability to survive.

Molotov

Throwing a molotov will cause a fire where the molotov lands, watch as this fire spreads through the room, trapping players or preventing players from getting to something they need like an escape door or the oddball.

Flare

Upon seeing a flare, the monster will run directly to its location and investigate it, you can use this to your advantage by either using it as a distraction or using it to make the monster run towards another player. Flares are also useful for seeing in the dark, they will light up a whole room.

Flashbang

Flashbangs can be used to evade monsters and annoy other players, throwing a flashbang at a monster will cause them to not be able to see anything for a moment, while throwing a flashbang at a player will make their entire screen white for a short period.

Stun Grenade

Stun grenades are just like flashbangs except, instead of being blinded, the monster or player will be stunned in place when they get a stun grenade thrown at them.

Noisemaker

Throwing a noisemaker makes a loud alarm sound and will draw the monster right to it, no matter where they are on the map. This can be used as a distraction while you need to do something else like turn on the power, or it can be thrown at another player to try to get them killed.

Smoke Grenade

When thrown, smoke grenades will create a large area of smoke that you can use to conceal yourself from the monster or to hide yourself from other players.
