Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“2-4 weeks or so. The trigger for the full release will be the main campaigns being finished and player boards and campaigns functioning. Then the game will be feature complete.

After the full release the game will continue to receive updates.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to add and finalize campaigns, as well as the campaign editor (currently there is a board editor only), and online versus mode, on top of quality of life features and polish.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build of the game has custom mode where you can generate endless variations of boards, local versus mode (hotseat), and the editor which allows you to generate and paint boards, save them and share them through shortcodes.

There is also an account that requires no registration (works through your Steam account) where you can connect your chess.com profile.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will stay the same and all future updates will be free. No DLC!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I want to develop features the community will like best, which involves things like online play, and features around creating and sharing boards as well as creation community campaigns, plus possibly new options and modes.

About This Game

Chesscape Room is a chess variant where you race to escape through a door with your king while your opponent hunts you down. Outrun and outsmart opponents trying to trap you across irregular boards, holes, and chokepoints.

In Chesscape Room, the King is not just a piece to defend. It is your runner. You win by reaching a door with your King while your opponent tries to cut you off and hunt you down. Instead of memorizing openings, you will be reading space and timing: when to race, when to block, when to trade, and when a single tempo decides everything.

Play through handcrafted official campaigns and standalone puzzles built to teach specific ideas and challenge your skill. You will learn how to race versus blockade, how to force an opponent onto a bad route, how to recognize door traps and decoys, and how to keep your King safe while still making progress toward escape.

When you want pure competition, play how chess is meant to be played: against humans. Chesscape Room supports local versus for tense couch matches, online multiplayer, and ranked play with ratings so you can track improvement over time and measure how well your escape and blocking instincts hold up.

Chesscape Room comes with an editor that lets you generate boards in seconds and craft boards in minutes. Place holes and doors, set pieces and positions, test instantly, then publish single boards as puzzles or bundle them into a full campaign for others to play.

If you like making puzzles, it becomes a workshop where you can build clean, readable challenges using the familiar language of chess.
